6ft1-2 peak

Obviously he'd have lost height later on but peak was no less than 6ft1

Whatever his true height, Akins always played big men. If voices had heights, his would have been about six foot five.
In a lot of his movies, he gets beaten in a fistfight by the hero. So, tough as barbed wire boots, but could not outfight a handsome man.

Rob, could 186-187cm be closer?
Editor Rob
would need to have another look to see about that.

I always thought he looked about 6'2'' in his movies.

Could pass for 6ft2

Well, I was watching Rio Bravo last night and in all fairness, I love the Duke but he was wearing two inch heals and Akins 1 and they are aproximitely the same height in the movie, depending on the scene. I am talking about when Wayne and Nelson were walking him out to swap him for Martin. I am guessing they were both probably about 6', maybe 6'1" but who really cares, they were awesome, all of them!

No way was Claude Akins 6'1" or even 6 feet! Lorne Greene towered over him by at least 2 inches in the episode Desert Justice on Bonanza. Lorne Greene himself has been listed by some sources as being no more than 5'11" barefoot! That means Akins was probably around 5'10".

I thought Mr Akins was taller, 6'2"-6'3" range.... thinking about The Caine Mutiny he seemed close to Lee Marvin's height then later in Tentacles he was taller than John Huston, though Huston was 70 at that time... his burly frame may cheat him, but I reckon he was 6'2" and some change, 188cm perhaps...

agree with AL below.
I believe his stated height is correct... and many stars he filmed with (Wayne, Scott, etc) may have been a tad shorter than their supposed heights at that point in their careers. Akins had a great voice and made an excellent 'heavy'.

He seems much the same height as John Wayne in Rio Bravo

6'1 seems about right . saw him Gunsmoke a few times never was super towered by Arness but was taller than 5'11ish Ken Curtis. he could be 6'0.5 but i doubt any lower...

Claude always seemed to be about 6'1.5" in his busy work in movies and TV in the 1960's and 70's. Mostly playing tough characters, as in his roles on "Gunsmoke", and later as the veteran trucker in "Movin' On", Claude never disappointed his fans.

Another one of my favorite actors! Had to have been 6'1" at least.

Watch Claude Akins in 'Falling From Grace', his scenes with Mellencamp(5-7) it's pretty obvious Claude was def. about 6-0" at that late age...

6'1" Akin's had more than two inches on Dino. Try three! In Rio Bravo just about the entire cast was taller than Dean! 5'11" Walter Brennan was at least an inch taller. 5'11" Ricky Nelson was an inch taller. Wayne was a LOT taller! In some shots, Dean came up to Wayne's mouth level! 6'1" Ward Bond was three inches taller. 6'3" John Russell was five inches taller. Dean looked like a shrimp. Only 5'4" Gonzalez Gonzalez was shorter! But then we msut not forget that Dean was no more than 5'10" and in that film for some unkown reason he left his lifts at home.

One of my favorite character actors, usually played a tough guy. 6'1" and probably 210 pounds at his peak. In THE DEFIANT ONES he is 1" shorter than 6'2" Chaney Jr. and about 2" shorter than Sydney Portier (sp?). In Rio Bravo he is about 2.5" shorter than John Wayne & had at least 2" on Dean Martin. Had a deep voice & thick, black, curly hair. He appeared in numerous TV series from Bonanza, to Gunsmoke, to The Twilight Zone.

You're looking more and more like a complete fool. And one who despises Wayne for his politics. I met guys like you all day long working in the biz. Most were uninformed, many were fools and just about all would run and hide if they heard a gunshot.
