In The Corn is Green again he looks like he could have been a bit taller. In some scenes could pass for a 6 ft 2 guy. A tall looking 6'1 guy.

@Tom, Stewart was easily 6'3 peak, but for some reason in Rope looked his shortest in his career and oddly more like 6'2 in it in some scenes. Can't explain it, and you're spot on that in some scenes he could look barely an inch taller than Dall.

Just watched Rope again. At times Stewart looks barely an inch taller than Dall, but occasionally it looks more like two inches. Dall's definitely a couple of inches taller than Granger. As Hollywood likes to add on a bit, I doubt Stewart was the full 6'3 and I'd put Granger at 5'11 max. Dall somewhere in between.

I think that 6'3.25" is quite probable for Stewart. Unlike Rob, I haven't seen Rope in years so I don't recall as well how Dall stacked up. I think in some stills such as with Fredric March and Edmond O'Brien, Dall seems only a tad over a couple inches taller which puts him more around a strong six foot.

Jimmy looks about 6ft4 in that photo if Dall was 6ft1 or therabouts.

@Rob, you watched Rope, that was the film I thought Jimmy Stewart looked his lowest in! He could oddly just look 6 ft 2 range in that film, his posture in it was really poor though. Please watch some of Stewart's films from 1937-1941 period including that one with Pidgeon. Stewart claimed both 6'3.5 and 6'3", and the namesake in Harvey was 6'3.5, based on his own height. I think 6'3.25 peak for Stewart is fair, about 1.5 inches shorter than Rock Hudson who I think was 195.

Editor Rob I've only recently seen him in Rope so don't know what he was like in other films, but I did think near 6ft 1 was possible with Stewart, more than 184cm...but then Jimmy at times wasn't at his tallest in that film.

As an aside, from a purely physical standpoint I always thought he suggested Stewart's somewhat wayward cousin or nephew. Wasn't aware he was gay, which gives an interesting subtext to that homoerotic film since both he and Granger were forced to be "in the closet" at that time. Dall's best performance though I think was in Gun Crazy.
