Austrian actor best remembered for roles in films such as Jules & Jim, Fahrenheit 451, Interlude, Ship of Fools, Voyage of the Damned, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and The Shoes of the Fisherman. In a 1967 biography yearbook he his height and weight were described as such: "Werner is five feet nine inches tall and weighs about 145"

@Sam I think Jules and Jim was the first film of his I saw so I wasn't familiar with him at the time and can only vaguely remember him in it!

Yeah, Werner was also top knotch in Jules & Jim, IMO his character was the most identifiable with of the love triangle in that.

BTW if anybody's not seen Ship of Fools, watch it, it's a masterpiece IMO. The acting between Werner and Signoret in particular is among the finest film acting of all time.

Thanks, yeah 5 ft 9 seems OK, you could look a strong 5 ft 9 with Julie Christie in Fahrenheight and Signoret in Ship, but oddly looked 5'7.5-5'8 next to Richard Burton in Spy. Burton had to have been wearing lifts!! He was a great actor, but for some reason the bulk of his great roles seemed to all come at once. He became an alcoholic recluse, perhaps there was a reason why he couldn't keep it up.

it wouldn't surprise me Burton in some films slipped something into his shoes, or at least boots.
