@JJF: he was measured at just over 6ft2 when competing in the Mr. Universe competition
JJF said on 10/Jun/15
@Rampage - Connery was never 189 barefoot. Where have you seen any evidence of this?
Connery always looked an inch taller than 6'0.5" Moore, and on a par with Michael Caine when they were young. Plenty of evidence to suggest Connery was 1.86 (perhaps 1.87m at the very most) in the 1960's/70's
Z186 said on 29/May/15
Met him at one of his talk shows recently, at 86, he was 5'10 - 5'11 range... peak was definitely 1.87m during the morning/day I think.

Roger always looked an inch shorter than Connery (who was 1.87m at the very most, peak) on all the pics from the 70's so I'd say 1.85 is a good guess at his peak height during his 007 days
dietmar said on 14/Mar/15
Christopfer Lee was surely peak 196cm. He was at least 3cm taller than Vincent Price, who was 193cm. Lee was 12cm taller than Roger Moore in The Man with the golden gun.

That would make Roger Moore around 184cm.

Rob me and my dad watched man with the golden gun earlier and my dads reckons roger moore looked around 4 inches shorter than Christopher lee in that movie.
I personally think 6'1 1/2 always looked a stretch for Moore and i think 6'1 flat is much more easier to picture.
Editor Rob
if Moore shrunk 1 inch nearly then you could say he was a 6ft 1-1.25 guy by afternoon, I think he is probably telling the truth about the straight out of bed, being near 6ft 2.

5ft 11 range today is quite likely, for 87 years old he still looks not bad!

Aren't you American Rampage? Seems unusual for you to have seen it if so. Agree, its a great film but I love British productions from that period and the ITC production type of look and decor and cast. I'd have to disagree with you on him looking 6 ft 2 and towering in it. He was barely taller than Anton Rogers who I think was about 6ft. He looked rather tall next to some actors in it true. I think 6ft 1-6'1.5 more likely than 6 ft 2.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 27/Nov/14
The Man Who Haunted Himself is an underrated classic. Moore was brilliant in it and could actually appear close to 6ft2. He towered over everyone.

In pictures I can look 6'2. But I'm not. It's the same with Moore. Can pass for taller, but never more than a solid 6'1 at peak.

Jake, Moore said he was wearing lifts in "A View to a Kill". He turned 57 during filming.
He's always been honest about wearing a small hairpiece to cover his bald spot in all seven Bond movies, and having doubles for scenes where he had to run, so why would he lie about his footwear?
Moore was six foot at his peak, just over five foot ten now.
Sandy said on 1/Apr/14
I don't think it was only in "A View to a Kill" that Moore was wearing lifts. Of course it was probably the producer's decision. In "Dr No" all the sets and furniture were smaller than they would be in reality so Connery would look larger.

we dont know if he wore lifts all the time. i dont think he cares too much about it but the producers may have wanted him to at least have an inch advantage. its hard to say but i think 6'1 is a fair listing for him. is it possible he was 6'0.75 and wore 2 inch heels at times to appear 6'1.25-6'1.5 guy? sure! but 6'0.5 flat is too low for him peak.

Even next to 6'4 -6'5 guys he isn't really much much shorter. Like you say a good 3-3.25 shorter Lee. Even if Lee was 6'4.25 Moore still could be a very strong 6'1.

just ask Rob. theres about 3-4 tops in that movie. if you look at the infamous still of them back to back you can say 3.5 tops AND Lee's head is raised a touch more so i'd say 3.
And NO!! its not 5 inches normally from eyeline to top of head its about 4.5 for a head like Lee. And in addition Moore makes it well past the eyebrows of Lee let alone the eyeline! in other words IF Moore came up to Lee's eyebrow it would be 4 inches or so. clearly he does not so 3-4 area is just a common sense estimate. im saying 6'1 for Moore and 6'4.5 for Lee tops.
you should expect to debate on an opinion site so not sure why you are so surprised.
Mark said on 30/Jan/14
Avi, is it? I appreciate you're reminding me to "check my posts before I post". I never thought of that, especially on this site, AN OPINION SITE. I've watched Golden Gun a million times, and seen dozens of photos of Lee with Moore. There's a minimum 4 inch difference, and more often than not, 5. When one's eyeline is at or above someone's head, hair not included, it's 5 inches. And please, check what you post before you actually post. Why I'm wasting my time arguing, I can't begin to fathom. I don't even know what point you're trying to make; About Moore's height or Lee's?! Don't answer. It's rhetorical. There's some paint drying somewhere I've got to go watch or something. Anything.

You got to be joking man. Theres no more than 3-3.5 . Please Check what you post before you actually post. Moore is 6'1. Looks more 6'1 than Lee looks 6'5. 6'4-6'4.5 for Lee.

I saw Roger Moore standing on a street corner in Paris in 1979. I couldn't reliably say how tall he was, but he seemed big, by which I mean, large, athletic and strong. He was wearing his hair in the same brylcreemed pompadour that he affected when he was young, which I thought was kind of charming. He was well into his forties then and, wealthy and successful as he was, and still handsome too, he was nostalgic for his youth.

If Moore lost 1 or more inches in height, I don´t think he´s lost them in the seventies. By that time, his posture used to be so elegant and impeccable as in the sixties. Besides, he was in his forties/initial fifties of age. So, my conclussion is: if he looked 6´ in the seventies, is because that´s always been his top height.

The question is: why should a man standing 6´1" (or even a little bit taller)wear shoes with higher heels than regular size (1 inch). The answer is: no reason. Conclusion: in his prime, he wasn´t taller than 6´0,5"/6´,0,25".

Moore was 6-1 during his prime bond years, I have to say he is easily the most professor like of all the Bond actors. Does not come across as an action hero tough guy. The tallest Bond was Timothy Dalton, Dalton comes across as a tougher and more rugged Bond, not as Bourne like as Craig but clearly very masculine.

Roger was the shortest Bond after Craig (178), but what an amazing, classy and funny guy he has always been!. 183 is fine for him in his prime, I mean in the 60's and 70's. In the 80's he lost some height and was near the 181 cm. You can notice that in "A view to a kill", when he stands next to Walken (180).

Rob. why does Roger Moore say he is 6'1 then? In his book "My Word Is My Bond" Moore states his dialogue director Joe Graham says "you're 6'1? why do you only stand 5'10? stand 6'1" Roger didn't say he was more. Also in a Saint episode he says 6'2 but may have just been for the character. Rob, do you think he was a strong 6'1 (now hes 6'0 flat most likely at 84) which is why you gave him over 6'1??
Editor Rob
very early in his career he came out with the 6ft 2 in the morning. He could be 6ft 1 at night for sure then.

I don't think Moore could have possibly been over 6'2 at any hour of the day , at any time of his life .
He's noticeably shorter than Elliott Gould in "Escape To Athena" . Check a few clips here :
Watch this one from 03:04 to 03:40 and then from 12:38 to 14:00
I admit that the shots aren't that good , but if Elliott was only 6'2 like he claimed to be , it's clear that Moore wasn't as tall as 6'1.5 by then .
Here are a few clips from the same movie where Moore appears alongide 5'11 David Niven :

12.01 - 13.05
08.35 - 09.00

Moore actually seems to struggle with a full 6'1 there . Maybe he had already lost a bit of height ? I suppose it's possible since he was in his 50's , but Niven was actually older than him .
I doubt Roger was ever taller than 185 cm at peak .

Roger Moore is no more than 6'0(183cm). I was watching him in the man with the golden gun standing back to back with Christopher Lee and christopher lee is a convincing 6'5(196cm) as he towered over Moore a good 4 1/2 inch maybe 5 inches taller so at a push I would give Moore a 6'1/2in (184cm) at most.

He's nearly as tall as Julius Harris in their scenes together, Harris is nearly 6'4", and he was taller than Hedison by a good inch, who would have been nearly 6'1" then. There are a lot of tall actors in Live and Let Die.

Yes, he was "un-lifted" in Live and Let die, that's why he looks 1.83m (6ft) and nothing more throughout the entire movie.

He still looked considerably taller than Paul O'Grady on his recent appearances on the show. O'Grady is listed as 6'1" on celebheights. On the same show he looked 3" taller than the 5'11" Jerry Hall. Atleast 184 now, maybe 'moore'.

6'1 and 6'2 makes no sense as he is
considerably shorter(2.5 inches or more) than Sean Connery
who was 189 cm peak.
Where is the logic in this? Scroll
down and check the picture I gave

One can see clearly that Connery is a big
man and Connery more medium/average.
His peak might be 6 feet, but I doubt it
strongly. 5'10-5'11.

According to the James Bond film tailors in London, at 6' 1.75" he is the tallest of all the Bond actors. The tailors who have fitted and measured each of the 5 Bonds over the years claim the following heights for each of the other Bond actors: Sean Connery 6' 1 1/2" without shoes, George Lazenby 6' 1 1/2" without shoes, Roger Moore 6' 1.25" without shoes and Pierce Brosnan 6' 1.25" without shoes.
Daniel said on 4/Apr/09
In the movie "Live and Let Die" Roger Moore didn't look taller than 6 ft even (1.83m). He couldn't have been 6'1'' unless all the black dudes of the cast had been 6'3'' on average, which in my opinion is unreasonable.

It is clear Moore was never quite 6'2" although he came close at peak. Tall man but looked very average compared to Christopher Lee who loomed above even near 6'2" guys.

Roger did start looking a bit shorter in the 80's, but 6'2" peak height is right. He still looked 6'1" next to 5'9" Jean-Claude Van Damme in The Quest which was made in 1996. I haven't seen him in a movie that was made after that so I couldn't say how tall he is these days.

Tubbs said on 24/Feb/09
He looked taller than Michael Caine in a show they did about the BBC wardrobe department together, and there were plenty of good shots on that show to judge....Connery has never been 3" taller than Roger. If you check the 1988 oscars Roger looks a fraction taller than Sean, I would put money on them looking virtually the same height today, as Sean doesn't have great posture for a 6'2" guy, and Roger has impeccable posture. Also check out the Sea Wolves, barefooted next to 6'3.5" Greg Peck in shoes, the difference is only 2", when both in uniform there is probably 4cm difference. 6'2" when younger, atleast 6'1" today.

Echoing what Tubbs said below I also thought he still looked 6'0.5"-6'1" on his recent TV appearances judging by his height in relation to others. ANybody who thinks he is 5'10" or below are seriously incorrect, he had 2 inches (at least) on Jerry Hall who is 5'11!! I remember seeing them together and thinking, wow he must be at least 6 even.
Doug said on 7/Feb/09
Ali does have a point though about the difference between him and Connery. Connery isn't even standing up straight and appears to have 2 inches on him. I can't see Moore under six feet at peak he was about 3-4 inches shorter than Christopher Lee who was a clearly 6'5" at peak at least. I think 6 ft 1.5 in (187 cm) is very accurate. Been watching his films all these years and sorry he just looks too tall compared to the average guys to not have been over six foot. Compared to many he has always looked tall in his films not massive but certianly 6'1". Those who think he was only 5'9" are ridiculous. I am a little confused though by his 5'11" look next to Connery.

there's a 1963 episode of "the saint" called "starring the saint" in which Simon Templar(Moore) is asked to star in a movie about his life!!In a scene in this episode he meets a film director who asks him his height and Moore as Simon Templar says 6'2".However,personally i believe Moore's peak height was 6'1".

6ft0.5 to 6ft1 for Moore these days and 6ft2 peak.

okay im sorry if i've upset a few people but im just and I mean just giving my honest opinion on this, and remember its my opinion,I never said your wrong.Im not trying to change views Its just the way I see things, after seeing someone like roger at a big height I'd literally think that hes not its literally how I see things ,its naterul reaction not changing other peoples view.

In his new book "my word is my Bond", he indirectly reveals his height as "six -foot -one". This was a reference to his younger days though. It is possible I suppose that he was around the 186-187cm range as a young man. Being 80 yrs old, he's obviously lost maybe 4cm in height. There's that famous pic of him stood back to back from the "Man with the Golden Gun" with the great Christopher Lee.(6'4") Roger looks 6ft plus in that picture. What do people think? Mr Lee has got his head stretched upwards though?

I remember he was on stage with Michael Parkinson and he Parky asked him about his height. Roger said 6'1.5" but he was referring to his youth. I can accept 6'1" for him in his youth. He did look quite tall. Never 6'2" though.

I believe his 6'2" claim. Probably only about 6'0" now though. Very similar height to Arnold Schwarzenegger as far as peak and current height.

No Harry, Deano is just being ridiculous. He's saying that Connery was 6ft at his peak and is now a shade under 5ft11! Daniel Craig is 5ft6.5, Pierce Brosnan is 5ft9.5. Deano, you really are thick as a plank.

This is ridiculous!
Roger Moore peak= 186 cm, Now= 183 cm
To proove that heels doesn't play a factor...
In a scene in Live and Let Die, he is seen wearing dress shoes made of aligator skin without a substantial heel standing about 2" shorter than 6'3.5" Julius Harris.
By the way, Jonathan Ross= 6'1.5"

Hugh and Deano: Interesting guys, I agree, Johnathon Ross is maybe a solid 6ft, to a possible 6'1". I couldn't believe how short roger was. I think 5'9" -5'10" is possibly closer to the truth. I relise he is 80 and could have shrunk 2-2.5", but he always wore high heels in the Bond movies. I don't wish to lower Roger Moore in any way, he is and has always been a class act. But I felt the same. Another strange thing, if you look in his new autobiographt "My Word is My Bond" - there is a picture of all the Bonds except Connery stood in a line on either side of Parky. Moore looks tiny in comparison to the other bond actors. Maybe at he was a good six feet when he was a younger man.

my guess at roger moores real height 5 ft 10 1/2

and the people who get heights from "apparantly" their cvs could be just false information.I look at peoples height from the prospective of their body build and height.
deano said on 24/Oct/08
now evryone if you want to, take everything that I said and you should be able to get good appropriate and resonable height for the celebs.
deano said on 24/Oct/08
now I've seen ordinary people who are 6 ft 2 and they look much bigger than roger moore, now lol if roger moore were 6 ft 2 he'd look abit lets say different now that I dont want to put anything rude,no what Im saying is that keeping they roger moores 5ft 10 body the way it is, and just upscaling it to 6 ft 2 ,again I dont to sound rude, but alot different to other people.
