It's strange they picked Ferrer to play Andrei in War&Peace. Andrei is supposed to be a shorter guy, while Pierre (played by 6ft1 Fonda) is supposed to be a ginormous guy, way above average.

Have to agree with Zediah's comments on 6'3" Ferrer and Granger. There are several "off the set" photos on-line with Granger and 6'1" Ray Milland, Granger and 5'11.5" David Niven, and Granger and 5'11" Robert Taylor, enough to seriously question Granger's (publicised) height. Rob, have you seen Niven and Granger's very funny movie "The Little Hut" (with Ava Gardner). There is not much difference in height between them throughout it.

Granger wearing lifts? LOL Granger was clearly very close to 6'3" himself. Ferrer could look 6'3.5. He looks a bit taller than Peck in that photo and Peck was clearly around 6'3" himself.

Fonda was seventy in "Midway" so he could have lost an inch by then.
Ferrer was 6'3". Stewart Granger had to wear lifts in "Scaramouche" so he would look the same height as Ferrer.

Fonda can look a bit shorter at times granted but if you see his 30s and early 40s movie he actually looked near 6'2" on occasions and 187 looks accurate. Ferrer looked a solid 6'3" guy.

I saw Midway. Charlton Heston appeared to be several inches taller than Henry Fonda. Also, on a television show (I believe that it was a tribute to Henry Fonda, or Henry Fonda's birthday), Charlton Heston was seen standing next to Henry Fonda, and appeared to be considerably taller.

Fonda wasn't under 6'1!! I've seen enough of his films and comparisons to get a realistic idea of his height. Granted he did look about 6'0.5" next to Ferrer in War and Peace, but that's one film. Fonda still looked 6'1" even in On Golden Pond.

Fonda was 2-3 inches shorter than Mel Ferrer so he was definitely less than 6'1".

His face to me evokes those silent films of the late 20s with Greta Garbo and the masquerade ball type things. I think he'd have made a very good Frankenstein actually. He was married to Audrey Hepburn at her most beautiful in the 50s and 60s, lucky fella!!

There is a scene in War and Peace where they're walking and he really made Fonda look a very questionable 6'1.5". I think he had a bit of ground advantage though but in that once scene he looked almost 3 inches taller. In the interior scenes Ferrer looked about 2 inches taller. Either way it completely blows out Rampage's request for a 6'2" upgrade well out of the window!!

Editor Rob I have seen him in stuff, but had a look at some clips and 6ft 3 seems a good shout.
