Feel free to disagree with me. I think 6’4 5/8” is too low for Kobe. Generally, I do think 6’4 7/8” or even roughly 6’5” is very arguable for Kobe Bryant. I could see an argument for both. Sky north of 6’5” is something I would say is a tad bit high.
Now, I’m curious about one thing: is there a chance that ‘Phil Jackson’ (the coach who trained
Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant) could potentially get a page here?

Indeed true that i found out most 6'5 range guy having a 4.9-5" range eye but Kobe look to have higher eye level equal to some 5'11-6'1 guys. Jordan look to have small fraction lower eye sets than Kobe. Barkley had the worst lower one like a full 5". That could be some reason why Kobe look alot like 6'5 1/2 by giving impression than Jordan and Barkley.
Canson said on 27/Aug/18
@Junior: I’m not thinking a false measurement. That may just be close to a low for Kobe whereas other guys are measuring and claiming higher earlier in the day. People who’ve met Kobe here have said 6’4” and weak 6’5 so doubt he is a full 6’5” prob around where his wife measured him. Maybe worst case he dips to 6’4 5/8 after a longer day
Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 26/Aug/18
Rob, do you think Kobe eye level to head is only similar to you at 4.6 inch?
Editor Rob
I'd expect it was more average range, so somewhere in 4.5-6 more than 4.9-5 that can be a more common range for very tall 6ft 5 men.

Kobe Bryant is taller than Gerard Piqué the soccer player
In the thread of Gerard Pique on this site you can see on a clip that he is measured this year 194.9 (194.5 without breathing in)

@Junior: Lebron isn’t a flat 6’6 but he could be 6’6.5-6’6.75. Durant imho is 6’9-6’9.5 max

@Dream: 6’4 7/8 seems Too high for Newton. His is a morning measurement at the combine so likely he could even be 6’4 5/8 or 6’4.5 although he looks 195 like Kobe imho
Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 24/Aug/18
False measurement often occur. Can say i stubborn but if Kobe is not 6'5 i would put Kirk Fox and Peter Hermann down 6'4-6'4 1/2. I can't see them same or taller than Kobe except they got a chunk of hair up advantage than a bald Kobe.

Kobe 6’4 3/4
Jordan still looks the same imho but Barkley could be solid 194cm today
Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 20/Aug/18
@Dream(5'9.5") 6'5 is literally 195.6cm. That is a huge potion of possibility that if Kobe tend to stand well he could measure within 6'5 give or take 1-2mm lower i just feel it, Take it a low. That is why most people thought him as 6'5 1/2 and pushing Barkley and Jordan as 6'5-6'5 1/4 guesses.
Dream(5'9.5") said on 18/Aug/18
Personally, I wouldn't put Kobe under 6'4 3/4". He edged out
Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley.
I'd say 6'4.875" or even a full 6'5" is more than arguable for Bryant. However, the latter would be more a 'mid afternoon' height, but he's certainly entitled to claim 6'5" more than the other two.
Canson said on 2/Aug/18
@Dream: I could believe Bo and World Peace (Artest) at 6’6 out of bed very easily. Then 6’5.25 at a low. I do agree both would edge Kobe by half Inch (6’4.75 at a low). Kobe would probably measure around 6’5 1/2 out of bed
Dream(5'9.5") said on 1/Aug/18
@Canson @Junior
For me, what really solidified 6’5.25” for Bo Burnham was comparing him and Kobe Bryant to MCW. When that happen, I thought 6’5.25” would be a much better fit for Bo.
For Kobe Bryant, all of us could make a case that he could be 6’4.875” or maybe even a 6’5” flat. However, I personally wouldn’t go ‘above’ 6’5 flat. That would put Bo and Artest at 6’5.5”-6’5.75”.
There is a chance for 6’5 3/8” for Bo and Artest. While I wouldn’t put them at that listing for an ‘absolute’ low, it’s easy to say both of them ‘will’ measure that mark, at one point in the day, without question.

Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 30/Jul/18
@Dream(5'9.5") I did say Bo is not just 6'5 1/4 that simple to be honest watching his performance on stage so far i could see strongly from 6'5 1/4 to 6'5 1/2 and even look near 6'6 sometimes. He might be measure a lowest at 6'5 3/8 (196.5cm). I did say If Kobe stand tall and measure it would not surprise me he get a 6'5 measurement. Ron Artest and Bo both height look to be the most comparable in this site, might both rest down at a low 196.5cm.

Canson said on 7/Jul/18
@Rising: it’s odd. I’ve never been able to find a pre draft for Hill like the other players have. My guess though is something like 6’7 and change for a low and he would be probably 6’8” or hair over out of bed. The difference with MJ and Pip I can agree on. At times it can look even less but then at times it can look 3”. It’s strange that the back to back pic they have actually diminishes the difference a bit. That would put Pippen only at 6’6” tho or if we went with 195cm for Jordan then 6’6.25 which seems low for him. Now I could argue Scottie as 6’6.75 when he played and perhaps 6’7” early career only because he had back surgery twice. But I concur prob around 6cm diff between them. I would say Jordan 194.3cm and Scottie 200 or so
Rising - 174 cm said on 5/Jul/18
@Junior: Grant was supposed to have measured 6'8" in '94, but whether that was an early measurement is another case. Hill looks very similar to 6'7.25" Lebron in the '05 all-star photo:
Click Here Looks like Grant might just edge Lebron out. 6'8" might be an early measurement for him and he may be more like 6'7.5". Pippen was about 6 cm taller than MJ, but I think MJ was 195 cm, maybe a weak 6'5" and Scottie at least 6'7"-6'7.5", but possibly shorter now. T-Mac looked around 6'7" to me, but he might have been just under that. Tough to say because he had an enormous wingspan like Pippen, but he also played 2 guard most of the time so he'd look taller in comparison. He was barely 18 when he was drafted, but he also had chronic back problems and slouched so tough to say. Definitely not 6'9"-6'10" as some believed, but he was noticeably taller than Drexler and close to Magic Johnson's height. But Magic could be argued at only 6'7" flat judging by how he can look with Kobe.
Canson said on 4/Jul/18
@Rising and Junior: Rising is correct there is no official listing but Hill was said many times to be 6’7” barefoot. I would throw some change on there and call him maybe 201. I never believed Pippen’s listing of 6’7.5. That was said to be a shoe height as well. But that seems a little low as it would make him only slightly above 6’6”. I can believe anywhere from 6’6.5-6’7 for Pippen as he had Jordan by about 5-6cm and Jordan was 6’4 1/2. TMac like Rising said 6’6.25-.5 I’ve seen both listings. Remember with him one leg was longer than the other. And yea he’s “about” 2” taller than Kobe. Kobe at 195cm and Tmac at “about 199”.
Canson said on 3/Jul/18
@Christian: yea next to Kobe Strahan can appear 1” shorter. Maybe 192.7 if Kobe is 195. But never compared Brady to Kobe. Gronk however looks noticeably taller than Kobe
Rising - 174 cm said on 3/Jul/18
T-Mac was listed 6'8" throughout his entire NBA career, though Kobe actually referred to T-Mac as 6'9" when saying he was the toughest player he played against, but he was likely exaggerating and many may have perceived Tracy as taller than he was because of his enormous wingspan. T-Mac had chronic back problems and tended to slouch, but he was slightly shorter than Grant Hill and Mike Miller:
Click Here Miller is supposed to have measured 6'7.5" and Hill 6'8", but neither is completely reliable as the NBA doesn't list Miller among it's 2000 measurements and Grant Hill is obviously pre-2000. I agree Kobe can look less than 2" shorter, but some believe Grant Hill was more like 6'7" and if that's the case then T-Mac looks 6'6" range with him.
Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 1/Jul/18
T-Mac drafted at 6'7 barefoot and listed at 6'9.
Click Here: Kobe look at most 1.75" shorter.
Christian 6'5 3/8" said on 30/Jun/18
@Canson
If they're 193, then Kobe would look 195.5. But you're that 2cm and 2.5cm is indistinguishable at times, and 192.7 doesn't look different from 193 either. Brady and Strahan could be 192.7 but they'll basically look 193.
Canson said on 30/Jun/18
@Christian: I wonder how long the morning measurements in the NFL have been going on. Peyton Manning can look 195 cm with JJ Watt assuming Watt is also maybe a morning height. But manning may have lost height from the injuries. Manning can look the height he’s listed at times in his prime. I would’ve pegged him as a legit 196 at a low. Brady on the other hand may be 6’3 7/8 or 6’4. I see someone like Strahan and think 6’4
Canson said on 30/Jun/18
@Christian: that’s about right 3/8-1/2” less. I actually wouldn’t put either under 6’4” flat but two other variables I mentioned to Junior are that 2 cm and 2.5 don’t look that much different and even if someone has a slight camera angle it could throw it off. Not to mention what Junior mentioned Kobe may have been above 6’4.75. Even if he were maybe 195.1-195.2 that would swing it to closer to 2.5 appearance. But it’s possible too that Strahan and Brady fall a mm or two under 6’4 and will still look their heights since it’s only mm or two
Christian 6'5 3/8" said on 28/Jun/18
@Junior
Strahan/Brady might be 6'3 7/8" then. They're about 3/8"-1/2" lower than their measurements which is about typical for an NFL player.
Canson said on 28/Jun/18
@Junior: I’d actually say he would measure 6’5.25 or 6’5 1/8 if he were being measured at the time when a pre draft takes place (1 hour out of bed). 6’5.5 out of bed 6’4.75 at a low give or take maybe a couple mm. They don’t do 1/8” increments in the NBA but sometimes Kobe can look a weak 6’5 others solid 6’5. Kobe with Paul pierce or Melo looks no more than 195.
Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 28/Jun/18
@Christian
6'5 3/8" That is what i posted here before he maybe 6'4 7/8 at his low measurement took place at night and just told his wife round down a bit. Higher chance. So 6'5-6'5 1/8 walking in the morning and afternoon of the day is possible why he doesn't look under 6'5 and chances Strahan and Tom Brady was like Kobe lost the 1/8 extra from their low looking 6'4 at night. But MJ look 1/4 shorter than Kobe that picture we could argue MJ might be loosing more posture in the picture or shoes/camera angle because looking how he look solid 4" on 185cm Obama we can say 6'4 3/4 is possible not under for MJ.
Canson said on 22/Jun/18
@Junior: if those were morning heights Brady could be 6’3 7/8 or 6’4 at a low while Strahan could be 6’3.75 or 7/8 at a low. I doubt either is any lower however and I’d say peak both are flat 6’4” guys. You have to remember at an inch vs 2cm it’s hard to tell the difference to a T. Strahan May have lost some height as well
Christian 6'5 3/8" said on 22/Jun/18
@Junior
At most I can see Kobe at 6'4 7/8" and she might've rounded down to 6'4.75" but I doubt she measured him at 6'5". I agree with you that Kobe can easily look 6'5"+ if you base it on other celebs' listings because more than likely they're slightly overlisted.
Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 22/Jun/18
@Canson Really no way Strahan look 6'4 with Kobe if Mamba is only 195cm. Lets just say Brady and Strahan is 192.5cm at their low it is possible and since Kobe is proper inch taller. Really not 1/2 not 3/4 that little and we can't just trust Vanessa Bryant words just because she claim him under 6'5. According to Kobe lakers former teammates all say he was 6'5-6'6 ofcos the 6'6 got to be a sneakers height and Wade call Kobe 6'6 we know Wade himself claim 6'4 but his not. So my point is Strahan could also be a low 6'4 but Kobe possibly was under measure by 1/4 no big deal that 6'5 also a low for him. I watch a clip on youtube some while ago Kobe on a morning american show with Strahan that look about 3cm also an inch but someone remove the video away. So there is no way flat 195cm could edge a 6'4 guy this way and they both had leveled footwear.
Canson said on 21/Jun/18
@Junior: Strahan May have lost height or that may have been him measuring in the AM at 6’4.25 and he’s likely a full 6’4” at a low like Brady. Kobe looks 195 range with him I’ll say and maybe not perfect 6’4.75 but maybe a mm or two above max
Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 21/Jun/18
False measurement took place sometimes we should not denied it. Vanessa Bryant may have measure him just once and it is possible a casual posture Kobe stand so a false measurement happens, btw just a 1/4 inch more so i don't see why not happen and he does say to be 6'5 and claim it on Jay Leno show. Kobe look a proper full inch taller than 6'4 1/4 Michael Strahan and there is a picture at Nickelodeon award look 1.5" between them as Kobe had a 1/3 more sneakers. I still think Kobe could be a proper 6'5 than just 6'4 3/4. Strahan was measure 6'4 1/4 in the morning so not a proper 6'4 1/4 much like close to 6'4 at his low. I initially thought 6'5 before i start comment in this site and i still think a true 6'5 for Kobe by looking at those 6'5 claim actors its awful that most of them look 1/2 inch lower than Kobe when make comparison with actors that have took picture with Kobe. It's not that hard to believe it.

As well, poster KROC met him and said he’s 6’7” in person. I would say 6’6.5-6’7 is the lowest. Now Kevin Love I’ve seen is only 6’7”ish not 6’7.75 but because he likely was measured at the equivalent to a morning height despite the fact it took place in the afternoon that year (2008), but for good reason as he’s undersized to begin with even if he were really 6’7.75. Love doesnt have a full inch or more on Lebron it’s aboit half inch. I would guess Lebron no lower than 6’6.5 or .75 and Love at 6’7.25

He’s no less at least from how he stacked up next to me. There is always a possibility of 6’6.25 as there also is of maybe 6’5 7/8 at normal low but the latter doesn’t seem realistic being everyone around us said 1.5-2” taller than me. That could be an extreme low maybe. I know that my former AAU coach has met Barkley Jordan and Kobe and also said Kobe was the tallest of the 3 that he looked closer to 6’5”. He actually said Barkley and Jordan were about as tall as I am. I still keep in contact and have seen him recently. “About as tall as” could mean 1/4” taller or 1/8”. I wouldn't be surprised that Kobe can be re-measured a proper 6'5 or a bit more but not by his wife. People should bare in mind there is an inch between Kobe and Michael Strahan who admit and claim he is 6'4 and a bit not 6'5. Faulty measurement happens all the time. Added that Kobe look over an inch taller than the late 6'4 1/4 Michael Clarke Duncan.

@Dream: I can agree with most of your list to be honest. Cleese won’t be taller today but peak possibly by a hair. moeller to me falls into the same category as AJ. Or at least very close. Watt surprisingly for a morning measurement holds a height like that well.

- Ralf Moeller
- JJ Watt
- Joe Bryce
- Nonso Aonzie
- Howard Stern
- Ashley Banjo
- Wladimir Klistchko
- Bo Burnham
- Bo Svenson
- John Cleese
- Tom Noonan
Those are the 10% percent. I won't be counting guys like Anthony Joshua (Who would definitely be taller than Kobe Bryant.) Keep in mind, this is not from tallest to shortest. This is only a list of people who I think can be taller than Kobe Bryant.
I'm curious. What does anyone make of my list of the 10% percent?

I believe that guy either had an early day measurement or mismeasured a bit. Hair shouldn't be adding 5/8" to anyone's height if measured correctly. I had pretty thick hair a while ago and my measurements back then and now are barely any different.

Anyway Vanessa just throwing words twice to claim Kobe was 6'4 3/4 and she had no evidence to prove it. We can best tell or see it that Kobe look an easy 6'5 guy like he claim on Jay Leno show over a decades ago. One fact i don't see Vanessa over 5'3.5" standing next to Kobe all the time took the variation off on her heels and their barefoot together pictures she just doesn't look a proper 5'4 women that i have know in person. The problem is what kind of height measurement instrument she used to measure Kobe or a height chart that is paste to the wall likely give or take 1cm off or give more. Kobe real height is really a myth that if Jordan get a 6'5 listing and impression by Rob then i would say Kobe look 6'5.25" min because Kobe look max an inch on 6'4 1/4 Michael Strahan although Strahan was measure in the morning for NFL draft height.

I agree Junior. He passes for 6’5 because he’s in sneaks and dress shoes a lot. So in his case he hits 6’6” in shoes
@Dream and Rob: Jackson was 6’7 peak but may be 6’6.5 or so now. He didn’t have a noticeable advantage on Rodman and really didn’t look as tall as Pippen

@Junior and Christian: a poster named KROC claimed to have met Kobe and KROC himself was 6’5/6’5.25 (196ish) and said Kobe was slightly shorter. He said he looked 194/195 but then also that he looked 195cm at best. He thought it was about half inch. Then a poster named Sam went to the same high school as Kobe and said that a friend of his graduated same class as Kobe and that his friend was “about 6’4” and that Kobe was “about” an inch taller

@Christian: I think that source took what he admitted to Being measured by his wife. However, I totally believe the measurement and it’s how he normally looks. In addition, I agree with you that If he measured that, he’s definitely 195 not 196 especially being we base it on afternoon heights here on CH. looking at him next to Draymond Green, I would say that Kobe looks a cm maybe half inch shorter. Green Looks about your height since he measured 6’5.75 in the morning but likely 6’5.25ish at a low.
Canson said on 20/May/18
@Canisvy: a guy who measures 6’4.75 won’t be 6’5.5 average even if that’s his extreme low. He would be that height out of bed or best case maybe 6’5.75-6’6 if he loses more than average. Otherwise, a customary measurement for a guy like that is 6’5.5 out of bed. But The best case avg would be 6’5 flat most likely. But that’s how he looks. It’s more of a fact that most people are overlisted. He is shorter than 196-197cm Rick Fox and Sasha Vujecic. Assuming Sasha was a low at 6’5.5 he’s at least 1/2” taller and most measurements aren’t at a low. It’s more likely that Kobe measured at or near his low.

Canson said on 11/May/18
I think if you took Barkley MJ and Kobe and stood them back to back against one another that Kobe would be the tallest. He may actually be a legit 195 at a normal low as he can look 195isj at times or even 6’5” more regularly than the other two
Canson said on 8/May/18
@VicLions:
I can agree that a person measuring 6’4.75 and 6’5 won’t look much different from one another. So he is “essentially” about 6’5” since he’s closer to it. But Him saying he’s only 6’4” was not meant to downplay his height. It was intended more so to say that he was not 6’7” like everyone thought he was (like he told the kid)
VicLions said on 6/May/18
Yeah he does look like a legit 6ft5 to me. He seems to downplay his height sometimes.
Canson said on 3/May/18
@Junior: yes I’ve always maintained that he could drop to a flat 6’6 or maybe 6’6 1/8. But in the end he is much closer to his predraft height than someone like Dwyane Wade or John Wall or even James Harden or Steph Curry. But it could be that he gained a fraction as well. Not 100% sure what time of day that they measured that year but also having met Keith Bogans he looks about 6’4.25 that he’s listed as well and was measured 6’4.5 in the previous combine (2002). He decided to go back to college though. That leads me to believe that either 2002 was an error or earlier in the day. He looks the same as I do in person if anything maybe he’s half cm shorter.
I can top that for Melo out of bed. I could see 6’7”. Someone his size may lose a full inch. As for Kobe there is the possibility of 195 but at that stage we’re talking 6’4.77 vs 6’4.75. Or 195cm vs 194.945 which is what 6’4.75 is. You can’t see a difference of 194.945 and 195 though because it’s not even a full mm difference between them. But someone measuring 195 flat is likely going to list 6’4.75 as nobody measures perfectly to a fraction which is why metric is a better gauge of height than English. And that’s if they’re being specific. Otherwise the average person that size claims 6’5”
Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 2/May/18
@Canson I believe you have met Melo but i doubt his lowest is under 6'6 1/4 like 6'6 flat you say. Melo could easily be 200cm out of bed. Kobe is really not below 195cm if you look at him with more legit 6'2 1/4 Russell Westbrook. 6'4.75" is only 194.9cm i would even throw 1/8 more for Kobe.
Jason 193cm said on 2/May/18
@Junior agreed, I wear some fairly typical Nikes and they give me 3cm - 1.25 inches. They're pretty standard as far as basketball shoes go.

@Junior: when I met Melo he was in a dress shoe at a restaurant. It looked the same as mine from a glance but he didn’t look less than 6’6 but probably not as high as 6’6.5. I would guess that if he dips below his draft height it’s to a flat 6’6” if even that. 198-199 is probably good for him. Kobe looks about his listed height at a low. If he dips below it’s prob not more than maybe 194.7 or so

It's more rare to say those basketball shoes give less than 1.2" (3cm) wear by NBA players nowadays. We can see nike air given 1.4-1.5" boost with a pair of thick socks. Carmelo Anthony had often wear it in the past that maybe why he often give others impression of 6'6.5" with teammates.

Rob, do you have any idea on the brand of basketball shoes players are measured in? Looking at stats, players are usually said to be around 0.75' taller with shoes on, but Kobe's wife said that his Nike Sneakers gave him 1.25 inches of height?
Editor Rob
I would say the brands vary...0.75 is a small basketball sneaker, 1.5 big - I've seen that as the common range over the years of reading barefoot/sneaker measurements.
Canson said on 5/Apr/18
@Dream: it could go either direction. Kobe may easily edge a 196.5 cm guy out if he has camera angle. Or if one isn’t standing straight since 195cm is only 1.5cm below that
Dream(5'9.5 said on 2/Apr/18

A genuine measured guy that height may well look roughly similar, you'd probably say they all could look close to a guy like that, even if they measure less than him. 1cm isn't that much, it can vanish in a photo quite easily.

@Johnson: pretty sure 6’8.75 was it barefoot or 6’8.5. That’s what I remember. I saw where Kendrick Perkins measured 6’8.25 I believe and he looks slightly taller than Perk and slightly shorter than KD. Meaning a 6’9.5 (at best) KD will look 2cm maybe just half inch taller depending on what KD is. KD measured 6’9” flat in 2007 and someone that age “can” potentially grow but it’s highly unlikely it’s that much. Maybe they gain 1/4” or 1/2” anything higher is not normal. Very few 19-20 year olds grow a lot more than that. I believe Durant to be in the neighborhood of 6’9.25-.5 not any higher tho. Looks just enough to be 6’9.5 other times looks more a flat 6’9”

If Kobe’s wife measured him 6’4.75 he’s not “over 6’5” and it Rodman claimed 6’6” he’s likely not 6’7 or 6’8. NBA listings are in shoes not barefoot
Canson said on 24/Feb/18
@Chris: Kobe’s wife (referenced above) said she measured Kobe at 6’4.75. Common sense is that NBA measurements are in shoes that is widely known. And I’ve met Carmelo before his pre draft listing of 6’6.25 Is totally accurate as he was 1.5-2” taller than me I’m 6’4 1/4-1/2 myself. I mean you can’t have it both ways. Wanting everyone to be taller like you always do and then saying a pre draft is wrong (in the opposite direction). If anything it would be inflated. So Kobe being 1.5” shorter than Melo makes him 6’4.75
Johnson said on 24/Feb/18
@Chris I agree with you. I am a free mind... about basketball players I will not debate anymore. I just observe pictures and will go to my conclusions

Chris said on 23/Feb/18
The problem with this site, is you're convinced everyone is smaller than they say.
So you bring Shaq down to 6'11...........
And then you say "Well, Tim Duncan is only 6'9 because Shaq is 6'11"..........
And then you say "Well Karl Malone is only 6'8 because he's not taller than Tim Duncan".......
And then you say "Well Rodman is only 6'6 because he's 2 inches shorter than Karl Malone"........
And then you say "Well Jordan must be 6'5 because he's 1 inch shorter than Rodman"..........
And then you say "Well Kobe must be 6'4 because he's shorter than Jordan"
And the entire process probably just started with you getting Shaq's height wrong!
Editor Rob
The funny thing is, Rodman claimed 6ft 6, Kobe claimed 6ft 4 and Shaq claimed 6ft 11!
Chris said on 23/Feb/18
Kobe is taller than 6'5. I saw a picture of him playing for team USA, where the entire team were standing in a line, dead straight, and he was about 2 inches taller than Dwayne Wade (who you list at almost 6'4). He was only marginally smaller than Carmelo Anthony. I'd say he's an inch smaller than Carmelo. Making him 6'5.5

@Johnson: he may be. But then again I see Rose next to Pippen and Pippen looks noticeably taller. I can’t buy anything over 6’7” for Scottie and he even looks under the mark very often. I saw him with Zach Randolph when they played in Portland. Randolph is a barefoot 6’7”. You can see with him too next to Rasheed Wallace and Mark Gasol. Now I’m not saying Rose is far under 6’6” it at all but I would bank he’s def not over Paul pierce in height

Canson said on 29/Jan/18
@Johnson: what rob lists him if he hasn’t met him is irrelevant. Usually Rob will not undercut anyone if he doesn’t see fit. Look at Melo with Kobe and you can tell also with other ball players. Like I’ve said I’ve met Melo and in addition five people around me said 1.5-2”. Not to mention I can tell a difference of 6’6” and 6’7” as I have 2 friends both sizes. I mean being I have the pre draft of Melo at 6’6.25 and that’s how he looks that’s what I choose to believe. It’s just that that height is his normal height whereas he could easily be 6’7-6’7.25 out of bed. You have to actually come to reality at some point and realize that while people “may” grow after 18 it’s not as likely as you think. You think 90% of the basketball players here “grew up”. People who say they did I’m sure some do but I’m sure some exaggerate that they do. And being he’s a small forward and now actually a power forward I find it hard to believe the NBA would undermeasure him. It’s far more likely to be the opposite case if anything and that he may have been less or measured earlier and grown to that height if anything.

@Ok: nick young actually had a pre draft of 6’5 not 6’5.5. That’s a morning measurement and not sure how valid it is (could be 195cm 6’4.77 and rounded up as the NBA doesn’t do 1/8” increments). The difference with Young and Kobe isn’t all that much so more likely Young may be 6’4.25-6’4.5 and Kobe 6’4.75 like he said he was. And btw Draymond Green is taller than Kobe by a cm or half inch and Iggy looks taller than Draymond is. Iggy was measured 6’5.75 not 6’6” and not sure what time of day that took place. If Kobe’s wife says 6’4.75 it is likely the truth

@Junior: I’d give Scottie 200 and Melo could be 198.5/199 anywhere 198-99. As far as morning evening we are at the mercy of the time of day it took place and it appears 2003 was later imho. And Johnson upgrades people imho. He adds to Rose by 1.25” Melo by .5” and tried to inflate Kobe and Lebron. He has no basis other than because some soccer player who may or may not have really been measured at the height is that height they claim. So he adjusts to compensate which is beyond silly.
Junior said on 26/Dec/17
@Canson
If Carmelo can re-measure between 6-7am in the morning i guage him at 199.5cm and came at his lowest should be 6'6 if he really was 6'6.25" low then he should be 200cm in the early morning so Johnson make a point only for an early morning measurement added Lebron James could be closer to 6'7.5" between 6-7am. But i wish rob would put up a page for Carmelo at 6'6.75" since most of the player here were close to 0.75" shorter than NBA drafted height because they were measure before 7am which is most people near full height upon out of bed. That explain why Scottie Pippen listed 6'7 but look at most a fraction taller than Carmelo. I can buy Pippen at lowest 199cm and Carmelo 198.5cm.
Canson said on 26/Dec/17

I can say Carmelo Anthony is 2.00 m but not over that, Rob should add a page for him because he is one of the most requested players on this site
Canson said on 14/Dec/17
@Johnson: but common sense would say no because that also puts him as tall as Paul George who’s around 6’8”. Melo for sure isn’t 6’8. I mean I’m not that dumb that I’d mistake a guy for being 6’6” when he’s 6’8. He’s similar in height with my legit 6’6” friend but maybe at best he could be 1/4” taller just because that’s 1/4” not noticeable. And That picture is not a good angle. Carmelo is st most an inch taller. I mean one person could be off by a hair but when I met Melo I had 6 people say he’s “about 2” taller than me or 1.5-2” standing next to us. That’s hard to mistake 3-4 inches with 1.5-2” standing shoulder to shoulder in a restaurant. You seem insistent on making him taller just to inflate your soccer players and Derrick Rose. Like I said it is uncommon to grow by that much after 18 and he was 19 when drafted. You can see him with Kyle Korver or Paul Milsapp even Paul pierce and he’s similar with all of them. He’s also shorter than Kevin Love and Slso Carlos Boozer. If that is what he measured at the draft he’s likely still about that. There’s a better chance when he was drafted that he may have been a fraction under that and gained to get to that. I’m 6’4.25 at my low some days others 6’4.33 so 1.5-2” is probably 6’6 1/8 min at night but could be for benefit of the doubt up to 199cm max but to me looked 198.5ish. I’ll just leave him at his draft height of 6’6.25. I can see one or two people growing but you claim Curry Rose Lebron Carmelo and others have grown which is a bit crazy Johnson. Look at Melo and Kobe In their Olympic pic when the whole team lined up with Howard in front and Melo behind Lebron you see that Kobe is 1.5” shorter than Melo.

I think he’s saying he isn’t quite the 6’4” barefoot but since he is over it in shoes or is it he claims it. Kobe is the same. He’s not quite 6’5” without but in shoes is over. Two example i had see different person claim that Ben Simmons is only 6'7-6'8 in person but draftexpress previously had him at 6'9 w/o shoes and Dwyane Wade was say to be under 6'3 or 6'2 by numbers of people claim to have met Wade and he is not over 6'2 or so. I don't think everyone is
trolling. There might be someone with honesty claiming barefoot height or someone inflating height with shoes on. Why is Kobe saying he is only 6'4 and another time he claim he is only 6'5 with sneakers? Kobe's wife Vanessa Bryant was listed 5'5 after her cheer leading days and still listed 5'5 at some site but honestly she doesn't look any taller than 5'3 although she claim 5'4 and say Kobe was 6'4.75" and 6'6 with shoes but there is no prove or video clip to show. So i do believe the editor from draftexpress was being inform to delete the databased to cover up all players real height.
Canson said on 4/Dec/17
@Johnson: don’t know why they did that. The heights were good for reference although not perfect better than the listed heights on the roster

Dillon a 6’3-6’4 would’ve had you at 6’5” prob on roster
Canson said on 20/Nov/17
@Dillon: a good friend of mine to this day who played college and high school with me is a legit 6’7” to strong 6’7”. He’s a couple years older than me. He was listed at 6’8” on our high school rosters while I was listed 6’5 for the last 3 Years of high school. Some teams change the roster heights game by game or multiple times a year but my schools stayed the same for the most. But He’s been about 6’7 probably since he graduated high school and if he grew it was very little meaning he may have been 6’6.75 and shot up to 6’7-6’7 1/8 range. At one stage in college the program had him 6’9” i think but it was before i got there. He was listed 6’8” when we played together although if you ask his height he is honest and says he is 6’7”. He doesn’t lie
Dillon said on 19/Nov/17
@Canson Oh okay did not know that. I never made the varsity high school team, but I remember trying out my senior year. When I went to get my physical at the doctor they measured me without shoes and I was between 6’3 and 4 at the time. I’m 6’5 today. Don’t know what they would have listed me as if I made the team, but the nurse just measured me barefoot.
Canson said on 18/Nov/17
@Dillon: i played high school ball and college. They for sure list in shoes and overlist depending on what position they play and sometimes more than the Pros and college as there is no “official” measurement on paper. I was listed 6’5 for my entire high school career post Freshman year. I was listed 6’4 freshman year but didn’t “officially” measure 6’4 barefoot until maybe my junior year i believe. I remember being 6’3 early sophomore year as i wasn’t even as tall as my father until around the time i got my license (my 16th Birthday). I only remember because i had 6’4” on my license and my father didn’t want to believe i was as tall as him until we stood back to back and we were exact. To Put it into perspective i played high school ball against Delonte west who was at most 6’1” back then (not much more now as he was Still 2-3” shorter last i saw him about 15 years back) and he was listed 6’3” in high school when he played and Eddie Basden his high school teammate, i believe was listed 6’5 and he like i was and we were the same height back then around 6’4 in bare feet.

@Christian: I’ve come to the conclusion that people just don’t have good perceptions of height in general. I know a guy who lives in my area that is a bartender that claims 6’4 (says he’s 6’3.75) and is some days just as tall as my legit 6’3” friend other days when he’s been on his feet can be shorter. He is forever asking people if they are an inch or two taller than they claim to be. Then when another guy told him he himself was 6’4” and he wasn’t he copped an attitude with him. I know the bt well and he has always thought I was at least 6’5” and I clearly said I’m 6’4 1/2 (gave him benefit of the doubt) and he wasn’t likely over 6’3” as he and my buddy were eye level at best

The best comparisons of him are with Brandon Roy who is about 196 (no worse than 6'5" flat) as well as Caron butler (he's a legit 196) both of whom I have met both accurately listed on their pre drafts and both edge Kobe by a tiny fraction like a .25" or a cm
Canson said on 22/Aug/17

Canson said on 22/Aug/17
@JJ: it's the other way around. If he measured 6'4 5/8 he can't be 6'7". People "assume" he's 6'7" because of the bs mugshot people use where he is as Rob mentioned above the camera level. That adds height to him. Pending footwear he could be max 6'6" in shoes if he has something with a high sole. That's only an inch and a 6'4.5 guy easily can he 6'6" in shoes. Trust me I am "about" that height myself and can easily get up 1.5" in some shoes with padding. I'd be willing to be money if I stood next to Barkley that he wouldn't edge me out noticeably maybe 1/8-1/4" whereas if I stood next to Kobe he would likely have me nearly by a cm imho. But having stood next to Caron butler he is taller than Kobe is and Kobe looks like he is 195cm next to a 196 guy whereas Barkley looks a bit shorter next to Kobe

@Christian: This is the best photo I've seen of Barkley and Jordan and not surprisingly, he has 2 cm on Jordan:
We don't have to wonder about footwear or ground as we see it there and Jordan is even closer to the camera. The shortest I'd give Jordan is 6'4.75", which makes Barkley look 6'5.5" there. In fact, Jordan could look 6'5.5" himself with a roughly 6'1" Obama, but I won't argue anything over 6'5" for Jordan either.
@Canson: Photos can definitely be off, that's why on the more controversial heights I try to limit the evidence I post to videos and full photos when possible. Of course when you don't have videos, series of photos are ideal as well. I do agree that if a measurement just doesn't look right, it probably isn't and time of day and other possible factors should be considered, but personally I need stronger evidence than anecdotes to give someone much less(or more) than they're measured. I would agree that both photos and anecdotes can be misleading. But I think I'm being pretty careful to avoid dodgy photos now. But as far as anecdotes I can tell you probably a half dozen years ago or so, this girl who either claimed 5'6.75" or 5'6.5" and was probably about what she claimed asked me how tall I was and then insisted she was taller than me. She even had me stand to up to compare and I was naturally clearly taller than her, but she still insisted somehow she was taller than me. I couldn't believe it because you'd think that after we actually compared it would have been apparent, but some people have no perception of height. What annoyed me is I asked everyone else who was around to back me up and nobody would get involved. I could understand thinking I'm a bit shorter than I am if it's a day where my arthritic knees or lower back pain are acting up, but after standing up to compare, it was inexplicable she didn't realize she was clearly shorter than me. Rest assured, I'm not another Glenn who is actually under 5'7"!

Christian-6'5 3/8 said on 21/Aug/17
@Rising
Here, Barkley's standing closer to the camera and he's still shorter than Jordan even with Jordan having worse posture.
Click Here It might've been footwear difference involved in it, but this is proof that Barkley's isn't that much taller than Jordan (who's 6'4.5") if equal footwear, because I can't think of an instance where one guy would have footwear advantage of more than an inch on another guy, unless if he was wearing lifts or platforms, which I'm sure Jordan just wouldn't do. My speculation is that Jordan wore 1.75" work boots while Barkley wore 0.75" casual shoes.
And for the pic that you posted
Click Here the stairs that the players were standing on is clearly uneven. The guys on the left half were standing on higher ground than the guys on the right, as evidenced by 6'4.5" Chris Mullin only looking 3.5" shorter than Larry Bird, making Bird look 6'8" when in actuality he's 6'9". If you look closely, you can even tell that Mullin's feet are sitting higher than Bird's. So the guys on the left had an inch advantange. This is why Barkley looked about an inch taller than Jordan.

@Christian: Actually, I have Kobe at more 6'5". I said it's possible he might drop to 6'4.75" as well, but it's also possible Vanessa made a fraction error measuring someone more than a foot taller than herself. And it's easy, Barkley and Kobe can both look taller in legit video and full picture comparisons, but Kobe sometimes looks shorter as well. Barkley almost always looks 6'5.5" to me, but Kobe can look a weak 6'5" or even 6'4.5" at times as well as 6'5.5". Barkley has more of a clear height advantage over Jordan:
Click Here while Kobe is much closer:
Click Here The difference is small enough that it could just be a footwear advantage. And if you remember those Barkley/Wade commercials from 10 years ago, Barkley was much taller than Wade. Here are a couple of stills:
Click Here If anyone wants, I can post the video those are from, but Barkley clearly seemed about a couple of inches taller. Kobe could look solidly taller than Wade at times, but other times - even in a full pic - he could struggle to look an inch taller:
I can believe Wade's 6'3.75" measurement, or at worst, he's a fraction below it, imo, which still puts Barkley around 6'5.5". At this point, I'm almost exclusively posting full pics and videos for Barkley because he's controversial enough that we have to maintain a height quality with comparisons.
Actually, Magic can look even shorter than 6'7" at times with Kobe. But I believe Harden to be 6'4" or very close to it.
@Canson: I actually agree he didn't know his exact height, otherwise, why would Vanessa bother measuring him? But I do think he probably knew he was taller than 6'4" at the time as well regardless of whether he knew his exact height.
Canson said on 16/Aug/17
@Junior: because magic and harden aren't as tall as they are advertised to be. Magic is 2-2.5" taller than Kobe and Magic is closer to 6'7 maybe a hair over than listed here. Look at Harden next to a 6'9" Dwight Howard and tell me he is really 6'4? Likely was a morning height that was rounded up to 6'4. Otherwise looks 6'3.25.
Canson said on 15/Aug/17
@Rising: but he told that kid that later in his career. He said he was 6'5" on Leno as a 19 year old. Where I heard he didn't know really how tall he was was in an article where it also mentioned he is 6'4.75 as measured by Vanessa in 2008 I believe. I think him saying he's only 6'4" was him rounding down from 6'4.75 and essentially like you said him saying he's not 6'7". He's closer to 6'5" than 6'4" I will say. But I saw on the net where he told some camp attendees that he is 6'4.5 barefoot and in shoes and triple socks 6'6".but you're right he did skip the pre draft. I believe 6'4.75 would be an afternoon height and he'd prob be close to 197 out of bed if not right there. He would likely be 195 at night or slightly under it. This is going off two or two and half hours out of bed that I lose about half inch myself.

Under 6'5.25 was a joke. 6'4 James Harden look 6'3.5 and 6'7.5" Magic Johnson look just 6'7 with Kobe.
Rising - 174 cm said on 13/Aug/17
@Canson: Kobe skipped the pre-draft camp, iirc, so it's likely they didn't bother with a precise measurement. Also, if Kobe did know exactly, it wouldn't make too much sense Vanessa would bother measuring him. That may be why Kobe told the kid he was 6'4". He may have just known he was nowhere near 6'7" and been exaggerating to make it sound like he was letting the kid on more of a secret. I tend to accept pre-draft measurements until they're proven questionable. If someone just looks nowhere near it then I'll say it was probably in the morning, a shoe measurement that got listed barefoot, included hair or some other error. I had always figured Wade was 6'3.75" and still think it's possible, but I was surprised when I started hearing jokes about Wade's height during the big 3 era. Francis always reminded me of Westbrook, or at least Westbrook is the type of player I thought Francis should have been, but it doesn't mean they're the same height of course. I think Carter looks to edge Kobe, though. Seeing Carter and Kobe with T-Mac, it's obvious he's nowhere near 6'9" or 6'10". Even Kobe called T-Mac 6'9", but that'd mean he was about 4 inches taller than Kobe. When they posed back to back, there was maybe 1.5" or something like that. Maybe T-Mac is 6'7" and slouches, but his wingspan makes people exaggerate his height, much like Durant as he's really only a 6'8" in shoes type guy, similar to Lebron.
Canson said on 11/Aug/17
@Rising: agree with what you said. I think in more likehood it's that Kobe didn't know exactly how tall he was either. He mentioned once he never exactly knew. He may not have even known he was 6'4.75. Coming up as a prospect he likely would be told he's just 6'5" in many cases as more height is better. Or possible he measured at solid 6'5 (earlier in the day) previously. I ageee he likely was boosted to 6'7" tho because of his hair and the fact that when he was he was playing the 3. That's when Eddie Jones was still there and both started. He was back to 6'6" later on. Same happened with Vince carter he was listed 6'7" before too when he played 3. But put back at 6'6" as a 2 which is why I have to believe Richard Jefferson saying he's 6'4.5-6'5" as Kobe and Vince look the same height essentially. Maybe Vince is 6'5" but doubt over that. I challenge validity of pre drafts because of what I've seen over the years such as Wall that I mentioned as well as Wade and Steve Francis. My former AAU coach has met Francis more times than I can count and he himself is 6'2" and Francis appeared shorter than him in the pics they had years back (maybe 15-20 years ago) and he even said he was about 1/2" or so shorter. Francis has a 6'2.5. Think he's an inch shorter. Of course this isn't all pre drafts but some. I don't know how this was done in all cases but I've heard of thicker socks etc or could be
Bust a Gut like rob likes to call it. Francis looks that way on the court as well when he played didn't strike me as being as tall as a guy like Russell Westbrook or Jarrett Jack the latter I've played against and he's actually a legit 188-189 guy so close enough to the 6'2.5 as he's easily a guy who may more likely be over 6'2" rather than under it
Rising - 174 cm said on 10/Aug/17
It gets harder to pinpoint a height difference when the difference is a half foot or bigger, but I see over 6, possibly 7 inches between Kobe and Leno. That explains why Kobe was listed 6'7" for a few years(was it 1999-2002?) I agree with 179-180 as a likely range for Leno. I wouldn't go over a flat 5'11", but there was always a debate with Jay. Some insisted he was the perfect example of a 5'11" man while others always thought he was closer to 5'10". I really don't know myself, to be honest, but I'd be pretty surprised if he wasn't at least 5'10.5" peak and I'd also be surprised if he was taller than a flat 5'11" in the afternoon. 6 feet is just the height Leno always claimed to be. People around 5'11" will claim that 9 times out of 10 as you see from Leo DiCaprio, Joe Mantegna and others. A 5'11" claim is often a hint they're really shorter than a full 5'11". I think Kobe is about 6'5" in all likelihood. There are times he manages to look taller, more in that 6'5.5"+ range, but he has looked no more than his 195 cm measurement by his wife, such as these 3 pics with Dwyane Wade:
Click Here First 2 are from 2007 and the last one looks like 2009. Keep in mind, I'm even accepting Wade's 6'3.75" measurement in this comparison since Kobe winds up looking an inch at most taller in these 3 pics. I guess the taller and relatively shorter appearances cancel each other out. If anything, I'd reverse Kobe and Jordan's listings, though as I think they looked nearly identical side by side, but would have guessed Kobe was the taller one if they weren't the same exact height. Regardless Canson is right in that claiming 6'5" doesn't contradict the 6'4.75" as many will round up even half inches and the vast majority will round up a quarter inch.

@SJH: I highly doubt Leno was really 6'0". Maybe 5'10.5 or 5'11. Weak 5'11 which he can look with Kobe

@Canson
More than i have to agree it and a 19 years old Kobe making a peak Jay Leno look no more than 5'10.25
Canson said on 2/Aug/17
maybe he got measured at 6'5" before (a few hours earlier in the AM) and measured the 6'4.75 later in the afternoon or it could've been a round up. Face it there is no diff in appearance if not any objects to compare him to. A 195cm guy is gonna claim 6'5" 9 out of 10 times as is a legit 6'5". But leads me to believe he's really about 195 at his lowest vs an earlier and can look a good example of 195cm

Editor Rob
all of a sudden 6-7...I presume with the hair 😑
Canson said on 31/Jul/17
Kobe 195 afternoon maybe evening
Jordan 194-194.5 at his lowest
Barkley 194.3-194.7 at his low
Canson said on 17/Jul/17
@Christian: that's how I see it too. Kobe appears taller almost always in pics. If Jordan were your height (strong 6'5") Reggie Miller would be closer in height with him and wouldn't class him as 6'4/6'5 like he did. Miller looks a sub 6'6" next to Jalen Rose or Penny Hardaway both of which messueed 6'6" on their pre drafts (I'd presume that's a low for rose tho).
Christian-196.5cm (6ft5 3/8) said on 17/Jul/17
I don't get why some are still saying that Jordan's taller than Kobe, maybe they just base it on Rob's listing of the two, which I have to disagree. I think Kobe's a fraction inch taller than MJ.
Canson said on 14/Jul/17
I'd say Kobe as listed 6'4.75 and Jordan 6'4.5. Kobe actually looks more like 1/2" taller at times. Jordan just was bigger later in his career and longer limbs which makes him appear taller than he is. I can see Kobe being taller in person than me if I were to see him but MJ I prob wouldn't be able to tell.
Brad said on 12/Jul/17
Jordan is a strong 6' 5". I'd see MJ edging him out by a fraction. I wonder what job he'll be at next season.
Canson said on 11/Jul/17
Meant to say don't see Jordan taller than Kobe.
Canson said on 10/Jul/17
@Brad: i don't see Jordan shorter than Kobe. even if it is as Rob has them that's 1/4" difference so not noticeable. Kobe from what some say looks 6'5 whereas Jordan is guessed by some 6'4" range.

I saw the best baller ever at a small court just north of Bleeker on 6th in NYC in '76. Joe Destroyer Hammond. A pass the hat game. He tore it up...big time, even as a druggy. The Lakers should have offered more money than 50G in '71. Lies about his height, 6' 3" no way, Kobe eats him up side to side. Kobe is shorter than MJ...Barkley is tough to call, he gained weight and his height went down.
Canson said on 8/Jul/17
@Brad: agree on him think he'd edge MJ back to back or Barkley
Brad said on 7/Jul/17
As listed.

@Christian: I thought he was but you raise a great point sometimes he can appear maybe weak 6'3 but maybe angle. But I will say LOL, if he's under that's really bad news for Deangelo Russell. His leer draft shows 6'3.25 and he's shorter than Silver very noticeably which is why I always say that I don't trust the pre drafts esp when Silver has come out and said he's himself is 6'3" not any higher and you're right could be a hair less too
Christian-196.5cm (6ft5 3/8) said on 23/Jun/17
@Canson
Do you think that Silver is even a legit 6'3"? He looks a bit under it, just my two cents.
Canson said on 22/Jun/17
@Christian: that's actually a good thing it was progressive as it makes it easier to adjust and ease into your body. 6'5" is a lot to support.
On a side note: did you see the draft? Lol all these guys that come up and stand next to Adam Silver who's 6'3! Some of these supposed 6'4 or 6'5 guys look his height that I've seen
Spencer said on 22/Jun/17

Christian-196.5cm (6ft5 3/8) said on 22/Jun/17
@Canson
Yeah I never had a sudden major spurt. I grew steadily for the most part.
Canson said on 21/Jun/17
@Christian: you grew actually pretty evenly spread! I was around about 5'3 in 5th grade, then was prob 5'6 around beginning of 7th or end of 6th grade. I shot up to 5'11 right after my 13th birthday I believe, then was 6'0" midway maybe Fall my 8th grade year I believe and maybe 6'1" when I graduated Middle School. Then in high school hit 6'2 as a freshman and was 6'3.5-6'4 by early junior year I think and a legit 6'4" midway through. I always figured I was done growing at 6'4". Funniest part is most of my measurements I believe were typically either later morning (3-5 hours out of bed) or maybe afternoon so even a 6'4 measurement may still net me 6'3.75 lol. But the 6'4" was prob spot on at that point as I was exactly the same height as my Dad then when we stood back to back. I remember being 6'4 still my senior year (I think) then maybe grew a hair as I was a hair over him around end my freshman year of college where I was supposedly 6'4 1/2. But was 6'4.75 like an hour or less out of bed next time I measured either during the summer or my sophomore year. I think by then I had finished though at 18. You must have grown a lot after your senior year in high school into Your early college! That's 2-2.5" which is a lot. When I was a kid I always wanted to be 6'5" at one point then got into high school and played forward and some guard and actually was thinking I'm cool at 6'4" and was happy since I could still play guard at that size and be a Good size for a 2. i do agree with what you said tho as I also agree with my taller friends that 6'3" is almost perfect for a tall person and if any taller 6'4 is ideal. And 6'5" is about as good as it gets for most if they want to be very tall because you can wear Timbs etc and not have many doorway problems (my 6'5 and change friend also wears them some days himself but really only when it's cold or he is around people his height or taller like the others we hang with). Generally I've also seen him in flats or Casual shoes as well. He doesn't complain about his height like the other two though lol and he wakes up somewhere over 6'6" in the morning from what he said too and is around your height 196.2-.5
Christian-196.5cm (6ft5 3/8) said on 21/Jun/17
@Canson
I never played ball in college myself, only did from the 7th grade to my junior year in high school. Not saying I didn't enjoy playing ball, but I started to focus on other things, and I felt that going on to become a college or pro basketball player wasn't the ideal choice for my future. Anyways, I played mostly small or power forward because I was mostly one of the tallests in my class (about 5'9" in 7th grade then grew to 6'3" in the 11th, and I kept on growing until my freshman year in college when I was 19).
Btw, what was your growing pattern like Canson? I remember you once said you were 6'0" at 13 yrs old, which is even taller than me because I was only 5'9"-5'10" at that age.
Canson said on 20/Jun/17
@Christian: I played both, but a lot more at small forward in the last couple years. It was a smaller school. But when I played guard mostly in my freshman year I was listed 6'5" initially and think I was maybe a true strong 6'4" barefoot then. I was boosted to 6'6" well before the midway point of the season and was that the remainder of my time. I measured 6'4.5 in the morning at that point like an hour out of bed or two hours out the first year.I also got measured 6'4.75 another time then 6'4.5 again (may have been later in the day). I didn't realize it varied back then I assumed it was a bad measurement the 6'4.75 as I was never more than maybe 1/2" taller than my father and at times it appeared closer. I was 6'4" my senior year of high school and still claimed and thought it was all I was. I played 3 mostly in high school.
when I first got here on the site, I initially thought I was 194-195 as I didn't measure properly (or because my hair was a bit longer than last summer) when I got 194 flat and have continuously gotten that in the afternoon since. May also the fact that I measured on free days where I was laying around some and didn't know my actual low until I measured on a day when I had been at work.
As for guys like Iggy he played both for a while. I remember when philly drafted Kyle Korver and he played interchangeably with Iggy . I'm curious as to how tall Iggy is. He can look a weak or even full 6'6" barefoot because of how he is built but Height pointed out once that he thought he was shorter than draymond and I saw it now that they maybe similar. But when I see Iggy with Chris Webber it's at most (imho) a 3" difference. I estimate Webber more 6'8.5 than a full 6'9" only because I've heard people that have seen him say he's 6'8-6'9 in person and saw Mo Cheeks refer to that when he was benched in favor of Dalembert when he was in Philly not to mention guys like Spencer Haywood say he's not as tall as he expected him to be (maybe assuming he was really 6'10). Barkley I thought all along (at least since I heard and saw him admit that he was 6'4") but the 6'4" is him just saying he's not really 6'6". He's not as flat as 193. Rob's listing could fit him actually just as for your case you use the 196.5 listing he may only drop to 6'4 5/8 or at worst 1/2". Same with LJ and Spoon too both are small as power forwards. LJ when I met him in college and my 6'5" friend also met him when he played ball and he said they were identical and looked each other in the eye and another buddy of ours that's legit 6'6" (may have been a hair over peak) (the two of them went to college together) said they were the same and that he felt LJ was closer to 6'5 than 6'6. My friend also classes his official height as 6'5.25 like you did as I believe the doctor got him around that and maybe rounded down from 196.3ish in the evening. LJ looked max an inch taller than Me. But I'd say he's 196 range for sure at his lowest and 6'5.5 could be a small hair roundup or a couple hours earlier in the day. I won't hesitate to say he's also 196-196.5 like you are. He also met Witherspoon and said that they were also "about" the same height. He said Spoon shorter in person than on tv. Which makes sense because Spoon was always said to be closed to 6'5 than 6'7.Both were listed 6'7" in their careers.

Were you a shooting guard during your college days? I'm assuming so because most guys your height play the SG position, although there have been rare cases where 6'6" listed (your height) guys played small forward, such as Andre Iguodala from the Warriors, and even rarer the power forward position, such as Barkley.
Canson said on 20/Jun/17
@Christian: that's correct. Jordan is an example he could be just about 6'6" in a sneaker even afternoon and if he measured a bit earlier would for sure. Also tho when it comes to NBA we saw it with the Blake Griffin video they get measured within 1/2 hour or hour of waking now a days (he got measured around 630 as did steph curry tweeted that year). In your case you most likely would get a 6'7 measurement today as you'd prob get morning 6'5 3/4 and maybe 6'7 1/8 in sneaks maybe a 1/4" over or if afternoon you were right on the money 6'6.75. Is be listed 6'6" like I was in college as I'd get 6'4.75 am hour out then 6'6ish in sneaks or even if I got 6'4 3/8 they'd list it as 6'4.5 then In sneaks 6'5.75 or up then round. If I were maybe a power forward or small forward and expected to be that in the league I could even get listed 6'7" possibly

I think the reason why NBA heights weren't inflated as much in the early and mid-1900's compared to nowadays, is because of the type of shoes. Back in the day, the standard basketball sneaks were much thinner than they are today. Most players in the mid-1900's wore Converse All Stars, which gives about 0.6" inch of height, compared to today's sneaks that give 1.3-1.4" some even 1.5"+ For example, if I was a NBA player I would've been listed 6'6" back in the day because I would be no more than 6'6" in my Converse, whereas today I would very likely be listed 6'7" because modern bball shoes would take me at least 6'6 5/8" or 6'6.75" which is then rounded up to 6'7".

@Rising Force: I see what you're saying but Pierce was not listed 6'6" for long at all. It wasn't that late in his career with KG coming was well before that. He was 6'7" for the bulk of it. Carter I can't remember now but believe it was when He began playing guard permanently maybe after TMAC left. But Pierce He's a full inch over Carter. Carter with Dr J wasn't as tall as he was whereas Truth was prob taller than Dr J was. I remember Richard Jefferson saying Vince was 6'4 1/2, 6'5" on a good day. I'd say he's taller than I am by a hair maybe up to the full 6'5" probably more like Kobes height of 195cm.
I agree with most of your post though. They have become more inflated over time but even in Barkley's day they were inflated as well. At least listed in shoes. Magic strong 6'7" listed 6'9. Rodman strong 6'6" or 6'6.5 listed 6'8, Jordan 6'4.5 listed 6'6 ditto for Barkley Kevin Willis 6'10 (I've met Willis before) listed 7'0". Then of course Larry Johnson (met him as well and he's at most an inch taller than me) I'd say between 6'5.25-6'5.5 and listed 6'7".

I didn't say he never got listed 6'7" before, I think he was listed 6'7" in Kansas and entering the league. I just meant he was at 6'6" for years, definitely more than a year, much like Vince Carter was 6'7" his first few years, but they dropped him to 6'6" sometime after. Pierce was upgraded again when Garnett was traded to Boston, though Carter remained at 6'6". Carter of course was half an inch shorter, but I'm more making the comparison that both were listed 6'7" and then 6'6". Pierce was primarily playing 2 for most of the early 2000s when 'Toine was there. Might have been 3 in 2001, but then 2 in '02, '03 and '04. But I think you're forgetting that heights have gotten more inflated over time. Even now they're much more inflated for the most part than the 90s/early 2000s with the exception of an excessive case like 6'2" John Starks being listed 6'5". When Barkley entered the league in 1984 for instance, a lot of heights were pretty close or mere round ups and basketball sneakers weren't as thick in general.
Canson said on 16/Jun/17
That would be false Rising Force. He was listed 6'6" for maybe a year when Ron mercer was still there and started with him because Truth played 2 and 3 back then. He's been listed 6'7" as far back as 1999

Well Paul Pierce was listed barefoot for a decade so it happens. I agree it's not the norm.

Rising force: for a short period of time with Howard. I always saw 6'7" for him and still do today. I don't know how tall he is. Maybe he requested they use his barefoot height just like Durant does. That much is a fact as he told the trainers (it's on the internet). Garnett does the same uses barefoot height. I understand what you are saying but you're using that as a blanket because he was listed that barefoot that others are
