I was at his New Years Eve Party in Chicago back in 2000...or maybe it was '99....it's been awhile. Anyway, he walked right past my table and I was seated on a bar stool that put my elevation close to my standing height of 5'10". The first thing that floored me was how short he was...as in glaringly short. After the bar cleared out I saw him on the street walking near a few other people of average height. Again, I couldn't believe how much smaller he was than everyone else near him that appeared to be of average height. Maybe he forgot his elevator shoes? I don't know. But I'd put him at 5'3" or maybe 5'4" at best. I notice that the site only allows a choice of 5'7 or taller. That's rigged for reasons I don't understand. Great talent but very small individual in stature. Again, 5'3" would be my estimate.

@Mat In a reasonable world you'd be right about how guys deserve mockery for being insecure and exagerating height, but in reality you don't get any credit for being a celebrity who's honest about their height and if you're under 5'9 you get branded as a "short actor" and all the mockery that goes with it. There's something magical about that 5'9 number for some reason so I can see why a lot of 5'7-5'8 actors claim to be that height

@Dan, Yes, I remember that episode. Piven's character describes Cruise as being "like 5'4". In reality, I think Cruise would ever so slightly edge Piven out.

Editor Rob I think this is a case of a photographer being quite close to the subjects and using a wide angle lense.. and maybe Piven is thinking the shot will 'never' include his toes, but be more akin to a waist up shot. I guess height was definitely on his mind there and he never thought his feet would be seen and he'd be rumbled...

The girls who say so claim 5'6 but barely touch a solid 5'3 and a few male friends of mine in 5'6.75 range claim 5'9. The 5'2 guys claim 5'6 and the 5'5 guys claim approx my height and i am taller than a majority of them 5'11 guys claim 6'1. The only honest ones are the girls above 5'9 who often downgrade themselves and the guys above 6'1 actually. I feel like an idiot being honest and then i am called short and 5'5-5'6 guys are thought of as average. People should really buy an aerosol bottle and tape and measure themselves before commenting. You know, folks throw out about how so-and-so is one of the vainest guys in the industry, but I truly believe that in the case of Piven. Everything I've heard negatively about this guy is obsession with his height. Tips toes, lifts, the whole nine. I wish he'd just chill out and enjoy himself. When you're making a living as an actor, that alone should satisfy a lot of your insecurities.

Jeremy is a legit 5'9 guy. He might even be 5'10 like he claims. I know that the only thing that's fake is his hair. I've watched the entourage episodes numerous times.. w/out lifts, he wouldn't be much taller than connolly.. and you can tell that connolly doesn't wear lifts. yeah, he might easily appear 5'9 with lifts, i know i do with timberlands and insoles.

I know for a fact that Jeremy Piven is NOT 5'9". I'm from Chicago and I ran into him during a filming of a short-lived US series entiteled "Cupid". Jeremy played a cupid hunting for game... dumb premise. Anyhow, I was trying to cross an intersection and Jeremy was filming a scene and his goons pushed him past me and Jeremy had visible lifts in his shoes (and they were comical). His heels were huge. I'm 5'9" and despite said lifts, I was able to look down on the top of his shiny scalp. By the way, he had lots of that tinted scalp shellac on; the stuff that's supposed to hide baldness. My brother and sister-in-law were with me while this all transpired, and we all commented on how odd the little guy was. He was all sheepish and weird, and he seemed just plain goofy with the scalp paint and elevated shoes and all. My guess is that Jeremy Piven is about 5'6" or so, because I'm no giant and I felt like he was a lillaputian next to me and I'm only 5'9".

How do you know Hoffman isn't wearing lifts or anything in that picture? Just seeing somebody in a store isn't an accurate measure for telling somebody's height. Depending on build, frame, how long somebody's legs are in proportion to their body, their height can look two or three inches more or less than it really is. He looks "short" in the sense that he's under average, but jeez, he looks nowhere near 5'4 or 5'5. That's ridiculous. I'm about 5'8.5, and sometimes I wonder if I were a celebrity what ridiculous height you people would be giving me. "No, I saw him at footlocker, 5'8 is way too generous, he's 5'5, 5'6 tops".
