hi rob, in respect of taro’s passing back in april 2024 could you please update his page accordingly? rest in peace legend

I’d have done 6’7.5”. Matches up with his 6’7 claim better than 6’7.75

And there you have it! @Jordan87 being a notorious downgrader as per usual!
Daniel Lee said on 28/Jun/22
Good downgrade. I agree with this listed
Vincent Caleb said on 8/May/22
6’7” flat is too low for his peak. A solid 6’7.5” is more likely
Canson said on 7/Oct/21
I think a good start would be to drop the peak to 6’7”. 204 is a shoe height so maybe 6’7.5 or 6’7.25. He wasn’t 6’8 though

6'4.25" MEASURED Bob Sapp makes Akebono no taller than 6'5.5". Ake Said he was 6'5 at 18, he didn't grow much more after that.
ChaosControl 6'2.5/189.2cm said on 19/May/21
202.5, not a full 6’8 more like 6’7.75
Canson said on 5/Feb/21
@Editor Rob: you think he grew 3” from 18 on?
Editor Rob
a couple of inches anyway
Canson said on 3/Dec/20
Are we sure the 204 wasn’t a billed height or inflated? Maybe 6’7.5 peak afternoon

I think he lost more height than many others, what with weighing 500+ pounds all those years

Is akebono(peak height) taller than undertaker and kane(peak)?
Deathvalley99 said on 17/Jan/20
it should be the other way around because viscera in this pic is taller than taro by a lot, but in footwear advantage. For me he looks the same height
Deathvalley99 said on 16/Jan/20
Who do you think is taller, Akebono or viscera? judging from this pic

Editor Rob
The angle probably doesn't help Viscera, and might favour Taro

In the early 2000s, several MMA magazines listed Akebono’s height as 6’9”, however, in his fight against Royce Gracie at K-1 Premium 2004 Dynamite, he was billed at 203 cm (6’8”). I think he was probably a legit 6’8” (peak). Because very tall, very heavy people tend to lose more height as they age than shorter people do, Akebono might be 6’6” to 6’7” today.
Vexacus said on 9/Mar/18
I think he's 6'6.5 but def . looks 200 cm

Weird that Pride FC actually seems to have listed him accurately. I mean, this is the same organization that had Bob Sapp at 2m, Giant Silva at 2.3m, Sakuraba at 1.85 and Renzo Gracie at 1.80...

Hey rob, he said at 18 he was 6'5; did he freakin gain more inches?

Of course he did. He has several inches in the above pic with 6'4"+ Bob Sapp. I think he still looks around 6'7" imo. Could have been the full 6'8" 20 years ago.

Bob has said his actual height is 6'3 3/4"...and Akebono has about 3" on him. Bob's head is tilted down slightly, so it may even be slightly less than 3"

Wow, I'm quite sure he must have exceeded 400 pounds, easily, with that bulk at that height (maybe pushing near 500?) Also that height for a Japanese fellow is similar to a seven footer in America I think.

Speaking of massive Japanese men, I've wondered what height that giant actor from the Kurosawa film Yojimbo (who clearly had acromegaly) stood at.

Easily weighed 460-480 pounds at a bare minimum and wouldn't rule out 565 pounds at his heaviest.
Logan said on 1/Feb/18
Looked almost as tall as 6'11" Big Show so I say 6'7" normally but peak 6'8"

Everyone has to remember that he’s extremely overweight and willl likely lose at least an inch prob even a bit more in a normal day. He could easily be 6’8” out of bed if he’s the height rob has him listed here

@Tall Sam

He became a naturalized Japanese citizen but his ethnicity is Hawaiian, not Japanese.

If Akebono was 6’8” in the early 2000s when he fought Royce Gracie, than I think Royce might be a bit taller than his 6’0” claim. It would make sense, since Royce’s whole brand was built around fighting and defending much larger opponents, so maybe he (Royce) underrepoted his own height a bit.

Just food for though.

Thanks for adding him!

In 2003 definitly had more height on Bob Sapp than he had in 2015. For evening peak I think he wasn´t under 6´7.5", he looks only a solid 6´6" today, maybe 6´6.5".

Looked ~3" shorter than 6´10.5"-6´11" Big Show both barfoot.

He was measured 204cm then 203cm then 204cm then 203.5cm Click Here

I think the sumo measurements were morning measurements, imo he could at peak measure 205cm right out of bed, 204cm early morning, 203cm late morning and 202cm evening.

Definitly a bit taller at peak than guys like Undertaker, Kane, Giant Haystacks...

Giant Baba at peak would have 0.5"-1" on peak Akebono

Rob, I think he should also be included under the mma fighter tag.

yeah, that will raise the mma average height!
