@ Wes holleman, are you really 7'5"? If you are, have you ever met anyone around your height or taller?

@2tallman I’m 7’5 i don’t ever find anybody on these sites at or taller than 7 ft

After reading some of the comments on here it seems like a few on here are hell bent on making Yao Ming as short as they can, yeah whatever he can lose height during the day as much as anyone else but looking at him pictured (and in person) next to other tall basketball players barring Shawn Bradley he looks 7’6 and I believe first thing in the morning he is in the 7’6 range and doesn’t look any shorter today, 7’5 listing in the afternoon might even short change him, especially lately he looks like he has 7inches on Shaq and a few other 7footers, he certainly didn’t look like the laughable claim of 7’3 3/4 in the evening next to 7’9 measured Sun Ming Ming, there was no way 5 inches between the 2 of them, Yao next to Sun and Shaq alone looked almost 7’7, although he isn’t I don’t think he drops below 7’5 after a hard day, someone prove to me a 7 and half footer drops 2 inches or more after being up for 12hours or more then It’ll believe it otherwise even at night Yao is at least 7’5.
Also I want to see him next to Shawn Bradley again both barefoot, sure Shawn might have an inch I think at eye level but height is measured at the top of the head and I believe they’re close, no more than an inch definitely.
Canson said on 28/Sep/19
If you look here, it says that Yao measured 7’6 1/4 (presumably in shoes) since Fall was not 7’7” barefoot. Fall measured 7’5 1/4” barefoot which means Yao was not above 7’5” barefoot and could have possibly Been less even assuming that these aren’t morning measurements

210 cm is closer to 6’11 than 6’10 btw. Still exceptionally tall either way.

Wow you're a giant of good height :) 224cm a yes for absolute low.

@Nh?n Nh?n
Yao wear sneakers in the morning would easily measure that.

@Canson
Sometimes i suspect he is 7'3 3/4 but more towards 224cm.

Now this is a dumb statement. The NBA would list him taller if he actually were. And the man came out of his mouth and said before that he was 7’3 3/4 and was said to be 7’5”
Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 25/Jun/19
Yao had claim 7'4, 7'5 and 7'6 three version. So 7'5 is best shout.

@abc123 More like 228cm in sneakers. 231.5cm not even with a hair.

@Y07,i dont know about Kevin Love, but i know 100% sure Lauri Markkanen is 7ft barefoot, and he looks ridiculous short with Yao. Looks easily 6in shorter in the pic i posted earlier. But then again, its just one picture among others. Pictures can lie, as we all know.
abc123 said on 4/Jun/19
Yao is a solid 228 cm barefoot and 231.5 cms in shoes.
Canson said on 27/May/19
I doubt he’s 7’7” in the morning. Likely 7’6 out of bed and falls below 7’5” at a low
Y07 said on 24/May/19
@Robbe There's a problem though, Kevin Love is 6'9 1/2" with shoes on though. But during the pre-draft measurements, he is measured at 6'7 3/4". So he's no where near 6'10". 7'5" for him is most likely, maybe under 7'5" at the very wory worst at his absolute lowest measurement. With him he could probably measure near 7'7" first thing in the morning.

Ming's not been touched for ages.
Erik C. said on 23/Feb/19
Keep in mind that picture is probably of prime/peak Yao and he’s tilting his head in a particular way that would probably make him APPEAR taller next to Shaq. AND, in addition to that, even if he did grow after that point he’s probably suffered from loss anyway what with his NBA career, his weight (which is probably now heavier than his original billed weight), and of age as he’s nearly 40 years old and simply bc of his size in general. AND, bc of being a guy of his size/stature and weight, he almost certainly loses a ton of height throughout the coarse of a day. So currently, at his most compressed low, the highest I can possibly argue for him is 7’3 1/5. Perhaps currently 7’4 1/4 first thing in the morning out of bed. But peak 7ft4 1/4. I personally don’t buy the 7’5 listing Rob has for him.

But he isnt first tallest men in the Earth cause there is guy from Turkey the tallest men in the Earth whose height is 8ft 3 or so.. But one of the tallest basketball players in Earth? oh yes...

This guy is well within the top 50 tallest living people on the planet (even in the event that he's 'only' 7'4 - 7'5), don't see why you gotta bring race into it lol. He's a giant anywhere in the world. He's also easily the top 10 tallest living people without a pituitary problem. 6'6 is 'very tall', Yao is far beyond that. I agree he's probably an inch shorter than Bradley based on one of the few pics where they're standing tall, but I'd definitely like to see them meet up nowadays to see if there's really any difference at all.
Canson said on 28/Nov/18
@184guy: I could see Bradley measuring that but he looked taller than Yao to me. Bradley May have grown when he came in the league or maybe it wasn’t a low for him since he got 7’5.5 and 7’6.25. Yao could surely look 7’5 at times tho I’ll say. Guys that size lose a heck of a lot of height tho in a day

Canson said on 10/Oct/18
@Bard: it’s tricky at times. Yao can look 7’5” at times but 7’4” other times. I could almost buy him measuring 7’3.75 but that’s definitely gonna be a low for him, perhaps an extreme low. For all intents and purposes he’d be 7’4” at that stage. 7’6” just doesn’t add up. It’s a shoe height if anything. Shawn Bradley is comfortably taller than he is. It’s hilarious when people have diminished the difference between he and Bradley and say they’re the same height. That’s the exact same thing that people do when they want to make Conan 6’4” when he clearly isn’t more than about 191cm. Kobe and Barkley are both under 6’5 and he’s not within 1/2” of either player. They claim that he’s 1/4” shorter than a legit 6’4 guy just to make him 6’3.75 (as if we can see a 1/4” difference between two people that easily). In most of said pics, the difference is minimum half inch or even 2cm. Certain celebs have benchmarks here for some reason.

Editor Rob
It just seems extraordinary when you see him with guys like Shaq to think he might be as short as 7ft 4.
2 inch shrinkage for guys that height is possible, it would be interesting to find the greatest height variation from morning to night for somebody.

Well, Yao's trainer Anthony Falsone claimed Yao measured 7'5.75" w/o shoes and 7'7.25" w/ shoes in the fall of 2004 after a 21 year old Yao had measured 7'5" w/o shoes and 7'6.5" w/ shoes in summer 2002. I'm not saying that's true or false, but that is what Falsone said and it honestly looks plausible with 7'1.25" Mutombo in fall 2004: Click Here Click Here

Shane said on 4/Jul/18
A guy this size can easily lose 1.5 inches from out of bed to night. So if Yao could measure 7'5" early in morning he could dip under 7'4" easily and was measured at under 7'4" once. He might still be a bit over 7'5" barefoot out of bed. Like 7'5" 1/8 perhaps.

Rob, let’s just say hypothetically if his head is 13 inches long ( which it’s not) how big would you say Pustina’s head size is because it’s certainly larger by much??
Editor Rob
Pustina's acromegaly made his eye-chin much more prominent, but his top of head to eye wasn't that big, so overall I am not sure it would be near 13, maybe close to 12.

Some photos his head is nearer and looks bigger than it is.

@Bard: I’ll give credit to Steve Nash. He’s claimed 6’1” but I see him as a rounded 6’1” more like 6’0.5ish. Which is perfectly understandable to be honest. But more egregious offenders are like love although to his credit he said he’s 6’9” barefoot on the best day of his life which likely means the 6’7.5-.75 is accurately his afternoon height. Meaning he’s prob a touch under 6’8” really
Junior Hernandez said on 4/Feb/18
Dwight Howard might be solid 6'9 even could hit 6'9.5" if measure in the morning and 6'10 out of bed. Yao Ming lowest should have clear 7'4.5" look 7'4.75" max with 6'11.25" Kevin Garnett.

Absolutely Canson. There are a good number of offenders like Steve Nash and Kevin Love who are shorter than other players listed lower than them, yet they still stick to their claims.
Canson said on 3/Feb/18
Agreed Bard. That’s most of these listings here. There are some guys however that don’t even get near their listed heights in shoes. Some names such as Deangelo Russell comes to mind. Deangelo for sure. Russell is 6’2 range next to clarkson Kobe or Commissioner stern
Bard said on 2/Feb/18
Makes sense man. At the end of the day it isn't much of a difference. He can definitely clear 7'6 in basketball shoes, so his NBA listing is par for the course.
Canson said on 1/Feb/18
@Bard: all of that could be true. I can see Howard a hair over the 6’9” as with Durant he looks it. I have Yao around 7’4 range but a bit lower in it. Not quite 7’4.75. I’d say more 7’4-7’4.5
Bard said on 21/Jan/18
Looks around 7.5 inches on Howard tbh, Yao's head is easily 10.5 inches long. I wouldn't put Howard under 6'9.25, so Yao appears 7'4.75+ to me there. Sampson is barely looking 7'0 tbh.

3cm is possible, but Shawn and Yao should meet up again or get laser measured at the same place just to see what it actually is. You can tell Shawn is boosting his eye level by looking at the top of their ears. I'm not saying Yao can't be 7'4 range, just that he's probably closer to 7'5 most of the time.
Canson said on 20/Jan/18
@Bard: it’s at least an inch imho. Maybe not two but 1.5” or min 3cm. I also see Yao with 6’9” Dwight Howard and that’s not an 8” difference. Yao has a larger forehead but still. I wouldn’t put it past Howard to have gained maybe 1/2” and be 6’9.5 possibly. Yao still looks 7’4” range with him.

@Vegas: for the record the links you showed come from the measurements on Draft Express. So again my comment below is my reasoning. But again you have yours and I respect it. I just don’t agree with what you’re saying about it necessarily being accurate

@Derrifk: btw if you want to talk about downgrading then I can call you an upgrader saying Lebron is “nearly 6’8” like you did when he wasn’t measured that high
Vegas said on 16/Jan/18
Again the measurements are directly from the NBA and was posted on the official NBA site, the address is "Click Here"

Not sure why you argue published measurements so much and believe a supposed measurement that we have zero proof took place.
Canson said on 10/Jan/18
@Bard: 7’3.75 and 7’4 aren’t much of a difference although I agree with you. He looks generally 7’4”. But it’s a very honest and straightforward statement I made to Vegas in that if someone measures 7’4” (at that size) dipping to 7’3.75 and measuring at night it isn’t impossible.
Canson said on 10/Jan/18
@Vegas: of course if he claimed 5’11 or 8’ those would be outlandish. But he didn’t. He claimed 7’3.75 which is specific. And no the NBA measurements are not from the NBA . The disclaimer is right there on the Draft Express site. It clearly says that they did not measure anyone and that they are just printing what writers have said. So there’s my reasoning right there. And Yao has multiple measurements as does Bradley and looking at them Yao looks shorter. Yao could very easily have been measured as 7’3.75 and it could’ve been a mistake as opposed to the other we don’t know.

As far as time of the day you are wrong on that. They are not all at the same time of the day. It clearly says that 2008 was held in the afternoon and 2009 was in the morning. Not that this applies to 2002 but that shows that they are not held at the same time of the day each year like you are saying so that dispels your argument right there. If two people measure the same thing at different points in the day that explains it
Vegas said on 3/Jan/18
2 inches thing was a mistype, should have said "there is not 2 inches there".

The measurements are straight from the NBA on the official nba site not draftexpress. All measurements will take place around same time of day. I mean if yao stated he was 5'11 or 8 foot would you be trying to make a case for it?
sach said on 1/Jan/18

Editor Rob
he is added to the bball players tag now
Canson said on 28/Dec/17
@Vegas: I don’t put complete stock into what Draft Express says someone is. One example is If the measurements take place at different times of the day. Say Yao is early morning at about 7’5 and Bradley is 7’5.5 afternoon then it’s going to be possibly a 1.5” diff if Yao dips to 7’4” by the afternoon. NBA hasn’t always done 1/4 and never 1/8” increments. Not saying that is the case with either of them because we honestly do not know. But if you refer to the draft measurements then that’s the type of disparity you can see. I know from 2008 to 2009 it was mentioned that that occurred. Morning in 09 afternoon 08. Im not sure if that was the case prior to that in other years but we don’t know is all that I’m saying. And In other years I know that there were no 1/4” increments as well.
Canson said on 28/Dec/17
@Vegas and Logan: I didn’t definitively say he was 7’3 range I mentioned that he claimed it before. I also said I don’t know the validity of his measurement that’s him claiming 7’3 or the Rockets claiming to have measured him 7’6 or 7’5.5 whichever they claimed. I also said could be 1.5 or 2” so I don’t see what either of you is saying. Are you saying it’s less? I do believe Bradley is taller than Yao. Bradley was said to have measured 7’6.25 and 7’5.5. The thing with someone his size he can easily vary more in height than someone my size at 6’4 let alone someone even shorter who’s under 6’0”. So 7’5.5 could’ve been accurate or he may have grown to 7’6.25. Imho next to other players Yao looks somewhere 7’4” range. But then again someone his size can vary greatly throughout the day so it’s not unfathomable he could be 7’5 range in the morning and 7’3.75 like he claimed at night. But again I don’t know the source for a 7’3” range claim. That’s what SJH mentioned below 7’3.75 and Shaq mentioned himself on Howard Stern that he himself is 6’11” range as well. People take those as downplaying but in reality they may not be it could be that the other listed heights are off which is possible being it’s the NBA and lots of heights are off as is. I can mention players I’ve met whose heights are accurate such as Caron Butler Carmelo Anthony Keith Bogans to name a few. But have seen some players where I question their pre draft like John Wall as I have enough evidence of people being around his “supposed measurement” next to him that make him look under 6’2”.

@Vegas: you clearly said that there were 2” back on 14 Nov17. That is the pic I’m referring to.I don’t always go off pics especially not the one with Kareem and Sampson etc. That pic is angled the same way that the pic with Rock and Suh that you posted on rock’s page and even in this pic Kareem is clearly taller than Sampson they aren’t that similar in height it’s a difference of at least an inch (more like 3cm in the pic you posted) It’s maybe an inch in almost every other pic that is posted that we see of them when they were younger as well. But Sampson next to Dwight Howard is 7’0” as well next to a 6’9” guy.
Logan said on 18/Dec/17
Oh yeah by the way Canson that's not 2 inches and Bard I totally agree with you.
Logan said on 18/Dec/17
I don't see Bradley being 2 full inches taller than Yao. Bradley is always buckling his knees to try to make himself look tall. Proof, him with George Muresan who is 7,7.25 Bardley looked a tiny bit taller. I say Bradley is about 0.5 inches taller than Yao. Yao might be 7'6" but chances are barefoot, he is probaly 7'5.75.
Bard said on 17/Dec/17
Yeah I still believe he's around 7'5. The pics with Shawn are not necessarily completely trustworthy, and it is def not impossible that he grew a little since them.
Thanks for answering Rob!
Canson said on 14/Dec/17
@Vegas: could be 2 or 1.5. Bradley shows 7’5.5 and 7’6.25. Not sure the validity on Yao he claimed 7’3.75 once
Bard said on 9/Dec/17
Hey Rob, how likely do you think it was for Yao to end up at this height? His mother is listed at 6'3 and looks it, but his father looks significantly taller than his 6'7 listing, around 6'9 range. Even so, you'd still expect a son to be around 7' at most, not this much over. Thoughts?
Editor Rob
definitely helps having very tall parents, and with the right combination of tall genes you see how he ended up at the very tall end of a possible range, maybe 5-6 inches more than you might expect.
Bard said on 15/Nov/17
Honestly it barely looks like an inch difference, Vegas. Even in the other photos, Bradley is titling his head up to give the illusion of a bigger difference. Bradley also likes stretching out in his photos, whereas Yao looks more relaxed. He looks as tall as Muresan in their back-to-back though it's been confirmed that he's shorter. I don't think there's more than 1 inch between Yao and Bradley, and it's probably less today.

@Junior: I agree. That could be a morning height and could also be a situation where maybe he laid down before being measured. I could buy anywhere from 1.5-2” height loss for him. The other possibility is he may actually have been undermeasured or measured on an extreme low. He may only come down to 7’4”. I can believe Kobe measuring 6’4.75 at his lowest as a true height but for him he’s so tall it’s harder unless someone is on a chair. The one thing I will say tho is back to back with Bradley he looks a good 1.5-2” less. So Bradley 7’5.5 makes sense if Yao is right near 7’4.
Matthew Robinson said on 26/Oct/17
I can accept Yao being 223 cm at night and perhaps 227-ish cm or near it first thing in the morning. Even though he can look a little taller at times, I can believe it. It would seem especially likely given some of Yao's claims and Shawn Bradley's assessment of his height, I can see it.
Junior said on 24/Oct/17
@Canson

Yao might had the potential to drop off 1.75" during the day like out of bed at 7'5.5 and goes to bed at 7'3.75". Maybe measure in draft camp early morning at 7'5 and one time measure himself before sleep at 7'3.75".
Canson said on 21/Oct/17
@Height sky: def possible. I went with 2” just because of him saying 7’3.75 as his height. I honestly believe he was measured closer to 7’5” not 7’6. The 7’6” is a shoe height imho and he’s likely during the morning hours 7’4-7’5

@Matthew Robinson: someone who posted here (think S.J.H) once said that they saw where he said 7'3.75. That I can agree with being his height in the evening. He does look more like 7'4". But he could at that size dip from 7'5 and change to 7'3.75
Matthew Robinson said on 22/Sep/17
I wouldn't question that he's about 7'5" because he generally looks about that height a lot of the time... Except that he reportedly claims to be 7'3" barefoot: Click Here

It's hard to imagine that he's just 7'3" flat but perhaps he does fall a nibble under the 7'4" mark at night and wakes as a big 7'5"? Like 227 cm in the morning morning 223 cm night. Hard to envision him being shorter than that, but if he's claiming to actually be 7'3" it's hard to think he's really measuring 7'5"+ at night.

It's intriguing to note that, although the Chinese average for men and women is considerably less than in most countries, you always find a super-tall Chinese man and woman comfortably sneaking into the 'very tall' categories!

Canson said on 14/Mar/17
@Bard: very intelligent and love the comment! Height doesn't have any bearing on someone's credentials and don't know why people here on this site think it does

@S.J.H: well said as well! Common sense says that Yao is not as tall as Shawn Bradley. Bradley was taller all along. Yet Yao was better which sums up what I said to Bard as well. Sampson is only 7'0 tall that's the truth. People assume he was taller because people embellish Hakeem Olajuwon who was really only 6'9" and that's according to Mario Elie his own teammate (he said Dream was only 6'9"). It makes sense with what Robert Broome said about Patrick Ewing. Ewing was about 6'10" barefoot I think maybe today he's 6'9" and change. Ewing was taller than Dream and shorter than Robinson or Shaq.

@Guanzo

7'3 is close to 221cm. Yao on his own word 223cm 7'3-3/4 that might be his lowest in normal day and 7'5 was precisely 226.06cm since nba draft camp measure players mostly in the morning 6 to 7am like blake griffin mention on a youtube video. Yao ming might be 7'5.5 out bed and drop to his absolute lowest 7'3.75 losing 1.75" a day for a giant like him is normal day and another giant shawn bradley might have got one time 7'6 in early morning but dip as low as 7'5 since he was 3cm taller than Yao. Sampson is only 7'0 and precisely near 7'1 in the morning between Yao and Sampson is more like about 4" some picture Yao is closer to camera that i could understand that might fool you he was 5" taller than Sampson but not certainly not 6" and like Canson say Yao is only 4-5" taller than shaq. By the way no way Yao was 1/4" taller than shawn bradley, bradley is 3cm taller than Yao that was the truth. Don't listen to the article say by the coach. In 2008 Yao attend a tv show in china have told the host he is 223cm believe it or not in 2008 he is 28 years old and he never grow since he started draft into nba.

Click Here if you're chinese and good in the language than i you can read more on this the top of the page it mention it. I'm not chinese and i am not that fluent in mandarin but i can read some here i took chinese class since 6th grade. This article can't fool people who can read it. He did confess he was only 223cm. What time he really measure himself barefoot we don't know but truth he is only near 7'4 or we can say he is 7'4 not over
Canson said on 8/Mar/17
@Guanzo: I don't think you're a fanboy. But you're saying Yao is 6" taller than Sampson? I don't see that. And what S.J.H said has merit behind it. Yao could dip to that with his long torso and he's really only 4-5" over Shaq. I'd air toward 7'4" but don't see a full 7'5 honestly at his lowest and I agree with SJH
Canson said on 5/Mar/17
@Bard: that's feasible. He could lose 2 full inches. Like s.J.H mentioned he may come down to 7'3.75. The things to take into consideration he may have been measured improperly as tall as he is now this could be too low or too high. Either way. Maybe he wasn't really 7'6 or not really as low as 7'3.75. Maybe he wakes to 7'6 flat and gets down to 7'4 is another possibility. The thing with Yao in addition to being tall is he has thick hair. Hair that thick regardless of whether the stadio pushes it down still influences the measurement you get.
Bard said on 4/Mar/17
Completely agree Canson. Yao's height probably fluctuates around 2 inches every day. Ewing and Hakeem were more like 6'10 peak, and close to 7' in shoes. Shaq is still around 7'1 in shoes.
Canson said on 3/Mar/17
@Bard: the way to tell would be to see him against someone like Wilt or Kareem prime both 7'1ish and 7'2ish prime. Shaq's height is kinda a mystery like S.J.H said he looks sub 7'. Even a best case of Kobe at 6'5" would make shaq a solid 7'. Kobe is 6'4.75 tops tho and making shaq 6'11.5-7'0". What is more interesting is that shaq still looks two inches taller than supposed 7' guys like Ewing. I know a poster Robert Broome once said he has stood next to Rwing as he is his neighbor and that he looked 6'9" and change. Maybe Ewing has shrunken from 6'10 prime as he's in his 50s now. Yao next to a 6'11.5-7'0" Shaq looks 7'4"-7'4.5 tops imho. Not 7'5" but 7'5" he would measure earlier in the day easily maybe 7'5.5 and 7'6 out of bed. He can easily lose 1.5" per day
Bard said on 2/Mar/17
I don't think Ming has ever tried to exaggerate his height. There's even an article that says he told the interviewer that he was only 7'3 without shoes. I seriously doubt he's that low, he probably just didn't care and shortchanged himself. Pretty much everyone who's been seen with him would also have to be downgraded in that case, as he looks at least 7'5 in just about every pic, especially with supposed 7 footers. This is a guy who is reminded perhaps hundreds of times every day how tall he is, and he is almost certainly sick of it. This listing is very fair.
S.J.H said on 26/Feb/17
Shawn Bradley draft measurement is 7'5.5 and took off the half inch from morning measurement he is 7'5 and comparison with Yao he seem to look 3cm taller not 2" as he thought. Bard said on 22/Jan/17
Fair point, I can certainly buy 7'5 and change. Just going by his minimum height. He could be close to 7'7 out of bed, and he certainly looks over 7'5 with Sampson.
His head is at least 2" bigger than mine lol, even though mine is fairly large for my height at close to 10". I was just talking about the distance from eyebrows to top being 1" more than mine.
Bard said on 19/Jan/17
Yao's head is massive, and Sampson barely reaches his eyebrows. I'm 6' and it's 4 inches from my eyebrows to the top of my head. Yao's distance must be easily 5 inches, so he's at least that much taller than Sampson, going by that picture. I'm gonna stick with 7'5 barefoot, but Sampson would have to be barely 7' nowadays then.
Canson said on 19/Jan/17

6 foot tall said on 19/Dec/16
Ok, please allow me to end this debate once and for all. The photos of Yao Ming standing back to back against Shawn Bradley were taken during Yao's rookie year when he was 22 yrs old. As the Rockets coaching staff has confirmed, YAO MING GREW ANOTHER INCH DURING HIS ROOKIE YEAR SO THAT WHEN HE RETURNED THE FOLLOWING SEASON, HE WAS MEASURED PRECISELY at 7-6 without shoes and 7-7+ with shoes on. That's why Shaq said after one game when he got outplayed by Yao that Yao was 7-7 and supposed to do that. The growth is not surprising for a 22 yr old giant since Anthony Davis at 23 grew an inch from 6-10 to 6-11 (with shoes on though). Even during his rookie year, Yao was same height as Bradley at the top of the head. In one photo Yao was obviously slouching whereas Shawn was standing upright. In the other photo (Click Here) Yao was also standing upright and you can clearly see that though Bradley's eyes sit higher, giving the appearance of being slightly taller, the top of their heads is actually level. I think if you have Yao in 2016 standing back to back against Bradley, you will clearly see that Yao is a bit taller. Anyhow Yao is in the Hall of Fame as 7-6 and therefore will officially be that tall forever. PLEASE STOP HATING AND CHANGE YAO'S HEIGHT TO 7-6.

Most legit 7 footers are so tall that people regularly guess them at something much taller than they actually are. Ming Yao's billed height is fine because not only he's close to it, but his true giant frame can make people guess him at something much taller than what he claims.
Canson said on 21/Sep/16
@S.J.H: that's certainly possible. Even possible he's a full 7'6 out of bed and drops to 7'3.75 they can lose a lot meaning 7 footers. I never thought he looked 7'6 esp when Shaq dips below 7 at the end of the day by a hair. I saw about 4" on most occasions sometimes 5". I'd still call Shaq a 7 footer but he likely dips to 6'11.75 like he once said

I believe yao was 7'5.5 out of bed an early morning and goes down at 223cm 7'3.75 specifically and the 7'6 listing could be the kind of height with shoe from draft in the morning yao could be like 225cm with bigger insole shoe at 229cm 7'6 and they just submitted 7'6 for Yao and strongly suggested 7'3.75 was a noon height measure by his wife or maybe own measurement
Canson said on 5/Sep/16
@Bard: possible of course but that's a specific number. I think if anything an argument could be made he was under measured (not standing straight or proper) or that's his lowest
Bard said on 28/Aug/16
I'm sure Yao is being modest when giving his absolute minimum height of 7' 3.75". When you're THAT tall, is there really any need to exaggerate?
Canson said on 26/Aug/16
@S.J.H: i can see him measuring 7'3 3/4 at his lowest. I always wondered why he was listed 7'6 in Rockets workouts and assumed barefoot but he wasn't as tall as Shawn Bradley. You do lose height maybe 2" at that size but I could never see him being that tall barefoot when Bradley even was measured as low as 7'5.5 once. Frankly I don't think he's much taller than a Mark Eaton or even Kareem. Easily be over 7'5 out of bed though. The problem when people discuss height in a conversation (at least these days) is that it is deemed "insulting" to say someone is shorter than they "actually" are and ppl don't want to downgrade. Instead, it's well "person A" (who claims but we've never seen them actually measure) Is ABC, you must be at least XYZ because he/she/you are taller. It's never well You aren't that height because he is a legit "XYZ" and you aren't as tall.

I honestly can see Yao being over 7'6 out of bed and 7'4 range maybe 7'4.5-7'4.75 at the end of the day (which is why KROC guessed him 7'4). Bradley was measured back in the day when it was later I can see a good 7'7 out of bed and 7'5.5 at his lowest if he really measured that low (like they claim he did) but he always traditionally looked 7'6 with the other trees like Manute Bol (rest in peace) and Muresan. He and Bol were shorter than Muresan
Editor Rob
if you photographed from 7ft 4-5 range, any difference might be more noticeable, shooting from 5ft 6 or eyelevel of an average man might reduce differences at the height of these guys.

Found some interesting facts around the net, all from official Rockets publications and a newspaper:

"According to Jonathan Feigen, who covers the Houston Rockets for The Houston Chronicle newspaper, and Carroll Dawson, the General Manager of the Houston Rockets, Yao Ming, although incorrectly listed at 7-5 without shoes in his NBA draft bio, was actually measured at 7-5 1/2 without shoes. The NBA mistakenly listed him at only 7-5 without shoes on in his draft bio, but he actually measured at 7-5 1/2. Feigen and Dawson also report that by the time Yao arrived in Houston, in October of 2002, he was measured officially at 7-6 barefoot (internet link here, citing officials from the Rockets indeed having measured him at 7-6 barefoot when he first arrived in Houston as he had grown 1/2". Finally, Dawson and Feigen claim that by the end of Yao's 2nd year in the league he had grown another 1/4". Dawson and Feigen claim that Yao therefore ended up at a height of 7-6 1/4" in height barefoot."

Shawn Bradley, from what I remember was less than 1 inch shorter than legit 7'7" Gheorghe Muresan, so I think it makes sense that he is at his very least a solid 7'6" guy:

The acceptable picture of Yao with Shawn Bradley (not the one with the weird angle) favors Shawn a little, since his head is looking up and Yao's looking down:

and Yao looks a solid 5 inches taller than legit 7'1.25" Dikembe Mutombo, an both have a very similar stance:

So I think the difference between Bradley and Yao might be actually less. Shawn Bradley I believe is a legit 7'6"-76.25" / 229cm and Yao could be more 7'5.75" / 228cm. With Bradley at 7'6.25" and Yao at 7'5.75" the half inch edge that people claim as the least between them stays the same...still it's just 2cm taller, but again this could help explain why Yao seems to edge 7'1" guys like Ralph Sampson or Mutombo by more than 10cm (4 inches) and dwarfs Shaq, whom I presume is more a 7'0" / 213cm guy.
Canson said on 26/May/16
Lol. So People are now calling Bradley 7'7 or 7'7.5 just to make Yao 7'6? That is ridiculous. Bradley was measured 7'6.25 and 7'5.5 supposedly. So No way he's 7'7+.maybe the 7'5.5 was weak as I believe he's 7'6. But Im with KROC on this one. He met him Yao in person and stood next to him and classified him as 7'4 range. If anything, Yao is the full 7'5 as listed, Bradley the full 7'6 as listed. But This "inflating" of someone just to accommodate another person is a crock and don't get why people do it so often in real life and here

Look at the photo on Shaq's celebheights page of them back to back - that is definitive proof ( to me anyway ) that Yao is Huge and Shaq isn't as tall as listed. He is well proportioned which makes him exceptional at that height. He seems to be an awesome dude and is a great giant.

Yao always seems like a strong 7'5" if not full 7'6". As for what he thought his barefoot height was? I have a feeling Yao was kept in a bubble somewhat during his playing days. According to pre-draft measurements he was measured at 7'5" barefoot and 7'6" in shoes. Maybe he was never really told his barefoot height or there was a unit conversion misunderstanding?

Greenbolt said on 22/Oct/14
@KROC: Interesting how you put Yao that "low". I understand your uncertainty in regards to how you measured up against him, but if you really only came up to his shoulder at 6'5'', that's suggesting a difference of a foot or so, and likely more when you consider his absolutely gargantuan head.

In the photos of Yao and Shaq back when Yao first came into the NBA and Shaq was on the Lakers, there looks to be about four inches difference between the 6'11.5'' or so Shaq and Yao, putting Yao at around 7'4'' once you take into account the fact that Shaq always wore those huge shoes that gave him boosted height. However, I don't think it's improbable that someone of Yao's enormous stature grew well into his twenties, and I think pictures from Yao at 22 and now bear this out. I mean, my god, in that recent pic of them, Yao looks 7 inches taller.

LOL at a 7'3" Ming. It's SO obvious seeing him compared to anybody else in every picture he's taken in every setting he's been in,to make clear 7'3" is way too short. 7'5" and some change is where I see him. He holds 4-6 inches on a 6'11"-7" Shaq.

I think this picture shows you how unreliable NBA heights are. Yao is towering the supposed 7'4'' Ralph Sampson. Also, next to 6'10'' Hakeem Olajuwon, Dwight Howard looks no more than the 6'9'' barefoot he was measured at when he was 18.

There is no way Yao Ming is 7'3''. Dikembe Mutombo is 7'2'' and his pre-draft measurement was 7'1.25''. In this picture Yao Ming looks 4.5 inches taller than Dikembe Mutombo.
The Back to back pictures with 7'5 1/2" Shawn Bradley are irrelevant because those are from his rookie season which was before Yao's 7'5 3/4" measurement. Those pictures which show Bradley taller have nothing to do with the claim that he grew a year or 2 later.

Here Yao looks atleast 4 1/2" inches taller than Dikembe Mutombo in 3 pictures with similar posture, a great angle to tell and 2 of the 3 pictures are full body shots.

Yao also has a solid 4-5 inches on 7'1" Shaq and 5-6 inches on 6'11.75" Kevin Garnett. Yao's height is quite simple, he was 7'5" in 2002 and grew to 7'5 3/4" sometime before September 2004. I don't know if he was actually measured 7'4" in May of 2002 or if that measurement was a mistake but he was officially measured 7'5" by the NBA not long after that. Yao looks 7'6" now and has for the last 4 years so the 7'5.75" measurement from 2004 is probably correct.

shaun he measured 7'5 barefoot and 7'6.5 in sneakers not 7'4.75 or 3'3 or 10'7 or any other number, the nba released all details of players measured height with shoes and barefoot, their Standing Reach etc, the pdf was available to view online up to a few weeks ago and it was from the nba direct, there is no need to guess this stuff basketball players are measured barefoot and in shoes, dwayne wade e.g measures 6'3.75 barefoot and 6'5 in sneakers, you assume that all players are listed in their footwear height, not true, if that was the case surely chris bosh listed at 6'10 is only 6'8 something in reality?? then conan o brien is no more than 6'2 and that drops dolph lundgren down to 6'1, shawn bradley would be 7'4 range too because he was listed 7'6, bradley was measured 7'5.75 barefoot
Shaun said on 16/Aug/11
Why did they list him at 7-6 then? He cocked an eyebrow in a "you tell me" kind of way."

Because they measure baskebtall players in basketball sneakers which are known to give about 1.25" inches. It is possible he measures 7'4.5" barefoot and 7'5.75" in sneakers so gets listed at 7'6". I really don't think basketball heights are inflated. They are just not barefoot measurements and are often rounded up that's all. You want height inflation check out WWF.

When, at long last, he reached his hotel room, I was granted an interview with Yao and his then-ever-present translator, Colin Pine.

Maybe I was there an hour or two, but however long it was, it was long enough to "cut the crap."

Five minutes would have been long enough, in fact.

The whole massive entity of Yao was infused with sincerity, humility, fun and warmth of spirit -- the things I guess most people imagine they would find in the celebrities.

He rattled off all kinds of truths, for instance that he wasn't anything like his listed 7-foot-6. Without shoes, he said, he was 7-3. Photos would show Shawn Bradley -- listed at the same height -- was taller.

Why did they list him at 7-6 then? He cocked an eyebrow in a "you tell me" kind of way.

We need to be cautious about promoting bigger size in children and future generations. While a small number of tall or big people is not a problem, a world filled with large people presents many threats to human survival as shown in the research papers linked below.

Re: US researcher warns that worldwide increase in body size, independent of obesity, is a threat to human survival.

Many environmentalists believe that the increasing world population threatens human survival. However, they ignore the worldwide increase in body size for over 100 years. Yet, 7 billion larger people, whether through muscle or fat, require huge amounts of food, energy, resources, and money to support. In addition, larger people produce more waste, pollution and environmental damage.

A new paper provides an exceptional view of human body size and its ramifications in terms of human health and survival and was just published in World Health, a journal of the World Public Health Nutrition Association. The editor of the University of California
