American actor best remembered for roles in films such as The Land That Time Forgot, At the Earth's Core, Shenandoah and TV series Checkmate. In 1995, some obits (i.e. Philly inquirer) described him 6ft 1.

Around 185cm, he could have been a weak 6’1”.

I had the pleasure of comparing Doug with the lovely Caroline Munro when I turned on my TV this morning in At The Earth’s Core and he looked very tall next to her peak height of around 5ft7.5. Doug was in love with Dia, Caroline’s character, who was nice to everyone, rather the same as she is in real life.
I’d have even believed taller for Doug.
I noticed at the top of Doug’s page that he’s no longer with us, which is very sad indeed. While checking out his dates, I discovered that the actor didn’t even make it to the age of 60. He died of lung cancer. 🥲
RIP Doug 🕯 XXX
(11th May, 1935 - 5th February, 1995).
6ft1.

I saw Doug in an episode of Matlock as I was waiting for Medium to start. I remember him best for playing Trampus
in The Virginian, from the 60s.
6ft1.

6ft1 is fair...

I caught sight of Doug next to Peter Cushing in 'At the Earth's Core' yesterday evening a few minutes before 'The Twilight Zone' started on the 'Horror' channel's weekend fun and frivolities!
Having already done a write-up on Peter, I was aware that he was 5ft11.5; he was also on yesterday with his friend 6ft4.5-5 Christopher Lee and he did look just under 6ft, when comparing the two masters of horror.
However, the films were twelve years apart, so Peter might have shrunk a bit by the time the 1976 film was made with Doug McClure, who looked about 6ft3 next to him!
I knew that couldn't be true as I have looked at Doug's page before, so I resorted to studying some of the comments. I'm going along with 6ft1, though he did look taller in 1976!
* It always makes for great reading when you find someone has actually met the star and has nice things to say about him or her! (mcmallen's comment from 16th November 06)

He never looked 6'1".

Doug was almost a reference for the height of 6'1" actors in TV westerns, i.e. his role in the long running "The Virginian". He also proved Stewart Granger was never 6'3", except in "lifts" in earlier movies.

Sat next to him at dinner in the early 1990's real nice guy. Was shorter than me at 6'2", I would say a hair under 6'. He did tell me he had lots of back problems from his days as a stunt man, so maybe he slumped or had lost some height.
