Rob, how tall does André Maranne seem at the beginning of this clip with Lom?

Editor Rob
Could seem close to 2 inches of difference.

Rob, if you had to choose between 5’7.5” and 5’8” for Lom’s peak, which one would you choose?
Editor Rob
I think he's a case of being listed 3/4 because I couldn't decide on 7.5 or 8!
Gerald S said on 22/Feb/23
Rob, could you please do a Pink Panther actors tag?
It could encompass Lom, Peter Sellers, David Niven, Robert Wagner, Capucine, Claudia Cardinale, John Le Mesurier, Burt Kwouk, Christopher Plummer, Catherine Schell, Leonard Rossiter, Lesley Anne Down, Dyan Cannon, Robert Webber, Robert Loggia, Joanna Lumley, Denise Crosby, Leslie Ash, Harvey Korman, Roger Moore, Donald Sumpter, Bill Nighy, Roberto Benigni, Robert Davi, Debrah Farentino, Dermot Crowley, Steve Martin, Jean Reno, Emily Mortimer, Kevin Kline, Beyonce Knowles, Henry Czerny, Jason Statham, Kristin Chenoweth, Clive Owen, John Cleese, Lily Tomlin, Andy Garcia, Alfred Molina, Geoffrey Palmer, Jeremy Irons and Aishwarya Rai.

Lom looked very 5’8ish in Mr. Topaze, barely anything in it between Lom and Sellers. Though, I wouldn’t want to influence you to mess with Lom’s listing, Rob. Sellers’ listing is the one which needs adjustment, I feel.

I found a copy of Asylum. It costs £36, so until I see a less exorbitantly priced copy, I’ll have to check Herbert out in Stephen King’s movie The Dead Zone, directed by David Cronenberg.
At least Herbert is NICE in that!
5ft7.75.

I’ll have to check this film out on other websites, as the ones I’ve been offered have been copies which might not play on my TV, but I can always see Herbert in The Dead Zone, and compare him to Christopher Walken, who towers over him.
Wow - I’ve noticed up top that Herbert starred in Spartacus!
Sandy C said on 22/Jul/22
Yes, indeed, I’m pleased to say that Peter Cushing does star in the 1972 film, Asylum.
Sandy C said on 22/Jul/22
I want a copy of Asylum now! It’s absolutely star-studded, with Robert Powell, Britt Ekland and Charlotte Rampling in fine form. Now I feel compelled to check out if one particularly prominent Horror Actor features in it. 🤞 If so, I’ll be back…..
It’s a thoroughly original movie containing short stories, but Herbert’s is by far the most shocking.
Herbert gets 5ft7.75.

Actually, Lom was almost an inch shorter than a peak Jean Gabin but somehow could pass for a strong 5’8” in And Then There Were None (1974) and The Frightened City, whilst looking barely 5’7.5” in El Cid (his footwear was not much help in that film though).
Sinclair said on 3/Jun/22
Same height as worthy add Jean Gabin; weak 5’8”.
Sinclair said on 24/May/22
Lom could easily pass for Rob’s height in And Then There Were None (1974). 5’8” peak more likely than 5’7.5”, although Peter Sellers did have close to an inch on Lom; Sellers may have been closer to 5’8” than 5’8.5” too. I would still put Lom’s peak at 5’7.75”; Sellers’ at 5’8.25”.

Rob, what would be your favourite Herbert Lom film?
And Then There Were None (1974), A Shot In the Dark and The Ladykillers all make my top 10 in fact! I think Lom looked his tallest however in The Frightened City, he could pass for a strong 5'8" in that, next to six footer Alfred Marks.
Editor Rob
For me The Ladykillers holds up well. I don't believe I've seen the Frightened City.
Sinclair said on 27/Feb/22
Rob, how tall would you say André Maranne was? 5’10”?
Maranne had about two inches on Lom, 1.5 inches on Peter Sellers and looked the same height as 5’10” John Nettles in an episode of Bergerac, even when aged 64 (Snow in Provence). Six footers like Ted Wass and Douglas Wilmer only had Maranne by a couple of inches.
Editor Rob
My initial thought is a bit shy of a full 5ft 10

I loved Herbert's role in 'The Dead Zone', which I saw tonight. He plays someone decent and stable, in the form of coma victim Christopher Walken's doctor, and he genuinely cares for him.
I noticed in my last comment that I referred to him as a 'little man'. Well, that isn't strictly true, but in comparison to the youthful Christopher Walken, he looks quite tiny!
Herbert gets 5ft7.75 😁
Sinclair said on 6/Aug/20
5’7.75” is a perfect shout for Mr. Lom, my favourite actor. Peter Sellers was probably around half an inch taller than this talented legend. Both men looked very similar in height, particularly in The Ladykillers.

This guy was is some fantastic films and could do comedy and menacing equally well! His comedy was based on his 'little man - big temper' appearance I think! If he'd been huge, it wouldn't have been quite so comical!
Herbert also starred in a 70's horror called 'Asylum', wherein he had the cream of all the patients' roles! It also starred Robert Powell as a young psychiatrist being shown round an institution and hearing the stories of how the patients ended up there! Herbert's little tale is saved until last!
I reckon Herbie was 5ft7.75 in his prime.

I have always thought he was a short man, in the 1`70 área. Great actor and great voice
Sam said on 6/Apr/15
I guessed him at 5'8" so we all seem to line up regarding him. Actually I think he and Sellers were pretty close in height.

Also not that much shorter than Alec Guinness.

& didn't lose that much w/ age w/ Claudia Cardinale & Roberto Benigni:

I guess at times he could look near an inch shorter than Sellers though.

Thanks Rob, can you also squeeze in War and Peace, Count Dracula, Gambit and King Solomon's Mines? Well I always guessed him at 5 ft 8 flat, in fact in Dorian Gray he looked to have the edge on Richard Todd! But I'm not going to quibble about 0.25 of an inch :-)
