Personal Information We Collect and Usage

Access Logs:
The Web Server stores logs of each request, in the form of an IP address, URL/file, User Agent and timestamp. This is necessary for diagnostic, management and site improvement purposes. These logs are purged from the server on a Daily basis.

Unauthorised Access Logs:
The Web Server stores logs of any attempts to access restricted services. This includes IP address, a timestamp and type of attempted intrusion. Under the Computer Misuse act, these type of attempts are illegal, and as such, logs may be used as evidence in a court of law.

Visitor Comments and Votes
The Web server stores data supplied by visitors who submit public comments or supply a height guess.

From January 2018, a visitor must include a Username and Email address to be able to comment or vote.

This information is used to identify commenters and prevent abuse of the website, by storing a Username, Email and IP address in our database. Comments are stored with a submission date, username and IP address.

When supplying votes, these are stored as an aggregate (average vote). No permanent record of your guesses are stored, only an indication of whether you have already submitted a vote, in order to discount duplicates.

Email addresses are never published. We only display the Comment, date of submission and the Username.

If you contact us by email, a record of our correspondence will be kept.

How long do we keep Personal Information

Username, email (encrypted) and comment data are stored in our database for as long as we have reason to keep it. In order to continue displaying visitor comments as a necessary function of the website, we retain this information in our server database for a minimum of 5 years. Off-site backups of the database are performed regularly and stored securely using 128-bit encryption. Rolling backups are kept for 3 weeks.

How We Secure Personal Information

We are committed to making sure information is secure and have put in place suitable electronic and access procedures to safeguard and secure information collected. Off-site database Backups are stored in a secure encrypted fashion. Traffic sent between the website and your browser is encrypted and delivered using the HTTPS secure transfer protocol.

Rob Paul is the only authorised person who accesses the server and it's database files. The website is hosted on a server, provided through Knownhost, and is located in a Secure data center in Texas, USA. Knownhost help manage and monitor the server, but don't access any personal data stored on it. Transferring data is done with care and consideration of privacy, by using Secure transmission and encryption protocols.
