American actress, best remembered for roles in films such as The Narrow Margin, The Killing, Force of Evil, The Fighting Kentuckian, Japanese War Bride, The Day Mars Invaded Earth, Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy, Trouble Along the Way and Little Big Horn.
At five foot nine, I was too tall for most leading men. There were only two stars who didn't mind that I was taller than them - George Raft and John Garfield. Raft told me how to walk with him in a scene: we'd start off in a long shot normal, and about the time we got together in a close-up, I'd be bending my knees so I'd be shorter. I had to do a tango with Raft and I learned to dance in ballet shoes with my knees bent.
For some reason, my height (5 ft. 8 in), deep voice and wide eyes seemed to make me the 'bad girl' type for casting directors.

Five nine is a height that starlets would not be rounding up back then. She may well have understated her height, because directors certainly minded her looking oversized and that would hurt her career. A very, very strong 5'9'' women to still be ever inch of that in 1997. Forrest Tucker was 6'5'', and I suspect she had no heels on for PR head shots of them. In heels in the film Hellfire she looks about six foot beside Tucker.

I met Marie back in 1997 at a seminar hosted by Charlton Heston. She was 5-9, exactly as stated above, and a fine, intelligent woman, whom I was honored to meet. We talked about The Narrow Margin, one of the best noirs ever made(1950–but Hughes didn’t release it till 1952), co-star Charles McGraw.

Rob can you add a photo and remove 1950s and add The Killing, Force of Evil, The Fighting Kentuckian, Japanese War Bride, The Day Mars Invaded Earth, Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy and Trouble Along the Way.

Marie Windsor had the most terrific "bedroom" eyes anywhere as well as a fabulous body. Why she never became a real star is a mystery.

I'm sure there's all kinds of height reducing tricks going on with her but it's really tough to buy that she was a full 5'9" IMO.
