His listed height of 5'10" is accurate.

He was 5'10", but in 1955's "Pete Kelly's Blues", did not seem short alongside the much taller Lee Marvin.

I worked for him back in 1981. At that time he was a solid 5'10" although he had put on some weight which showed around his waist. He always wore metal taps on the heels of his shoes so we always knew when he was coming down the hall. Smoked like a chimney. And could drink most guys under the table yet he never, ever appeared intoxicated. Then one day he dropped dead from a massive heart attack.

Not sure what his height was but he had the shortest stride of any walking actor I ever saw. Took little baby steps. Always looked strange.
