@ Tall In The Saddle and Rob - I saw a brief notice on my phone, otherwise I wouldn't have known either.
Quantum Leap is one show I'm not familiar with, but I saw him in The Langoliers, Blue Velvet and others. In the former of the films I mentioned, his 5ft7 looked short next to David Morse, but he was short with a big brain and an imagination to match - as a sci-fi writer. 🕯️

@Sandy
Thanks for the notice, I didn’t hear of this.
Quantum Leap (I have the box set) was a great series. The chemistry between Scott Bakula and Stockwell was perfect.
As a child, Stockwell even worked with Errol Flynn. He recounted the experience, noting that Errol didn’t spare any details of what he got up to offset. Dean said Errol treated him like an adult and Stockwell really appreciated that.

I'm so sad that the acting world has had to say goodbye to one of its finest sons, Dean Stockwell.
Dean leaves behind two children, a son called Austin and a daughter, Sophia. Love and prayers to all those who mourn him and were lucky enough to know and adore Dean. He was 85.
5ft7, peak. 💐🎬
RIP Dean Stockwell 🕯️ XXX

I think sometimes Dean could pass for a bit over 5ft 7, he held up well at times on Quantum Leap and that was a great show too. RIP Dean.

Dean Stockwell is a few inches shorter than his character Admiral Al Calavicci on Quantum Leap. In episode “The Leap Back”, the supercomputer Ziggy describes Al as being “exactly 175.26cm tall” which is 5’9” on the dot.

I didn't mention that 'the Langoliers' is based on a Stephen King novel. It is sci-fi at its scientific best!

Yes, 5ft7 seems about right. When you see him in 'the Langoliers', you can compare him to the mega-tall David Morse! It's not terribly flattering! In this long film, sometimes shown in two parts, he's the brains of the group! I like the film as each person has a purpose, a quality which comes in useful as they try to suss out how they remained while everyone else on their flight with 'American Pride' has vanished! 🕜 ✈ 🕜

He is listed as 5'6" and he looked that height in a 1962 episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour I saw yesterday.

Looked More Like 5'5.5" In Everything I've Seen Him In.

On this article two different questionaires compiled by Stockwell are put next to each other :
The first one is from the 50's and he gives his height as 5'7 there . The second one is from the 70's ( when he had already become a star ) and by then he had apparently started to claim 5'10 .
5'7 must be it .
guyfrommars said on 26/Jan/11
He never looked taller than 5'7" next to 6' Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap. Closer to 5'6" barefoot.
leonari said on 8/Jan/07
never was 5'9". No matter what movie he appeared taller. Max 5'6.5"...I would go half inch below.
Mr.Venable said on 7/Jan/07
Whooops ! Sorry , the phrase was incomplete . I meant he was clearly taller than 5'7.5 Katharine Hepburn
Mr.Venable said on 7/Jan/07
No way Dean Stockwell was that short in the 60' . In "Long Journey Into Night" he was clearly taller than 5'7.5 and close to Jason Robard's height . I believe he was about 5'9.

In an episode of "Quantum leap" is said his character, Al Calavicci, is 5ft 9 inches tall, but probably you're right, he's 169cm
