American actor and comedian from the Silent Era of cinema, best remembered for roles in Tango Tangles, Miss Fatty's Seaside Lovers, The Bell Boy, The Butcher Boy, The Garage, Moonshine, The Rough House, Back Stage, The Bank Clerk and Gasoline Gus. In a Photoplay article from 1916 it quoted him saying: "I am the only man my size and weight the New York Life Insurance Company will issue a policy to. I am five feet, eleven inches tall and weigh three hundred and eighty-five pounds which is forty percent more than the law allows."

Rob you might want to do a redirect or something because a google search Fatty Arbuckle height doesn't pick up this page. Only about 5 ft 9 but could look a massive guy on screen an quite tall compared to people like Buster Keaton. Without comparison you could buy him as easily 6 ft.

@Sam: He was also really strong and agile (much more the former) despite his size, so whether he was 385 pounds or not, that helped him pull off certain stunts.

Looked around 300 pounds I thought, 320 max. Rob's challenger 15 on the otherhand, now he might not be far off 385 pounds.

5'9" before 1950 thereabouts is equivalent to a 5'11" guy today statistically and observationally speaking, so Roscoe was above average for the time. Also, regarding Sam's statement, I really don't think he would exaggerate his weight (at least not that much) especially when applying for insurance.

So looked about 4 inches over Buster Keaton? I wonder if 385 pounds is also an exaggeration. He looked big but I think he'd be too obese to do the physical comedy he pulled off.
