@berta: See the post on 20/Nov/21, Dolph is definitely still taller than Lou even though his height loss was more noticeable. Dolph was walking around in pain for years before his hip replacements in 2017 and it showed in his posture, particularly with much shorter men. But since then, Dolph will sometimes stand decently with other tall men and often looks a solid 6'3" again. Their current listings should be reversed with Ferrigno not more than 6'2.5" or 189 cm compared to Lundgren who would still measure at least 190 cm, imo. It's possible Dolph first shrunk a small fraction between 40-45 since his back injuries date back to the 80s, but 45-50 is when his posture got significantly worse and it was noticeable he shrunk at least 1-2 cm. Maybe he hung on to 193 cm until about 50, but his height loss was obvious by his 50s at 192 cm max age 50-55, or apparently 191.5 cm by Expendables 2. But looked his shortest between 55-60 when he was also in the worst pain according to Dolph.

It'd be interesting to see them in the mid-1980s when I believe they trained together. Dolph was definitely a legit 6'4" back then and more solidly in that range, but he can be confusing. Sometimes I think he was just 193 cm, but never lower peak, but after Matthias Hues emphasized how identical they were in height, I remember how often Dolph could look 194-195 cm in the 80s and through the 90s. He looked every bit of 195 cm if Brandon Lee was really 182 cm and again in a full pic on set of Bridge of Dragons with Scott L. Schwartz. Even as late as age 45 in the 2003 video in the gym, Dolph measured up very well to 196-197 cm Ralf Moeller at only 2-3 cm shorter max. His posture still looked good there.

Lou's peak and when he first shrunk is unclear to me. I think(?) he was still a bit taller than just 6'3" in the early 2000s in his early 50s, but about 6'3" flat by his mid 50s and under 6'3" by his 60s at 189-190 cm range at most. How much over 6'1" Arnold was is also uncertain since his 6'1.5" measurement in 1969 supposedly took place in the evening, but that seems a bit dubious. But Arnold did seem to once be 186 cm and maintained a solid 6'1"-6'1.25" until the late 90s in his early 50s. Height loss only became obvious by his mid 50s in the early 2000s coinciding with his own hip replacement around 2002 or 2003 when he was visible with Terminator 3 and his election but then seemed possibly 6'0". Did Ferrigno similarly pretty much maintain his height until his early 50s and first shrink around 50-55 or did he already lose some height in his 40s? Whether he was once 6'4" depends on that. But he definitely wasn't ever 6'4.5"-6'5".

His peak height was 6’5” not 6’4” & anyone saying 6’2” now is just plain disrespectful. 😂 I’ve met him several times through my life both when he was barefoot, & with shoes on. He’s always had more than 3” on Arnold. Also when Lou said he was 6’4” that was many years after he was done bodybuilding. Twitter wasn’t around in the 1990’s 😂

I loved watching the hulk as a kid in the late 1970s and early 80s. Like most back then i couldnt believe how huge the big green man was. I thought he was at least 7ft, and he had the biggest body build i had ever seen wich made him appear much taller than he was. But i didnt realise this till i got older. I always felt sorry for david banner at the end as he walked away trying to hitch a lift with his jacket tucked between his bag wich was always over his shoulder! It was a great time also for this type of proggrame! I was suprised when i was age 16 and found out lou ferringuo was 6' 5" tall, yes i knew it was still really big and with his huge body build. But i thought he was at least 6' 7" tall in his peak. But it was a brilliant show!

I met Lou today at my son’s school. He has hearing loss like my son and he came to talk about his journey with hearing loss and I also took a picture with him. He’s the same height as me. We were both wearing the same type of footwear, so I would say he’s 6’2.5 with shoes on. So I’m guessing prime Lou was about 6’3 barefoot. I’m sure he lost an inch or so with age and especially doing a lot of bodybuilding. Looked great for being 71.

I saw the pic with Ali Baba again and Lou looked closer to 6'2"!

That's honestly how he looks in a series of pics if Dolph is only 6'2.5" now: Click Here Click Here Click Here Click Here

And in this gym photo from December 2020: Click Here I believe Dolph still measures closer to 6'3" than 6'2", but that still makes Lou under 6'3" now.

Lou did easily look 6'3"+ into his 50s and might have still been 6'3" flat in his early 60s, but he's now 70. My father is Lou's age and he's lost about 1.5", but had lost just under an inch a decade ago.
Rising174cm said on 18/Nov/21
I don't remember except that he didn't look above 6'2.5" and I don't believe he is anymore. It's been 8 years since the more recent photo with Rob and if anything, reversing Dolph and Lou's current listings would be more plausible. Dolph being taller in a series of photos from one event was enough, but the separate gym photo confirmed this.
Canson said on 16/Nov/21
@Rising: how tall would you say Lou looked with Ali Baba? Of course they wasn’t in his prime when he had the picture with him
Canson said on 14/Nov/21
@Rising: yea the more I see it was probably max 3cm. Ralf was likely in the 196-197 range. Maybe 6’5.25 if he didn’t make 6’5.5” but he def looked over 6’5 flat imho. 193 does look good for Dolph the more I see
Strong 6'4" said on 13/Nov/21
6'4" at peak, 6'2" currently
Rising174cm said on 12/Nov/21
@Canson: Yeah, Ralf was 196 cm minimum and no more than 3 cm taller than Dolph in that gym video from 2003. Dolph could look 194 cm range. He looked taller in a full pic with 6'8" Scott L. Schwartz than Steven Seagal did in cowboy boots. I'd say Dolph pulled off 6'4.5" with Schwartz. He also had an easy 5" on Brandon Lee, who is supposed to have been 182 cm, but was probably 5'11" and in 1990, Dolph had 7" on Alan Light while slouching and Light was probably 5'9.5" without shoes.

I just say Dolph was 193 cm peak at his low because it's safest. Now I'd guess he'd measure 190 since he's still taller than Lou in that gym photo from a year ago and he was also taller at the event. After his hip replacement, he's actually pulled off 6'3" a fair amount, probably because he stands better. He said he had been in pain for years before.

But yeah, Lou wasn't as solid of a 6'4" as Dolph peak and he's shorter today.
Canson said on 26/Oct/21
@Rising: I don’t rule out the 193.5-194 for Dolph. He could’ve been my height at his peak. Rob could have him listed right. I’d surely say he’s a strong 6’4 before Ferrigno being a solid one. I’d def say Ferrigno was around what you alluded to with 192ish. Dolph could pull off that range next to Moeller as it looked as little as about 3 cm between them at times. Maybe 3-3.5 is the better gauge
Almost 180cm guy said on 13/Oct/21
Hopefully the 6ft 4.25 is not out of the question for Lou's peak height. Here are some of his photos with Adrian Paul from 1994: Click Here Click Here Click Here
Lou looked over four inches taller than Adrian. In my opinion it was closer to 194 cm than 193 and 1/4 inch over 6ft 4 would be fairer as his peak height than flat 6ft 4.

It's tricky with those shots, because maybe ground isn't perfect and the angle might help Lou a bit.

Clearly shorter than 6'2.5" current listed Dolph Lundgren once *again* last month: Click Here So I'd say 6'2.5" is as much as I'd give Lou currently and only because I think Dolph might still measure more 190 cm as opposed to 189 range standing tall.

@Canson: Yeah, I'm agnostic on whether he was a full 6'4" peak, though I wouldn't guess Lou under around a solid 192. Of course, that's peak. Now he is indeed lucky to still hit 189 seeing him with Dolph who has shrunk a ton peak. If Dolph was only 193 peak himself then I do have a hard time imagining Lou was every bit as tall peak.

He was clearly still a very large man (broad shoulders), and roughly my height, wasn't wearing cowboy boots, and was much taller than those around him while standing in line for his flight. That makes him 189-190 cm now, and perhaps 192-194 peak, which justifies his 6'4 billing, and makes peak Arnold around 186 to 187cm, which is reasonable except for everyone who wants to claim something crazy.

If editor Rob saw him in person 7 years ago when Lou was 61 years old, and said he looked about 6'-3", couldn't he be 6'-4" in his 20's? If he was 6'-3" at 60, how could he only be 6'-2", when he was in his 20's?? Makes no sense! I don't know about 6'-5", but 6'-4" when he was young, I think it's possible. You can tell in his early movie rolls that he's a big man, as well as in his competitions, much more than 6'-2"!
Also, people saying Arnold is only 5'-11", is absurd! At least 6'-1" peak height, is right.

However Lou is 6'2.5" max these days, especially since Dolph Lundgren -- who has lost a lot of height himself -- is taller and Ali Baba made him look closer to 6'2" than 6'3", iirc. The average guess for peak and current may even be spot on. 6'3.75" peak and 6'2.5" current would make a lot of sense, but I don't rule out a solid 6'2"6'2.25" these days since it's been a number of years since Rpb's pictures.

It was the episode where Lou acted as "The Klondike Butcher". It is very easy to see that he is a full 2 inches shorter, maybe more, than John Larroquette. He looks half a foot shorter than 'Bull'. I'm guessing the custom-made shoes that Shaq wears gives him substantial height boost... definitely more than your typical 1-inch boost. Supposedly, Richters wears size 51EU (or 16.5 US), whereas Shaq wears size 22 and Lopez a size 20. I should mention that I also see size 23 for Shaq, and supposedly he started off w/ size 20.

--------

Yeah Shaq has huge feet among the biggest in the NBA, his feet are much bigger than say 7'6" Yao Ming who only is an 18 US.

Richters has a 51 euro and Yao has a 52 while Shaq wears a 56/57!!.

I heard the guy who played Jaws in James Bond movie was first choice to play Hulk due to his phenomenal height, but he didn’t have Lou’s incredible physique. So they traded height for muscles...it worked well though. It’s amazing how the right camera angle can add inches to your stature!

Considering estimates by both Rob and Ali Baba, I think 6'2.5" is fair. Still haven't seen enough to say 6'2" flat, though that may not be far off for Lou. At minimum, I can't give him even a mm more than Dolph today after seeing Dolph look clearly taller in 4-5 photos from that recent event. 6'2.5" is also the lowest I'd go for Hogan today and I think he's still closer to 6'3" than 6'2". I'd also bet Bana is closer to 6'2" than 6'1", if not a legit 6'2" and Lou was still a legit 6'3" in 2003. Kimmel is also more 5'11" minimum than max, imo. I do think there's more than enough evidence to conclude Lou had shrunk into the 6'2" range and I suspect Rob would agree now if he saw Lou again in 2019.

Lou doesn't look near 6'3" with Trump either, though the pic is pretty small and it wouldn't surprise me if Lou was dropping some height. But I think at least a downgrade to 190 current would be pretty safe. It's still tough for me to say whether Lou was 193 peak or just 192.
Rising - 174 cm said on 29/Dec/18
@berta: Good find, I didn't see a shot of them standing until now, but yeah, Dolph definitely looks taller in the pic: Click Here I know Ali Baba didn't think Lou was above 6'2.5" and it seems like he's no taller than 190 cm these days, imo. @Canson: I have Cooper at the full 6'5" too. I was referring to Lou's 6'4.5" claim. I was just remembering how I believed Lou's claim years ago. @Pierre: I've seen that photo with Ralf and Lou does look much shorter, but the only thing I wonder about is ground. He looks 6'3" max with Durock too, though the low angle could exaggerate the difference. Difficult to tell how much shorter Perry is there due to ground and posture. Lou looks maybe 6'3" or just over if Perry is 6'2", but Lou might have ground advantage and Perry might be standing straighter. He's not much shorter than Ralf in the second photo, but Ralf is leaning and might be on lower ground.

Lou has had 2 hip AND knee replacements plus he has degenerative disc disease so it makes sense he's lost a good amount of height. He didn't look taller than Ali Baba thought in his pic with Lou and Hasselhoff can look an inch or more taller now so 6'2.5" is possible and a 190 cm current listing might be good. Lou did look taller than Hulk Hogan in this 2014 pic: Click Here Granted, you can tell it's not easy for Hogan to stand like that and Lou looked a bit shorter than Hogan overall, imo back in 2005: Click Here and Hogan wasn't over 6'3.5" by that time so Lou would already be 6'3" flat the year before Rob met him, but he was at least that when the Hulk film came out in 2003, possibly a bit taller since he was noticeably taller than 6'2" Eric Bana and Jon Voight. He looked huge in the 70's and I always figured he was 6'4", which I still don't rule out, but he could look more than just an inch shorter than 6'5" listed Michael Cooper back in 1985: Click Here Click Here and the 6'4.5" claim(which I probably bought once upon a time) does make me wonder if that was a shoe height, though some do just pad their height by 1/2" or get measured earlier.

i think is strange that he was listed same height in 2006 and now? why would he shrink full inch at the age of 53 and then not shrink more now at 65? i really think that if he was 191 back in 2006 then he could have lost a fraction by then and was 191,5-192 peak and 190,5-191 in 2006 and 190 by 2013 and by now he is down to 189. Could be heading to 6 foot 2 flat . Arnold was probably 6 foot 1 flat in the evening. and 187 range after laying donw for a hour ore two.

@Canson.....This is the first time I agree with you buddy. I thought the Hulk was 6'4" or 6'5" but somewhere along the line I heard something that he was around 6'3". I wasn't sure because I was led to believe Arnold was 6'2". After being convinced that Arnold was no taller than six foot and a half inches, 6'3.5" looks right for Big Louie.

Rob... i have a question for you? In the pictures where u have a height scale superimposed on your photo with that of a celebrity, in those pictures...like the one with lou ferrigno, it shows ur hair kind of touching 5'8.5". Well is that measurement from the ground and including shoes? Would that mean that while wearing shoes you are about 5 foot 8.5 inches and lou ferrigno in shoes would cover the 6 foot 3 mark?

That is surprising. Because lou looked like he would be able to have his hair touch about 6 foot 4 or 4.5 inches in shoes in his recent movie Instant Death in which he looked pretty huge.

I saw his pictures with david hasselhoff n both were wearing similar shoes but david possibly had half inch on him. Though lou is a bit slouched as compared to david.

But strangely for some reason david doesnt seem a full 6 4 often. He looked more like 6 2.5 or so.

So yes ..i guess lou would be like 6 2 rock solid barefeet n maybe 6 3 in shoes nowadays.

But please do reply to my question.
Editor Rob
it's as if I was barefoot, since I'm slightly over 5ft 8.

In sneakers I am anywhere from 5ft 8.75-9.25 depending on the styles.
Canson said on 4/Dec/17
I think the only one of these bodybuilders that was his actual claimed height (or near it) was Ralph Moeller. He was easily the 197 cm he’s listed and only rounded up to 6’6. Ferrigno couldn’t have been much more than 6’3” or 6’3.25 and maybe 6’4 and change in shoes. Clear height difference between the two.

6'3.25" peak, legit 6'2" or even 6'2.25" as you can see with Rob.

Lou Ferrigno appeared on an episode of Chuck opposite Zachary Levi. Google lists Levi's height as 1.91 m or 6'2", but I've seen 6'4" as well. Levi definitely was taller than Ferrigno in that episode as you can see here.

Those'd be quite some lifts.

Don't know who claims that's John Elway in the pic with Lou, but pretty sure that's former NBA player Mark Eaton and not John Elway.
Here's a picture of Eaton for comparison.

Mark was listed 7'4" in his playing days and admitted in an interview once that he was 7'3 3/4"

I'm no expert but I suppose a guy who does an extreme activity like body building may genuinely lose height due to wear and tear. I think people who look at him now and say 6'2'' aren't seeing the younger and probably taller Lou. He may well have been close to 6'5'' in his youth.

Anyone doubting Lou's height should look at him onstage next to Dorian Yates at the Mr Olympia in... I think... it was 1992. Nobody has ever called Dorian Yates's height into question - the man was a solid 5'10. Lou's height is apparent next to him, and he was well into his 40s at this point.

I met him at Dragon Con and he seemed much smaller. I only realize now that he was probably hunching over to seem smaller so the children would not be scared. He appeared about 5'8, but based on these reports I think he was trying to seem small. He is an amazing role-model, so kind and open, and it is heartwarming to see him interact with children. I am so glad the new films brought back interest in The Hulk, because it brings him attention and opportunity.

Ian C said on 6/Mar/17
When Ferrigno was young and first became a public figure he claimed six foot five. I saw him for the fist time on ABC's World's Strongest Man competition in (I think) 1976. Six foot five was the tale and I don't think he would have tried it if it weren't true, because one of the other competitors was a powerlifter named Bruce Wilhelm, who claimed six foot four. I can't see a six foot four man letting another man who was only six foot four claim an phantom inch, so Wilhelm would have called him on it if it had been a lie.
Canson said on 6/Mar/17

you can laugh all day, but this is the truth. lou barefoot was 6'2"-6'2.5" (188-189cm). arnold barefoot was 5'11"-5'11.5"(180-182cm). Schwarzenegger towerd over competitors who most of them were 5'6"-5'8"(166-172cm).

Lou is as tall as manny perry or max half inch taller. 6'4"(193cm), is a pure fake. proof.

many of you don't have idea how tall is a legit 6'3"-6'5"(190-195cm). This is the problem. Stop with this comedy on ferrigno and schwarzenegger overstimated heights. We are tired.

This guy's height always fascinated me when I was a kid watching the hulk on tv. He was described as 6'5, which seemed extremely tall to me at the time but, even back then, he never gave a really tall impression on the show. Before I was into double figures I had a fascination with height. I really doubted he was his listed height back then. I just watched an episode of the hulk and there were crowd scenes in New York with Lou running through the people. Even with helpful camera angles he only looks a little taller than most of the crowd. I also saw that he is not barefoot in tbe hulk, he wears some kind of footwear and you can see the flat sneaker-type sole from behind. At a guess I would have estimated him as a weak 6'2 during the series. Rob....are you certain he was 6'3 minimum when you met. Maybe he was forcing posture in the top pic where he looks 6'2? He seems a bit lopsided which suggests he might have been tip-toeing on one foot, with the other dangling as a counter-balance. In fact he appears comparatively taller next to you in the top pic than he does in the bottom pic and the top pic is much more recent.
