Canadian actor best remembered for roles in films such as Mildred Pierce (1945), Romance on the High Seas, It's a Great Feeling, Arsenic and Old Lace, A Star is Born, Destry Rides Again, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Tarnished Angels and Gentleman Jim. He once mentioned that he was rejected by the US Army Corps because "At Six foot two inches I wouldn't fit into the cockpit of most of the wartime planes," and also "[At college] I weighed 220 pounds and stood two inches over six feet.".

He looks like an overgrown version of Lee Evans in that photo

Excellent find Rob, thanks. Probably more 230 range by that film then as I'm sure he was heavier than in college, most guys are! He looks 16 stone odd I reckon.

@Rob, I don't know if you can find a quote on his weight but see him at 33 minute range here
Click Here I think he could look between 220 and 240 pounds don't you? Do you get 230 ish or is it just me?

Editor Rob
he said at college he was 220 pounds, how much bigger he is there I don't know, but I would say 220-30 range, maybe at times he could have been over that.

Seen a lot of him recently in films like Phfft, Romance on the High Seas and My Dreams is Yours. Looked a big, heavyset guy, I wouldn't be surprised if he was around 230 pounds.

The difference with James Stewart looks not less than 1.5 inches, although I've long thought that a young Stewart with good posture was more in 6'3.25"-6'3.5" range than a flat 6'3".

Thanks for adding, Rob! Can you add Destry Rides Again, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and The Tarnished Angels?
Liked him best in Mildred Pierce and A Star is Born, in which his characters had more depth than his usual bumbling blowhard types.

Jack was a 6' 2" reference point in many films, just like Gregory Peck for 6' 3" height. Jack's regular co-star at Warners, Dennis Morgan, was 6' 1", but in several of their films Dennis used lifts to equal Jack's 6' 2".

I requested him a while back Sam but Rob didn't add him! Looked a solid 6'2 with Doris Day in It's a Great Feeling. Enjoyable actor.
