Ozzy what newspaper/website/magazine was Howard's 6'9.5" claim in because I could buy that? Also around what time was that claim? I think I saw it on this site around mid 2006 but I never remember anyone posting the source.
Ozzy said on 25/May/08
Think he's closer to 6'8 than 6'7, but no way 6'9. I don't think Howard has grown that much since the 6'9 measuring. Remember he claimed 6'9.5 at one time, but it might be a stretch. I've seen Kobe claim 6'4 before, and his wife said she measured him at home at 6'4.75. He also said "I'm probably 6'5 in sneaks." Ed: how about a basketball-tread instead of all these player-threads taken you really do not want to much sports-related stuff here? Or am I wrong?

Lebron was measured 6-7 1/4 barefoot and 6-8 even in shoes when he was drafted. I heard he grew over the summer to 6-8 3/4 in shoes. That would make him 6-8 even at the time and that looks very accurate here with Darius Miles who measured 6-8 barefoot out of highschool at the pre-draft camp in 2000.
Click HereLebron is atleast as tall as Miles.
I'm not sure I buy Lebron's 6'9" claim though.

ad Shaq is 7'1'' post from April 28th: Well, I may be fighting a losing battle(I mean the draftexpress link) but I'd put my money Shaq hasn't been a legit 7'1'' barefoot. Something stinks here. I haven't met him in person nor did his height measurements so my counter-arguments are based on my observation only; I have been watching him and his game from his very first games in the NBA, through the 1994 Basketball WC, 1996 Olympic Games until now and it has always been obvious to me his listed height doesn't match the real one (also, notice his own words of not being a legit seven-footer but under, plus the huge basketball lifts he's been wearing). My principal observation: a hell of a player, so dominant and athletic, one of a kind indeed although I have never liked his ugly shooting technique.

Lebron doesn't look much shorter than 6'9.5" Joe Smith or Dwight Howard but he struggles at 6'7" next to 6'4.75" Kobe Bryant.
Click Here Click Here I can't figure that out because I think 6'4.75" is accurate for Kobe because he has also claimed 6'4" and he has at best an inch on 6'3.75" Dwyane Wade. Kobe also looks not much above 6'4" flat next to 6'7" Magic Johnson.
Here are all of the pictures of Lebron and Dwight with decent angles.
Click HereClick HereClick HereClick HereClick HereAt best Dwight is an inch taller than Lebron so that eliminates 6'10" for Dwight unless Lebron is 6'9". Dwight was measured at 6'9" in 2004 so if he hasn't grown then I'd say 6'8" seems accurate for Lebron.
On the subject of Dwight's however I remember this 2004 ESPN article describes him as growing "nearly an inch" in summer workouts.
Click Here That probably means 3/4 of an inch but we don't know if he truly did grow or if that is just BS like the rumors of Amir Johnson growing to 6'11.5".
I also remember about a year or 2 ago on this site many people claimed Dwight said he was 6'9.5" in an interview. Can anyone can confirm that and remember what interview that was?

Funny how all these US basketball players shrink once coming to Europe. Coaches over here scratch their heads when a 6'9'' center turns out to be a 6'6''-ish jumping jack. People, can't you see they're all measured in shoes and lie about their height for... whatever reason?
Besides, when I was in the US I was astonished you are a medium height society, I really thought you were bigger - same goes for bball players. Oh, and no-one, but no-one, can estimate once height correctly. Period.
Oh, just to make it a valid post: LeBron is 6'7''-ish (barefoot) and Shaq is around 7 feet (barefoot). It's still barefoot that counts, isn't it?

This is what I think right now.
1.Well we know he measured 6'7.25" barefoot and 6'8" in shoes when he was drafted in 2003.
2.It was reported he grew 3/4 of an inch prior to playing in his first NBA game and was by that time 6-8 3/4 in shoes so 6-8 barefoot.
3.Now it's being reported he's grown an additional half inch
4.He's claimed 6'9" and 6'7" as his height
So assuming he never grew anymore than what was reported he is 6'8.5" barefoot although I'm not sure I see him that tall.
I need more evidence to give a good opinion about Lebron's height.
Edd said on 6/Apr/08
Today on ESPN sports center, they were talking about how Lebron James is having back problems and it was noted that Lebron grew half an inch, which would have him almost 6-8 barefoot and 6-9 in shoes. I guess that is why Lebron has been claiming that he is 6-9.

I doubt they bump up the weights. Carmelo was 233 at 6'6.25" so 245 at the time and 6'7.25" sounded right for Lebron.
Keep in mind Lebron was saying 260 before the season so I believe him and he may be telling the truth when he says he's only 6'7" because he can still look that height but no way is he 240.
Kevin Durant was exactly 6'9" and 215 at last years pre-draft camp and Lebron easily has 45 pounds on him. I'd say Carmelo is close to 250 aswell.

Zo was already 6'9" at the 1988 Olympics
One useful feature of the trials is that players are measured and weighed, rather than listed at their media-guide sizes, which are usually inflated. Thus, David Robinson, heretofore listed at 7-1, 235, is down to 7-0, 226. Danny Manning, once listed at 6-11, is now 6-9. Georgetown recruit [Alonzo Mourning], once 6-11 or 6-10 at Indian River High in Chesapeake, Va., is down to 6-9, 230

The fact there was a measurement released in 1992 stating O'Neal at 7'1", 303 lbs with a 7'7" wingspan and a 9'5"
Standing Reach along with 12.2% body fat. Not to mention I have links backing up 2 of Shaq's 7'1" claims aswell as a video of him when he was just 17 saying he's not 6'11" but already 7 foot even.
All of that contradicts any supposed 6'11.5" claim.

Don't any of you remember Lebron's first game in Sacramento in 2003? The announcer said Lebron was 6-8 3/4 in shoes. Well 5 months earlier at the pre-draft camp he measured 6-7 1/4 barefoot and 6-8 in shoes. So 6-8 3/4 minus 3/4" for shoes equals 6-8. Lebron is 6-8 unless he grew some more.

Shaq is 7'1" said on 15/Mar/08
By the way now Lebron is claimg "6-7, 240") but somethings weird about that. He may still be 6'7.25" but he was already 245 lbs at the 2003 pre-draft camp so he was probably telling the truth about being 260 lbs.
After James' big game in New York, he spoke of being 6-9, 260, which is taller and heavier than his listed size (6-8, 250). Asked about that before the game, James replied with a smile that he is 6-7, 240. A reporter joked that James was already that big in high school but James refused to budge, albeit with a huge smile on his face. I suppose that, like Bill Walton and others who did not want to be listed as 7-footers, James prefers to retain whatever mystique there may be about his listed dimensions as opposed to acknowledging what anyone who has seen him close up realizes: James is bigger than his listed size.
Click HereJames said he wasn't because of his 6-9, 260-pound frame. He is, however, listed at 6-8, 240 pounds. When asked prior to Monday's game about his actual size, a smiling James said kiddingly: "I'm 6-7, 240. I just felt that big [6-9, 260]."
Click HereDuring an interview last week, James said he was 6-foot-9 and 260 pounds, which caught some off guard since he is listed at 6-8 and 250. When he came into the NBA, his official size at the predraft workouts was 6-8, 240. The Cavs added 10 pounds to the roster last season. But James jokingly backed down Monday, saying: ''I'm 6-7, 240.'' The 6-9, 260 figure is probably close to accurate. Not that rosters mean much, Zydrunas Ilgauskas has been listed at 7-3 for years, but he says he is 7-2.
Click HereWho knows how tall Lebron is now. He could still be 6'7.25" but I will bet any amount of money he is around 260 lbs and not 240. There is no way he is 5 pounds lighter than his rookie weight.
Shaq is 7'1" said on 15/Mar/08
I have posted a link to Zo measuring 6'9" before the 88' Olympics and 6'9.5" before the 92' pre-draft camp. What link do you have to Mourning's 6'8.5" claim? Please by all means post any link you have. As for which time Shaq was telling the truth well he claimed 7'1" back in 1992 and sometime around 2006 so that would point to 7'1" being correct. Also a barely 17 yr old O'Neal pointed out he was not 6-11 but 7 foot even. All 3 statements contradict any supposed 6'11.5" claim. Stick to the Shaq page when talking about Shaq's height though.

It's well documented Bynum grew from 7'0.25" to 7'1". The Lakers have measured him 7'1" and he looks it on the court. Tyson Chandler also claims he grew since entering the league but says he doesn't measure himself. He says he's listed at 7'1" and he'll leave it at that.

I was at the Knicks game Wednesday night and had good enough seats to get down to the court. I'm 6'6.5" barefoot and Lebron was about an inch to inch and a half taller than me. Obviously there could be a difference due to shoes, but he was pretty big. He's slightly taller than Ben Wallace, maybe a quarter inch to half inch taller and he's listed at 6'9.
On a side note, Damon Jones who's listed at 6'3 looked about 6'0 to 6'1 tops. Nate Robinson while I didn't get to the Knicks side of the court, looks like he's 5'7. My wife appeared taller than him. It may have been because he was next to some big guys though.
Shaq is 7'1" said on 7/Mar/08
Bynum is a legit 7'1" he looks about the same height as Kareem now who was 7-1 5/8 in his prime. The Lakers have also measured Bynum at 7'1" several times and he was already 7'0.25" when he was drafted.
This is what Tyson said about his height.
Q: I have to be honest. When you're wearing the Hornets' yellow uniforms, you look taller to me. Have you grown since last season?
A: I've been growing since I've been in the league. You're not the first person to tell me that. But I'm not even going to measure myself. I don't even want to know. I'm [listed at] 7-1. I'm going to leave it there.
Click HereBynum is probably a legit 7'1" while Tyson is probably close to that but looks taller because he is much thinner. Where did you hear Josh Smith grew? I read in a 2004 article on espn that Dwight Howard had grown "almost an inch" so 6-9 3/4 sounds accurate maybe even a bit taller. As for Bynum I have atleast 4-5 articles to back up his height.

Shaq is 7'1" said on 18/Feb/08
Barkley is 6'4 5/8" and I agree Chuck does look much taller but Barkley could be wearing bigger footwear. We know for a fact Wade measured 6'3.75" barefoot in 2003 and Barkley measured 6'4 5/8" barefoot in 1992 while Kobe was measured 6'4.75" by his wife not too long ago. Wade's shoes only add one inch while Kobe's could add 1.25" or 1.5" Kobe is also much thinner than Wade so he could appear taller as a result. Wade has been around 212-216 his whole career but it is reported he is over 230 now while Kobe is just 205 plus sometimes Kobe appears to have less than an inch on Wade like in this picture although Wade has slightly better posture.

Francis said on 18/Feb/08
Dwayne Wade dosen't look 6'3.75"(bare foot). He often looks 1-1.5 inches shorter than Kobe who is about 6'4.75"-6'5" tall bare foot. In one of the T-mobile commercial with Charles Barkely, he looks 1.5-2inches shorter.
Shaq is 7'1" said on 17/Feb/08
btw Dwight looked over 6'10" today next to Gerald Green. Green measured 6'6" right out of high school but I tend to believe he is more like 6'6.5" or 6'7" now. Dwight easily had 4"-4.5" on him.

Shaq is 7'1" said on 15/Feb/08
Sounds accurate I just need some kind of link or source before I consider Dwight 6-10 or over. Lebron has stated he has grown and Brian Windhorst who writes articles for the Cavs said he is 6'8 3/4" in shoes now and considering he entered the NBA at 6'7 1/4" barefoot and 6'8" in shoes that would make him 6'8" barefoot now.
BigBen said on 15/Feb/08
Howard looks 6'10 barefoot now, and 270 - 280 pounds.
Shaq is 7'1" said on 15/Feb/08
Dwight probably is 6'10" barefoot now. He is atleast the 270 he claims and maybe more. Legit 7'1" Shaq weighed 303 at the 1992 pre-draft camp so I doubt Dwight is 30 pounds less than rookie Shaq even if he is atleast 3-4 inches shorter. I'd guess Dwight is 6-10 and 275 atleast. LMFAO at Anonymous saying MJ looks 6-3. Howard was only 18 when he measured 6'9" so he could have grown another inch or 2. He can't still be just 6'9"..can he?

Shaq is 7'1" said on 29/Jan/08
I'll go with 6'8" barefoot for Lebron although you are right he can look huge at times. Lebron was interviewed and the interviewer said 'what are you 6-9 and 250 now?' and Lebron said 'No 260 I'm still growing'. The 6'8.75" in shoes measurement sounds right. He was 6'7.25" barefoot and 6'8" in shoes when he entered the NBA so he'd be 6'8" barefoot if he was 6'8.75" in shoes. As for Dwight he easily looks 6'10" barefoot on the court and next to post players but I saw a picture from this 2007-2008 season where Dwight was on both of his tip toes and Shaq was leaning but Shaq still looked about 2 inches taller. Not to mention Dwight was closer to the camera. Here is that picture.
Click HereDwight was slouching so maybe he could have had 2 inches on 6-8 Lebron if they were standing up straight. You could be right about Howard there is also some reasonable doubt for that and I haven't heard it myself.
Anyway here is Shaq hunched over with Dwight closer to the camera standing up straight and Shaq is still taller.
Click HereShaq however was measured at 7'1" barefoot and 7'2.75" in shoes back when he was drafted so he does have bigger shoes than Dwight who wore shoes that added 1.25" inches and you can also see illusions in pictures so maybe Dwight is a legit 6-10 barefoot now. However here are just a few more things contradicting that.
Dwight and Chris Bosh who measured 6'10.25" barefoot and 6'11.5" in shoes at the 2003 pre-draft camp
Click HereClick HereClick HereOf course we don't know if Bosh grew either because Bosh was just 19 when he was measured and he also looked taller than Andrea Bargnani who I believe is like 6'10" or 6'10.5"
Dwight and 6'5.5" Vince Carter
Click HereAlthough Dwight seems to be slouching a bit. I still don't see 4.5" inches there although maybe I would if Dwight weren't looking down.
Finally ain 2006 Dwight said he was barely 6-10 in shoes although he was still just 20 then. Kevin Garnett was measured 6-10 barefoot in 1995 at 19 years old and he grew to 6'11.25" so Dwight could have grown.
Again I am not saying you are wrong about Dwight I am just posting all the evidence I can because I am not sure either but it is easier to have an idea if you have all the evidence. Dwight can look 6-10 barefoot so who knows? Even if Dwight is still 6-9 barefoot with his 7'4.25" wingspan, 9'3.5"
Standing Reach, 270-280 pound frame, 39 inch vertical he can play like a legit 7-1 guy. If you find anymore evidence about Dwight's height be sure to post it because I am curious about this too.
BigBen said on 28/Jan/08
Honestly that one with Dwight Howard, I heard that from a friend, so that could be very wrong. I hope he will still grow a little, but he is older now so...
I don't know if maybe Lebron could be as tall as 6'8.5 barefoot. I just think he looks so huge.
I said that Kobe and MJ were 6'4.5 barefoot, so "Shaq is 7'1" when You say
6'4 3/4" for Kobe and 6'4 7/8" for MJ, I agree with that.
Shaq is 7'1" said on 27/Jan/08
Nice post bigben but Kobe's wife Vanessa measured him at 6'4 3/4" and that sounds right even though Kobe thought he was around just 6-5 in shoes. I heard Jordan measured 6'4 7/8" barefoot in 1984 and considering him and Kobe looked almost the exact same height so MJ being 1/8 of an inch taller is not hard to believe. Where did you get that info about Lebron and Dwight BigBen? I believe that about Lebron because he looks 6-8 barefoot but Shaq towers over Dwight by 4 or more inches. BTW here is a link to Bryant's wife measuring him 6'4 3/4"
'Upon meeting Bryant two Fridays ago, O'Neal Mitchell of Tenaha, Texas, surmised that Bryant wasn't as tall as advertised. Bryant, listed at 6-foot-7 when he entered the NBA and now listed at 6-6 (without the Afro, apparently), came clean with a grin: "I'm probably 6-5 in sneaks."
Bryant's wife, Vanessa, was there and had prodded him by saying she suspected the same thing
BigBen said on 24/Jan/08
Lebron is 6'9 in shoes now, and Dwight is 6'10 barefoot now, and 6'11.5 with shoes. Billups listed height is his real height 6'3 (191 cm). His is one of the few who use barefoot height.
Both Kobe and MJ are at the very most 6'5.5, but I say no more than 6'4.5 barefoot. On Real NBA Height, You can see Kobe standing back to back with Wade who is 6'3.75 (192 cm) barefoot, and Kobe is just very little over that, and admidts that he is no more than 6'4. I have also heard 6'4 for MJ.

Lebron measured at 6'7 1/4, barefoot, before the NBA draft (I think they measure in the AM when everyone measures taller than at night. Try it out yourself). Carmelo measured exactly one inch shorter at 6'6 1/4 barefoot. Both players are listed at 6'8 although typically Carmelo would be more accurate at 6'6 14 barefoot being listed 6'8in terms of an NBA players listed height than Lebron at 6'7 1/4 barefoot usually would get a 6'9 listing. I have looked at all the NBA pre draft measurements for a number of years now and on average players will be listed about 1 to 1.5 inches taller than their barefoot height with a fe only being only 1/2 inch theodoros plakadopoulos or less off with some on the other tplay nikos extreme listed up to 2/5 inches taller than their barefoot measurements such as Delonte West of the Celtics who is 6-1 1/2 barefoot and is listed at 6-4 meaning he is listed even an inch higher than his shoe height of about 6-3.
Here are some other measurements from the Olympics
Richard Jefferson 6-6
Shawn Marion 6 6 1/4
Stephon Marbury 6-0 1/4
Allen Iverson 5- 11
Manu Ginobili 6-5

That pic of LeBron with Kobe where he (Kobe) looks only 1 - 1.5 inches tops shorter is surprising. Maybe it's the shoes ...... because Kobe is certainly not over 6'5" (and that's being a little generous to Kobe) compared to 6'3 3/4" Wade, the "NBA real heights" site has the nerve to claim that they are around the same height.

In regard to my last comment, I made a few typing mistakes. For one, a relatively few number of NBA players are listed up to 2.5 or 2 1/2 inches taller than their barefoot heights such as Boston Celtic guard Delonte West who measured at 6'1 1/2 barefoot at the official NBA pre draft camp measurements but is listed at 6'4. On average, most guys are listed about 1.25 to 1.5 inches taller than their barefoot heights.

Rip Hamilton looks 6'5...until you compare him to "6'7" Caron Butler (who looks maybe 6'5 barefoot), and Hamilton easily has 1.5 to 2 inches on him. Rip's frame is deceptive (very narrow), so you can't get a gauge of his height until you compare him to other players.

They should list NBA players by their height with shoes on, when u play on the court ya not barefoot, so wats the sense of listing yourself without shoes. When evrytime you are playing you have shoes on. if your 6'6 without shoes, and when u put on shoes your 6'8, well then ya 6'8. when u playin thats the height you're at
Editor Rob
everybody is equalized barefoot, but since the 'bigger the better' in basketball, I can understand why they do this and round up aswell.
do you see footballers listed in 1.3 inch soccer boots, athletes in spikes etc?
Trainers, as can be seen with the nba camp measurements can give 1 - 1.5 inches, so some players would vary their heights with different trainer brands/styles on 'the court'.

Click Hereu can clearly see if ben wallce is 6'9 than leBron's 6'10 but we know ben's about 6'7 so lebron seems to have and inch maybe .5i'd say 6'7.5 tops.

He looks 6'7-6'7.5. How old is he by the way since he might still be growing?

this thing is weird cause he 6'8 look n e where iunno for some reason u guys always take height off some people but he 6'8
Editor Rob
he's on nba.com as 6ft 7.25 ;-) They list him 6ft 8 (with shoes).
Shoes don't count with height...barefoot is the only true leveller of a man's stature

Beaner:
Its Richard Hamilton anyway and his nickname is "Rip".
Ball-A-Hallic said on 25/May/06
Ray allen is supposibly 6'3.5 maybe 6'4 but u can just tell rip gotta be 6'4 tops
Beaner said on 25/May/06
wtf is Rip Hamilton... It's Rick Hamilton unless it's a trend in Detroit to call him Rip. Other than that, it's incorrect.

I don't think lebron has grown. They always say that about fairly young players to justify listing them taller. You can tell by his frame that lebron is finished developing physically. Rip hamilton is the most "overlisted" player in the nba. I've seen him stand next to Ray Allen (listed at 6'5, but looked shorter and Ray was listed at a tad under 6'4 in the olympics) andthey looked pretty much the exact same height... go figure. I don't know but I estimate Rip at 6'4.5 (194) and lebron at 6'7.5 (202). And still, whether they said he was still growing, it is hard to say how fast and when they'll stop. My brother got the offer of stopping his heiht cause it was estimated to 6'8, he's fairly tall at 6'5.25, but still far off the estimate...

I e-mailed the site with LeBron's height. That was his measurement at the 2003 pre draft. He may have grown a hair since but no way is he 6'8". Also, Rip is somewhere between 6'3" and 6'5" and he is not 195 pounds. Chauncey is 200 and is way more buff.

Thanks 4 adding LeBron he's defently gotta be a solid 6'7 he towered Rip Hamilt(listed at 6'7 also) by atleast 4 inches)

I read that LeBron is still growing (after the 6'7 1/4'' measurement). Whether it's true is another thing...
