That is interesting. He is very heavy and low body fat for 5'10. 230 lbs and probably %15 body fat. He is heavy as Wilder that he is 6'6.5 inches. And not to much smaller than anthony joshua that his weight is 240 lbs. He has too much muscle and bones like his 20's but I don't know his cardiovascular capacity
Canson said on 5/Aug/20
@Slim: I think it is just this particular picture with Rob that makes him look taller than he really is. Roy Jones called him 5’10 and said that he’s only 1/2” taller himself and Tyson in person didn’t look over 5’10”. Now the question is what was he in his prime? He may have been a hair over 5’10” then. He claimed 5’10.5 before but was that a morning height? Possibly or possibly he was a strong 5’10” who woke up to 5’11” and dipped to 5’10.25” in his prime. He looked 3” shorter than Holyfield more often than not

@Tall in the Saddle: it’s ironic. Now I see him fawning over Tyson lol. He says he will rule. I’ll tell you what. Iron Mike at 54 is in better shape than some athletes in their 30s lol

Agree. As far as we can judge, they may well just appear basically even in height. So Joshua is calling Mike out also? Funny. Mike back in full focus and demand and I bet he's loving it. LOL.

@Tall in the Saddle: I’m pumped! And the beers are a given for me lol. I have Iron Mike. I saw Him in action on TV and he still is in remarkable shape. At 54 years old, that’s amazing. Those two will be close in height but I want to see if Jones really edges him in the ring as Rob has them. It wouldn’t surprise me if those two are the same. with someone like Joshua and Klitschko we saw a difference but that Was hard at times. And now Joshua has issued warning shots to iron Mike lol. But I really wanted to see Iron Mike fight Fury. Fury would have the height and reach but Iron Mike is still the man!
Tall In The Saddle said on 30/Jul/20
@Canson

Yeah, I remember you were pumped for a Fury v Tyson match. Just the "face off" in the ring would've been a sight to behold in itself given the size diff.
Should be more or less eye to eye with Roy. Depending on how it goes, a Fury match might still manifest.
Certainly still worth a watch and a good excuse for me to get out for just a "few quiet" beers with some mates. LOL.

Supposedly just an exhibition but IF they get serious and bang on for real, who have you got?

@Editor Rob: did Mangianello look definitively taller than McPartlin in person? I’d have a hard time telling 1/4” difference between two people let alone if I don’t see them together. I know you said Mangianello looked 6’4.5/6’5 range so is McPartlin more 6’4/6’4.5 range?
Editor Rob
Not when he was standing about talking to people...but when he stood at his tallest I think he has a good chance of measuring a bit taller. But it could be quite close in reality, Mcpartlin is very tall, even Jenny commented on that fact when we were queuing up.

@ MD, the Angle Favors Armstrong, Tyson still would be a bit taller. Tyson also looks taller than Lance in that photo a bit, despite the angle favoring Armstrong. Tyson is still right about at 5'10", he may dip below it throughout the day. In His prime he was slightly over 5'10 at points in the day I'm betting.

I would even take it a step further and say that 5’11” out of bed was a possibility in his prime, but No less than 5’10.75.

Based on how he faced up to Mariusz Wach in some photos (which aren't perfectly framed), it is possible that McBride wasn't quite the full 6'6". Interestingly, Wach and McBride were listed 6'7" and 6'6" respectively for their fight. It seemed Wach clearly had more than 1" on McBride and probably an arguable 1.5+".As Wach stood with McBride you'd naturally expect to see Fury hold the same advantage over McBride also.
Canson said on 5/Jun/20
@Tall in the Saddle: those are good pics and the one with Fury and Tyson is indicative of 9+ inches. I wonder about Kevin McBride’s height. He can pull off looking 6’6” at times but he has one of those builds that makes him appear shorter than his actual height. In this pic, McBride is looking down a bit

@Tall in the Saddle: Yea it’d be a very interesting matchup with those two. I’d love to see it lol. The contrast in their styles due to the cultures and eras along with their bodies. Due to the 9+ inch height difference. That’d be the case with other big wrestlers such as Deontay Wilder with Mike Tyson too
Tall In The Saddle said on 31/May/20
@Rob

Yeah on face value you could give Evander maybe 6’2.5” to 6’3” based on 5’10” for Mike. I believe they’re closer in height as other photos have depicted. However it’s interesting that there are more than a few photos in which Mike appears to be dropping height comparable to the photo you linked. Aside from angle maybe Evander is rocking a bit more heel.

Canson stated a possible match with Tyson Fury. Imagine that. Fury wasn’t even born when Mike blitzed Spinks in 91 seconds. Even if Mike had the speed of old there is still the problem of reaching Fury. Mike would need more than 3 rounds to work his way in and his tank would be empty by then.

While I don’t think a legit return is viable Mike is looking more and more cut these days which I suppose is indicative of his commitment to return to the ring, Mike has often said he wasn’t a fan of the required training so I doubt he would be getting himself fit for any other reason.
Editor Rob
In person I'd stick with a good 3 inches between them, definitely not 4 inches.
Canson said on 30/May/20
@Editor Rob: true. Even slightly more due to the camera with Holyfield
Tall In The Saddle said on 29/May/20
I don't understand some pundits waxing lyrical about the possibility of Mike returning to the ring.

Mike came in the best he could be years back and he clearly no longer had the goods. Does he look good in the brief snippets we've seen at age 53 yo? Of course. So does Ray Leonard at 60+ but it's all relative and a far cry from boxing 3 minutes a round for 12 rounds if necessary against a live opponent. Mike's defence was his offence. Mike would gas in 2-3 rounds and then get eaten up. Even big GF said that Mike would risk serious injury making a legit comeback. I actually believe it's just talk and that Tyson is smarter than that. Probably at best he might engage in a friendly exhibition with old foe Holyfield. Still, being the warriors they were, one harder than appreciated punch might lead to another..for god's sakes Evander, at least wear ear muffs. Mayweather is younger and hasn't been out of the game for as long. If Mike really needs to get in there, please call out Floyd, I'd love to see that. LOL.
Editor Rob
Speaking of Holyfield, like Tyson and myself, here is Mike and Holyfield with a greater difference than there is in reality.

I never noticed that Mike T. had Ronald McDonald feet. Actually, what's the source for size 15 aside from Mike himself? I recall Ali was a size 15. It's documented (as per auction) that Mike's training shoes were size 13 1/2. I assume the sizing for boxing shoes is the same as regular shoes but I could be wrong. Anyway, for his height, size 13 1/2 is still disproportionally large.

if I am not wrong david tua was listed as low as 5'8.5 in one fight

what I definitely know is that he was billed as 5'9 in a few fights

why would they list a 5'10 man as 5'9 ? in many cases fighters get listed as taller than they are

I wouldnt rule out 5'9 for tua . but I would believe 5'10 too

tua is my favorite boxer btw
Tall In The Saddle said on 11/Apr/20
How tall is David Tua? Good question.

Some have DT as low as 5'9". His body size/width can lend to the impression of his being shorter than he is in reality. However, plenty of in ring footage to compare him against other boxers - vs 6'5" Savon in the amateurs and vs 6'1" and a bit Holyfield in sparring just to name two.
During an amateur contest in '92, after noting an obvious height disparity, a commentator described 19 yo Tua's opponent as nearly 6'1". As to Tua, the commentator began "5 foot ..let's just say he is 5'10", barely!" I'm guessing the commentator was converting metric height listings and wasn't bothered to convert Tua's metric height which was obviously less than 178 cm. If Tua was listed 178 cm the commentator would've just said 5'10" without hesitation. I'm guessing Tua was probably listed as 177 cm at the most - a bit over 5'9.5" - thus the commentator round up, notably qualified by the description "barely" 5'10". Based on visual comparisons, I would say about 5'9.5" is a fair call for the Tua Man.

well he is not short . and he has a very big frame too and weighed around 97-98kg in his prime

so taking him as an example that height doesnt mean s*** is nonsense

of course height is not the be all end all attribute but saying that it doesnt mean s*** is not true either .

who has the big advantage : a 160cm 60kg guy or a 193cm 110kg guy ? the answer is clear

even if the 160cm guy would weigh a lot more and the 193cm guy would weigh less the taller dude would still have an advantage

that doesnt mean that short men cant beat tall men . of course they can

5'10 is not short and is actually one of the best heights for fighting because you are tall enough to not have much if any weight disadvantage but at the same time you are more agile and coordinated than tall men and you can close the distance and attack with devistating hooks and uppercuts etc. just like how tyson did in his prime

Daniel Cormier is also 5'10 or maybe even a bit less than that and he was heavyweight mma champion
pov said on 30/Mar/20

I've expressed doubt before as to whether Mike made a full 5'10".

However, the above photo is not a great shot to assess for Mike's current height, not the least for the fact that isn't full length and footwear is unknown. It appears to have been taken at height lower than the shortest guy in the pic which can disadvantage the taller guy. As that photo is framed, both guys are leaning their bodies in, Eminem possibly slightly more so. Where Eminem really loses is the tilt of his head, Mike's is slight but Marshall's is pronounced. Eminem isn't standing as square either.

Imagining M & M fully straight, I would guess no more than 2" adv. to Mike as per the frame and possibly a bit less.
Actually just found another photo taken at the same time. Eminem standing straight has gained some. Probably too much, seems to be stretching for this shot. I don't know who the other guy is in the photo.

Here's a pic of Eminem, Mike and Kimmel back in 2009. Again, imperfect angle which makes Mike appear at least equal if not a bit taller than Kimmel - many other photos indicate the fact that Kimmel is taller.

I understand the height contentions re Cruise and Arnie but I thought that a pic with fellow Scot and Icon Sean Connery might've been high on your list, not so much to gage 007's post peak height when he was still standing quite tall but just because it's Sean Connery. Not possible now of course but maybe a few years back. Then again, I don't know that Connery was ever partial to photos with fans but then again that would make a snap with him that much more special.

Do the celebs interpret you having these photos just as a fan or do they have any inkling they will be used as a reference to their height? If not initially aware, I wonder if any are put out in any way if and when they become privy to this site.
You've become a bit of celebrity in your own right. Over time when they see you comin' they might just start runnin'. LOL.
Mike's £50 charge doesn't sound cheap but something I'll probably pay if the opportunity arose. Was it just for the one photo? I have a friend who visited Vegas a few years back. They got a photo of Mike pretending to bite their ear. They also bought a boxing glove which Mike signed. I can't remember the exact total cost but I recall thinking it wasn't too bad.

Canson, Tall in the Saddle,

Odd you guys are going at it. Honestly you both seem to be more of the logical posters on here so I find it odd that both of you are having at it. I agree with you both more often than not. Weird.

As far as Tyson being short , Its Funny I never read Lennox's comment about Mike Tyson being 5'5 before. Recently, Lennox has stated he knows he fought an out of prime Mike Tyson but felt he still could have beaten him in his prime, just would have been a harder fight for him.

There are varying stories of what happened when Tyson and Lennox fought ( Sparred ) at Cus's Gym back in the early 80's. Lennox stats that Tyson beat him up the first day, and then he Got Tyson the Second day. Others who had witnessed it said Tyson bullied Lewis. Not sure what to believe as both of them are really Heavyweight greats IMO.

Lennox had the physical GIfts and Used them well, his height for sure. Had nice Technique had great power. Tyson IMO was better skilled , and more so than many other heavyweights. He worked hard in the early days and out-trained everyone. Sad what happened. People like to point fingers but give any 20 year old millions of Dollars and watch what happens.

Just my take on Tyson v Ali. I assume by Clay you mean Ali's first reign OR perhaps up to and including the first Liston fight.

Of course many will point to the Tillis fight and the relative obstacles Mike faced in that match against an Ali type fighter but so much less than Ali himself. Against most ATG HWs I would say Tyson would have to get them out in say 4-5 rounds whilst at his absolute explosive best otherwise Mike's chances drop exponentially thereafter. However, it is of course an each case on it's own merits exercise.

I just came across an interesting and very recent interview with Foreman. Click Here Interesting GF said Ali warned the come backing GF NOT to fight Tyson, Ali qualifying that Tyson can really hit which GF already acknowledged. GF beautifully side stepped the question of WHO WINS between Ali and Tyson by stating that two fighters as great as Ali and Tyson could never exist in the same time, it wouldn't be ordained. Too much talent at the same time.

Not sure, I think GF might've offered an opinion previously favouring Ali vs Tyson. In this particular instance, which his most recent opinion, GF was clearly unwilling to pick either man over the other. Also, I guess if GF deep down felt Tyson would win he might not say so given his broad respect toward and admiration of Ali.

As to GF vs Tyson? Even at the time of his comeback, many felt the match would be analogous to what GF did Frazier. I don't think that is perfectly true, particularly as GF was older and slower, but I see some merit in the comparison.
Ian C. said on 8/Feb/20
Human beings don't come any stronger than Mike Tyson. When he took a break from training he immediately gained weight, whereas Evander Holyfield lost weight whenever he broke from training, because Holyfield relied on weight training to bulk up.

Tyson was shorter than Marciano. How would the young Tyson have fared against the young Cassius Clay? My bet: he would have put Clay down in less than five.
Jordan87 said on 27/Jan/20
5'10" but his hands are huge. Saw him in a video from 1986 hitting the heavy bag a couple days ago. He was so fast and had GREAT Technical Skill. People don't understand how hard it can be to dominate 6'4 men in a sport where you can't grapple or shoot for take downs. Tyson had Amazing Skill when he was right.

Wilder may hit as hard , or harder but Honestly Tyson would present problems for Wilder if he landed shots to the body that I can tell you.

@forevercoverboybrady66 Your boxing knowledge seems to be limited like most people. Mike Tyson is 5'10. The last 5'10 heavyweight champion was Floyd Patterson. Some people think that Joe Frazier was 5'10 as well. Tommy Burns was also 5'7 and weighed as low as 150 pounds. He he wasn't even a heavyweight by modern standards.
forevercoverboybrady66 said on 28/Dec/19
If Tyson's "small," (and he is),what am I at 5'9",200-205 pounds ? Iron Mike was the shortest heavyweight champ since Canadian Noah Brusso (Tommy Burns),but among the fiercest until James Douglas "Busted" him Feb.10,1990 .
Tall In The Saddle said on 18/Dec/19
@A.Lawrence

True, Mike never claimed 6' directly but back in the day they did inflate his tale of the tape height to 5'11.5" which some people might interpret as 6 feet more or less. I have Mike at 5'10" but suspect he might've been a tad shorter than that.

This famous professional heavyweight boxer champion was probably 5ft 10 around his peak years. Current I would guess him around 5ft 9 3/4 ish based on the pic that I saw him standing next to Famous Mexican American Professional boxer Andy Ruiz Jr. (Known as having nickname Deestroyer) With 5ft 11 quarter range or so. There seems like 1 and quarter half inch differences in their height or so.
Therefore, I would go with 5ft 9 3/4 range at the best for Tyson...

In this case it's the same, Mike has a little thicker shoes but Mario has hair and Mike is bald. Besides, Mike just does not look like a four-inch shortet than Simon Rex:

Here Mike next to Abigail Breslin (pay attention to how high her heels are):

Mike next to Dalip Singh does not look as short as usual 5'10" despite the fact that Dalip stands closer to the camera:

I will mention it again, seeing Mike next to Sugar Ray Leonard in 2012 I can not believe that there was only one inch difference between them:

Mike met Vin Diesel in 2006, unfortunately their shoes are not visible but I would not be surprised if Vin had thicker shoes than Mike:

Mike in 2003 alongside Brian McKnight did not really look 6 inches shortet from him:

I looked at him a lot alongside Donnie Yen. At one of the events Mike looked at least 4 inches taller from him:

Rob, I know that zone 5'10.5"-5'11" could be a little too high for him, but you said you understand the estimates 5'10.25". From everything I've seen, I just think that 5'10.25" would be the best option for Mike. There's a chance Mike might lose some height in the next few years... Rob, is there any chance you'll give him a peak height 5'10.25" in the future?
Editor Rob
It's not offensive to estimate him as between 5ft 10 and 10.5. personally I can see the argument for it.

------------------------------------------------------------------

it's complete nonsense . I am 5'9.25 and had many women being attracted to me lookwise . same applies to many other men below 6'0

and btw :

5'10 is not short at all

it is solid medium height . obviously it will be short in the heavyweight division but thats another story alltogether

also something to remember is that there have been several fighters around 5'10 in the heavyweight division who were really good and beat a lot of tall guys . like Rocky Marciano , David Tua , James Toney , and of course Mike Tyson . some more probably who I cant think of at the moment

Daniel Cormier is also around 5'10 and is mma champion in the light heavyweight division

it is even possible that some of these supposedly 5'10 guys are a bit shorter than 5'10 especially David Tua

5'10 is a good height for sure

I think taking the average between your morning, afternoon, and evening height would be pretty fair.
cmillzz said on 21/Sep/18
If by morning height you mean the literal 10-20 seconds out of bed measurement, while still valid, it really isn’t a height that should be claimed. I can’t even hold my maximum morning height for a minute, and most people are seeing you after you’ve been out of bed for an hour or more, and by that time you’d have shrunk a pretty good amount (at least I do).

Tyson, I'm sure definitely measured a strong 5'10 in the late 80s. Maybe more a 5'10 1/8 (178.1 cm) but 5'10.25 was indeed possible.

@Shane, that's why I'm not a fan of the phrase "legit". Imagine telling someone who measured maybe 5'10.25 in the morning (has no idea about height loss over the day) that they are not 5'10 when there is proof they measured the mark. Obviously within celebheights it's fine but I hope forumers are not calling out those in real life.

@Tall in the Saddle: the absolute lowest he would’ve been in 2008 or 2009 when I saw him was maybe 5’9.75 but I could buy 5’10 easily. Next to my wife who is 5’7.75 he looked a good 2” taller and still looks 2” next to Rob. If he’s much less than that it would have been inside of the last 10 years

Still not sold on Tyson at a solid 5'10". Here is Mike with Eddie Murphy who this site lists at 5'9.25". I might give Murphy a bit more than that - say 5'9.5" but not 5'10". At any rate, for the better part of the clip Murphy appears slightly taller otherwise there are moments where Tyson might appear equal

If you go to YouTube you can find a video montage of Tyson knocking men out, which will give you a quick, clear understanding of just how violent boxing is. What is amazing is that anyone had the courage to get in the ring with Mike Tyson, knowing in advance that the fight could only end with his concussion. Would you let somebody that strong hit you in the chin for fifty thousand dollars? Not me. It would be easier to go to law school.
Canson said on 20/Jun/18
@Emil: legit would mean he doesn’t dip below. But I actually give the benefit of the doubt at 5’9 7/8 as legit but to be technical dipping under means it isn’t. My definition of legit though is 7/8-1/8. I think saying “about 5’10” for Tyson suffices as he could still be 5’10” flat or hair over or less. He’s not much less than that though I agree and in person he still looked 5’10 next to my wife who is around 5’7 3/4. The worst case was 2” diff between them but with Rob he looks a comfortable 5’10”.

Even in more recent pictures he still looks about 5’10. I doubt he’s lost much height over his lifetime. There’s a better chance he measured a hair over 5’10 At his peak. I wouldn’t go below maybe 5’9.75 but wouldn’t go over a flat 5’10 having met him in person
Canson said on 29/Mar/18

5’10ish at a low. Someone his age may not wake up as tall as Rob said your out of bed decreases with age

@Mr.FiveEight: I agree with C-Mo and Tyson had about 2” on my wife as well next to her and she is 5’7 3/4 at a low (1mm below actually). He could be maybe 5’9.75-5’10 but not Lower but that was about 8-9 years ago so maybe he had lost a fraction then I doubt he’s under 5’10 peak and maybe still today.

@C-Mo: yes I agree with what you said

@ Mr. FiveEight and Canson

well thats exactly the point I tried to make . I think he is 179.5 out of bed and 177.5cm at nighttime . maybe even 2-3mm more . something around that is my guess . I just meant that even if we were as strict and ungenerous as possible then even then anything below 177cm at nighttime wouldnt make any sense and that would be the bare minimum he could be and he still would be 5'10 with that height but he seems to not fall below 5'10 at night even (if then barely)
santgr said on 27/Mar/18
Rob do you think there is a chance Iron Mike was 5ft10.5 in the 80's?
Editor Rob
5ft 10.25 isn't exactly impossible for him, 5ft 10.5 I'm not sure on. I suppose if he measured at 10am he would be over 5ft 10 flat.
Conan said on 27/Mar/18
I'm 5 ft 9 3/4 in (177.2 cm) on barefoot so I guess his height is 5 ft 10 in ( 177.8 cm). He just taller than me a little bit
Canson said on 26/Mar/18
@C-Mo: he definitely is a true 5’10 in person I agree prob at his lowest. But I would say more along the lines of 179.5 out of bed for him maybe even a mm or so more and a flat 5’10 at his low maybe more at peak. Today worst case maybe he dips a hair under but probably not even as low as Bobby by seeing him with Rob. He Had my wife by at minimum a full 2” probably 2.25 or so really. but for height loss, someone isn’t gonna just lose 1cm from the time they wake up (7am let’s assume) until noon. You lose a cm in some cases after an hour best case 2 hours if you lose slower than normal. Meaning he could be 178 by lunch but that would be coming down from like 179.5 as opposed to 179. Your height loss is front loaded which is why you see me advocate the low as much as I do
Nils2 said on 26/Mar/18

Mr. FiveEight said on 26/Mar/18
@c-mo: I’d doubt Tyson falls below a flat 5'10" in the evening and if he does it’s going to be a small fraction. He’s got a solid 2" on Rob - who never dips below a solid 5'8" at his lowest, and though Mike’s got the advantage in the photo, Rob’s said it often enough that Mike looked right about 5'10" on the mark....whether he falls 1/8" below or above that would be impossible to detect!
M58 said on 26/Mar/18

I'd say less than a handful wore anything like an obvious elevator or shoes that had a bulky front (which would indicate a good chance of lifts).

But half inch to 3/4 inch lifts are very hard to be able to spot.

176.5 cm or 5'9 1/2"

---------------------------------

how ?

Rob is 173.5cm after being awake for several hours (you can check his video) and 173cm at his very low . so when he met Mike he was very likely around 173.5cm or AT LEAST BARE MINIMUM 173cm logically . and they have similar shoes . so you are saying that Mike is only 3cm taller than rob on this pic ? really ? go to the optician and let your eyes checked bro .

Mike is easily 5cm taller than rob on the pic . anything below 4cm is not possible . I am around 1.8cm taller than my brother and I put on small houseshoes and compared myself to him (him being barefeet) in front of the mirror to look what a 3cm difference looks like and the difference between rob and mike is bigger than what I and my brother had.

the difference between them looks roughly 5cm . I think that mike is getting a bit of an advantage because of the angle and the way they are both standing (rob said that himself) so the difference is probably more like 4 or 4.5cm because of that .

so if we take 173.5cm rob and add 4.5cm for mike = 178cm mike

if we take 173.5cm rob and add 4cm for mike = 177.5cm mike

if we are more pessimistic and take 173cm rob and add 4cm for mike then = 177cm mike . and that would be the most strict and pessimistic you can be without it getting unrealistic . so that would be the bare minimum mike could be . and as you should know people are placed as their afternoon-evening heights on celebheights mostly . so the minimum mike can be is 177cm in the afternoon-evening range but he is likely a bit more than that

and you think rob wouldnt have listed mike as 176.5cm if he thought that it would be more likely ? come on ...

so based on my analysis mike is something like 179.5cm when he wakes up . 178cm after being awake for 5-6 hours probably . and something like 177.5cm at night

and with being a bit more strict/sceptical it is possible that he is 179cm when he wakes , 178cm noon , 177cm evening

anything lower than that is just nonsense tbh

It’s possible he’s very close to 5'11" out of bed, but he probably lost a fraction of height today (though you never know, seeing his fit and muscular body type I don’t think he’s lost anything). I know fifty year olds who haven’t lost anything noticeable. As far as morning height goes, most people fall in that 0.5"-1" daily shrinkage range.

Hey c-mo.
I think 5'10" is very fair call on the Brockton Blockbuster (Rocky). Boxing tales of the tape generally listed Rocky at 5'11" but imo that was a bit inflated. Archie Moore himself was almost always listed at 5'11" but interestingly when he fought the Rock, they gave Rocky an extra 1/2" to pump him up to 5'11.5" for an artificial edge over the Moore.
If it helps, I've linked a post fight photo of Rock (imo 5'10") and Archie Moore (imo 5'11") - and we can safely assume identical footwear and scant elevation in reg. boxing boots. Personally I think it shows about 1" edge to the Mongoose (Moore).

SRL was an amazing fighter. There wasn't a lot to Ray physique wise to impose himself (ala Hagler). Ray was just pure skill, speed, timing, accuracy and punching power. His best fights were imo the first fight against Hearns and his first against Duran. Yes, Ray lost the first to Duran but he stood mano a mano with peak Duran - it brought out the best in Ray and disproved the belief as at that time that he was just a pretty boy who would fold under the duress of the hands of stone. Duran might not have shown it at the time but I'm sure Ray got Roberto's respect in Montreal.

@Canson - Yeah I always felt about 5'10" just some pics with fellow boxers like 5'9" Ray Leonard etc. made me think maybe even a smidge below. Would've been cool to meet him in person. He's lost weight but the overall diminishment in size is startling - clearly it's not just a case of his ceasing training, weights etc. Rob's forearms stand up pretty well next to Iron Mike's, lol. Had it been a snap with Foreman it would've been no contest (sorry Rob) - at least in his boxing days Foreman's arms were h-u-g-e.

Yeah, I got Iron Mike at around 178 to 179 cm (5 ft 10 to 5 ft 10.5) tall and most likely he was never over 5 ft 10.25. Just goes to show that if Mike had ever fought Ali, he would have been at a signifi**** height disadvantage to Ali. I know Ali at 6 ft 2.5 wasn’t that tall compared to today’s heavies but he was still v tall for his time &, in the ring, would look down on Ty by about four to four and a half inches! The Ty fanboys are going say, so what, Mike slaughtered opponents who were 5 to 7 inches taller...but I say to those guys, Spinks, Tucker, Biggs, Ruddock, Bonecrusher Smith, Pinklon Thomas et al never had the combination of smarts, speed, agility, chin & undying spirit that Ali had. Sure, Holmes was a great boxer in the mold of Ali but I ignore Ty’s win over him as Larry was 38 yrs old at the time & was coming out of a loong lay off to fight Mike (even still Larry won the first 3 rounds!). Also, mentally, the bully in the fight would be Ali & not Tyson (and those who think Ali would have been scared of Ty are fricking delusional). Word: Ali would have extended Tyson into the later rounds & would have triumphed over him...12 rnds, Ali on pts but if it was 15, I am pretty confident Ali would have stopped Mike in the championship rounds. And on the discussion regarding Rocky Marciano...hell, Rocky would have been made to look like a poor man’s amateur & would have been slaughtered by Ali, Holmes & Tyson.
Canson said on 10/Mar/18
@Tall in the Saddle: Tyson was definitely a full 5’10 minimum at his peak. Probably could’ve exceeded it. When my wife and I met him he was at least 2” taller than her and I reliably measured her at about a mm under 5’7.75 (5’7.717). I could’ve said worst case 5’9.75 but could’ve said 5’10 just as easily. He prob wasn’t over that mark then but this was less than 10 years ago when we met him. We met him I believe a year before Rob did if I can remember correctly but it was outside of a restaurant in Maryland in a city Potomac MD near where he lives
Tall In The Saddle said on 9/Mar/18
When Tyson was active, I think the old tales of the tape used to afford Tyson 5'11.75" - an obvious exaggeration.

IMO, Tyson was only ever 5'9.5" to 5'10". Hell of a dimensional handicap when facing guys between 6'3" and 6'5". Mike should be given huge relative credit for being able to get inside and reach those guys the way he did. Mike's reach was only 71" (close enough to 5'10"). Larry Holmes had a reach of 81" - 8" beyond his own height. MW Great 5'9" Marvin Hagler's wingspan was a whopping 76"! Mike had the bulk but took only MW dimensions into the ring with him so getting his opponent out of there in quick time was crucial.

Whats Odd is Tony Tucker, One of Tyson's Opponents only looks about 6'2 with Rob, yet looked alot taller than Tyson when they fought, I had thought Tucker was about 6'3.5. He was listed at 6'5 but you will see he only looks 6'2 with ROb.
