Scottish Actor best known for roles in film such as Sliding Doors, The Mummy trilogy, Four Weddings and a Funeral and TV series Spartacus. From Jane magazine on filming Gwyneth Paltrow's Sliding Doors movie: "John, who is 5 foot 10, had to wear lifts during the close-ups, but took it as a compliment. "I was like, 'Wow, I've arrived,' because there woulda been a time in my career where they just woulda got a taller actor," John brags. "They were worn by Tom Cruise, so I kept them." John himself said in The Guardian newspaper "I wouldn't mind being a bit taller - I am 5ft 10in".

Wearing the same lifts as tom cruise? Nice I'm putting that on my list of things to do. Back to the guys height, in Spartacus he doesn't wear the sandals the gladiators do he is wearing rather large heels... it's awkward, and even Whitfield in sandals still edges him out.

Actually there's a scene in Four Weddings where Hugh Grant is barefoot and Hannah in shoes and Grant was barely taller, almost the same height. So quite possible he is around 5'10.5" in shoes. I still think though that 176 might be more likely.

Editor Rob 5ft 9 is possible, up to 5ft 9.5 isn't impossible. The guy's posture at times can make him even look a weak 5ft 9

Editor Rob, I have evidence that John Hannah is no more than a flat 5'8. As an avid Spartacus fan, I've noticed that in episode 5 of season 1 there's a clear shot of John Hannah and Lucy Lawless facing eachother. In that shot Lucy seems to be .25 taller than John I'd say but if you look closely at some scenes before and after, you'll notice that wwhile Lucy is wearing flat sandals, John is wearing shoes that clearly give around 2inches.

Looks 5'8" or 5'9" tops because with 2 inch sandals in Spartucas show he is only the height of Lucy Lawless who is in flats and stands about 5'10".

That Jane quote really surprised me when I first read it. For some reason, John comes across as more of a 5-9er in some of his roles.
Though he did look like a pretty good-sized fella in "Rebus," come to think of it.
