I think that this guy should be knocked back to 6'5''. He was in the film IQ with the English actor Stephen Fry who is himself 6'4.5''. Robbins was I seem to recall a little taller. Not by much but you could see a difference.
Viper652 said on 19/Sep/06
Gus, 6-7? Thats a huge stretch man.
Gonzalo said on 19/Sep/06
Gus, the guy you mention in the player is Vincent D`Onofrio, listed here at 6`3 1/2. There is also a pic of him next to Glenn. He looked slightly shorter than Robbins in thta movie. However, there are people in this site who says D`Onofrio was taller. Different opinions
Gus said on 19/Sep/06
The film in wich he does a lineup scene is Robert Altman's "The Player". Incidentally, in that movie, the guy he fights and almost kills (is a suspect in the murder) is about his height. I don't know the name of the actor but I've seen him in other movie and he's really tall! But again, Tim never stand straight up alongside no one. He's allways bended forward like is a shame about being so much tall than anyone around him. That's my theory. The man looks at his height as a curse, or something like that (sorry for the misspelling, I'm portuguese...)

All the info on the net is very inaccurate. We can only judge by comparaison. He looks taller than Vaughn, Conan, Freeman, Will Ferrel, who are - definetly - all above 6"2/6"3. And taller than the tallest guy on 90's SNL (I don´t remember his name, I think is Kevin Nealon?). I saw one episode where Tim hosted and he was the tallest guy around. And bearfooted! In the final farwell he offered flowers to his wife (who was in the audience) and was barefooted among everyone and (much more) taller than all the people on stage. I thing is shy about is heigth (he may consider it as an handicap in is business) and is always bended or bear footed. If he stands vertically, chin up, he could near to 2 meters high (almost 6"7)

I would consider Ryan Styles to be huge.
Cantstop25 said on 12/Sep/06
Can anybody find a photo of him shorter then somebody? I cant I cant recall anybody ever looking taller then him. I have also yet to see somebody taller then Jimmy Smits (6'3") or Ryan Styles {6'6"} there not really huge its just that they re alwasy around short people... well Ryan is jsut alwasy around the same people.
So can anybody find a photo of any of these three NOT being the tallest.
Alex said on 14/Aug/06
If you all try seeing by google you will see that everything is almost correct... For example: 6 ft 4.5 inch = 194.31 centimeters ;
6 ft 5 inch = 195.58 centimeters ; 6 ft 6 inch = 198.12 , centimeters and so on... You can see that the difference between 6ft4.5 inch and 6ft5 is irrelevant but is enough for us to see when two person are close to each other
wavemaster said on 22/Jul/06
6'4 1/2 looks more like it. it also sounds cooler.
J. said on 20/Jul/06
What convinced you to downgrade him, Rob?
[Editor Rob: just giving him what he wants to be known as, 4.5 not 5.]
Jake said on 19/Jul/06
I think he would be the same height as Vince Vaughn too - 6'4.5"+.
sam said on 11/Jul/06
Unfortunately, in Robbins's and Vaughn's only film as a co-stars, Anchorman, they do not appear in the same shot (although they do appear in the same scenes).
Larry said on 11/Jul/06
Well, "half baked" is like most of my cooking, but Tim surely looks at least 6'4.5". Can't say I've ever seen him standing by Vince Vaughn... would be interesting.
Alex said on 10/Jul/06
He looks 6'5. I think him and Vince Vaughn would be the same height.

Rob - INTERESTING!!! Good experiment. In photographs where our footwear is similar (as it usually is) that's the difference between my wife & me. When we were married., she wore 3" heels, but doesn't like them. So, you have a graduated series of these (known as a linear progression)? Neat! :-)
Editor Rob
yeah, a half-baked linear progression, I'd meant to put the person taking photos slightly higher, althought it doesn't really make that much difference
Larry said on 9/Jul/06
OK, Glenn is 5'8". My wife of 33 years is 5'8". I'm 6'5" & the difference between Glenn & Tim in the photo above is the same as that between my wife & myself in photgraphs. I'd say Tim has a solid 8.5 inches on Glenn, maybe 9". Thus, Tim is probably his stated height of 6'4.5" (might even be 6'5").
Editor Rob
hard to say if glenn is a little closer or not.
just as an aside and for curiosity's sake, I'll post one pic from a series I have. I done some pics a while ago as a test, to simulate various heights to see how a typical male head (i.e. mine, which is not below an average size) might look against a fixed height.
In pic below, both have measured heights just before we done the series, and measured wooden blocks were used to 'add' height to myself.
Anyway, here is just one pic:
5ft 8 girl and '6ft 4.83' Rob. Key though is that both our postures are similar, we're similarish distance, and I'm looking fairly straight ahead, not down at camera though.

k77: so 5 inches is 20 cm....YEAH. Sorry but did you went to school at all?? or were bad at math in school or what?? 5 inches is 12, 7 cm and 20 cm are 7.8 inches so almost 8 inches!!!!!! FOOL. I don't want to be rude but idiotic claims like these are just proof ignorance and lack of education. Thats a fact and quite sad.
k77 said on 8/Jul/06
e posture glenn stand next to tim..makes tim looks to be just 20cm(5inches) taller than glenn.. anyone agree?? that makes tim looks more like 6"3.5(1.92m)..
Colt said on 24/Jun/06
No I do not think Tim is over 6'5". Maybe 6'5" 1/4 but I do agree, I seriously doubt he is under 6'5" maybe 6'5 1/4 or 1/2 but I wouldn't go beyond that.

I jsut watched "The Shawshank Redemption" for the first time today, and now I'm starting to think he may be 6'6 on the nose. In the movie, he looks 3 - 4 inches taller than Freeman, even when he's hunching. Either Freeman is only about 6'1 rather than 6'2.5 or Tim's 6'6. And considering that in "Batman Begins" Freeman had a good 2 inches on 6' Christian Bale, I'd say that Robbins being bigger than 6'5 is a disticnt possibility.
Viper652 said on 23/May/06
I would love to see Robbins and Vince Vaughn together in a picture. I bet Tim would be an inch taller.
Viper652 said on 22/May/06
Gonzalo, I dont think he could be under 6-5. I find it hard to beleive he is his stated 6-4.5.
Gonzalo said on 22/May/06
To say Tim Robbins is 6`3 is ludicrous. Check the movies, the pics. Compare him to his co-stars. He can`t be under 6`4
J-Dog said on 22/May/06
I think some of you guys can't understand how someone would round down instead of rounding up, but if you were truly that tall, you would not feel the burning desire to be "huge", in fact in Hollywood being that big would probably be a pain in the butt for yourself, so I can definitely see him rounding down. Just look at the height difference with Morgan Freeman, it looks nearly the same as you see with Morgan Freeman and James Cromwell,

I was on set with Tim Robbins and stood next to him. He is a solid 6'3", but with a pair of boots on he would be 6'5". In the picture of Glenn and Tim, it appears that Tim is indeed 6'5" IN SHOES. The camera makes skinny people seem taller.

Tim Robbins is 5'10" and borrows Arnold's lifts in order to look 6'5".

In Zathura, he is almost to the top of the door frame (the scene at the beginning where he walks into his daughter's room), and I think standard door frames are 6'8". So yeah, 6'5" or even more.
Mikex said on 21/Apr/06
This guy is not under 6'5''. He made a film with the English comic actor Stephen Fry who is a very big man at over 6'4'' himself. Robbins I seem to remember appeared a little taller.

JackByrd said on 18/Apr/06
I just went thru about 60 Tim Robbins photos and folks, I'm gonna say that he is averaging down his height. He is a solid 6-6 IMHO. In many photographs, he was not just slouching, he was literally bending into the picture frame. You dont see that with slightly above average individuals, this is reserved for people in the 6-6 range. I also noticed the difference in height between him and his wife Susan Sarandon who is above average height for a female. With heels on she would more than likely be approximately 5-10+. She is barely above shoulder level. If he were only 6-4.5 as many here suggest there would not be such a disparity. I truly believe Robbins has had to round down his height as it is near impossible to cast actors 6-5 and above with a few notable exceptions. Vince Vaughn is one of them.
Gonzalo said on 11/Apr/06
He looks 6`5, that`s for sure. He towers over everybody. However, I expected him to be taller next to Glenn. I have cousins who are 1`92-94 cm and I feel like dwarf next to them. Glenn doesn´t look that short next to Robbins. Glenn, he was 6`5, wasn`t he?

"Tim's six foot five" - Susan Sarandon

he is defanitly around 6'5 he jus slouches a bit, but i dont know why'd he lie because 196 cm isn't too tall, a couple more inches probly would be though.
Jake said on 8/Feb/06
Remember, a legit 6'4.5" may look taller in certain movies/shows as a lot of movie people tend to exagerate there height.
MHouillon said on 8/Feb/06
He stated his height a little smaller, because Hollywood stars shouldn't be too tall (read, what problems James "200cm" Cromwell had). Tim Robbins was a solid 197cm in his heydays, now he is a very certain 196cm.
Jake said on 29/Jan/06
6'4.5" - no more, no less. He said an accurate height.
Anonymous said on 22/Jan/06
He is very tall without a doubt. I think this is one star who doesn't exaggerate his height. He looked at least 2/3 inches taller than 6'3'' or 4'' Clancy Brown in Shawshank.

I agree he really did not look 4 inches taller then costner.
http://lancemannion.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/bull_durham.jpg
though we cant see there feet there only looks like a 2 inch difference. Though I agree with everybody else that robbins has always looked a solid 6'5" especially in Shawshank.
J. said on 17/Dec/05
Great actor. Yeah, I say that 6'5" is reasonable. He's gangly; in Robert Altman's Short Cuts, opposite supposedly 6 feet Huey Lewis, on a flat surface (during one of the film's last scenes), he had a good 4-5 inches. So, 6'4.5" at the lowest, 6'5" at the highest. Question for anyone: I'm currently reading Dennis Lehane's Mystic River. In the film adaptation (which I've yet to see), how is the dramatic height difference between him Kevin Bacon and especially Sean Penn handled?
Codex said on 13/Dec/05
I think to say Tim Robbins is 6'6+ is overdoing it a bit, He does look a fair bit taller than Morgan Freeman in Shawshank redemption, but how do we know the camra angles wern't setup to make Robbins appear taller. The other issue is Morgan Freeman, i question wether he is the 6'2.5 he is listed at.
The third point to bear in mind is that people are taller in the morning than in the afternoon, obviously due to lying down asleep, it could be that Tim Robbins is 6'5 in the morning, and 6'4 1/2 in the afternoon,(or somthing like that).
xiever said on 13/Dec/05
saw him on conan, and he was taller than conan (listed as 6.4 here)
don't know for sure either heights, but going by conan's height on this site, 6.5 is reasonable.
Zach said on 11/Dec/05
True, Robbins had a fair few inches on Freeman, I wouldnt even be surprised if he was 6'6 as he also had a tendency to slouch in Shawshank.
Brett said on 10/Dec/05
I watched ShawShank the other night, and Robbins really does a fair wack taller then Morgan Freeman, who then was probably 6'2.5" or so, so I really dont think 6'5" is unfair at all. He has to bend to fit inside the prison doors too, so I think 6'5" is reasonable.

i ran into tim robbins in a jewelry store awhile back and he appeared to be exactly the same height as me, 6'4" or 6'4.5". definitely not more than that.

The exact line from Costner is "I know women like you. You're a regular patron saint. Stray cats, lost causes. Or six foot, three inch homeless studs".
Also editor Rob-- go here: http://www.greatbooksandfilm.com/bull%20durham.htm
They are both standing straight and if anything Robbins might be looking down an inch, since he only looks 1.5" taller than him here.

Tim Robbins vs. Craig Kilborn, taking into account Ryan Stiles.
Looking at different posts, I notice there seems to be the following consensus:
(1) Craig Kilborn is taller than Tim Robbins by half of an inch.
(2) Craig Kilbron is shorter than Ryan Stiles by at least 2 inches, probably 3.
(3) Ryan Stiles is 6'6". (On the Magic Johnson Talk Show, he stood with Magic (who is 6'7") and was just shorter (an inch).
So based on this:
1.) Ryan Stiles is 6'6".
2.) Craig Kilborn is 6'3 1/2" (He was a basketball player listed at 6'5", and many colleges and universities and high schools, do the player's height in shoes, especially if the player looks like they could pass for it. 1.5" shoes + 6'3 1/2" = 6'5".
3.) Tim Robbins is 6'3". (Which I find hard to beleive but could in fact be true, also maybe he was 6'4 1/2" in shoes). (I am 191.5 and most swear I am 6'5" or 6'6" without shoes and that I must be wrong).
Xhavier said on 19/Nov/05
I agree that Mr. Robbins looks 6'5". What I do recall is a line by Kevin Costner in Bull Durham, describing Tim Robbins character, as " a Six-foot Three- inch ...blah blah blah".
Also in that movie Robbins did not look that much taller than Costner.
What do you make of that?
Anonymous said on 11/Oct/05
Look at some of the pics from "Jungle Fever", a movie he has a background role in. Next to Wesley Snipes and petite Annabelle Scoirra, he really does look the height he stated. Close to 6'5" but not the full thing. In Hollywood, tho, 6'4.5" is the equivilant of 7'4.5".
Mario Nariano said on 23/Aug/05
He is only two inches taller than Benicio Del Toro who is around the 6 ft 2 mark. The 6 ft 4.5 sound believable.
mcfan said on 22/Aug/05
Tim Robbins is at least 6'5. He's 2-2.5 inches taller than Will Ferrell. He's like 3 inches taller than Morgan Freeman. He looks 3-3.5 inches taller than Clint Eastwood. It would not surprise me if he was 6'5.5, but maybe he's only 6'5. He's no way 6'4.
talker said on 22/Aug/05
He looks like 6'7" to me.I think Robbins would have been much more comfortable 4 inches shorter. He is the only actor, even among tall ones, that you get the impression he is too tall.
EJ said on 26/Jun/05
While most people do want to be tall, there probably is such a thing as "too tall" when people begin rounding down their heights instead of up...in my opinion that threshold is 6-foot-4. Anything over that is often regarded as "freakishly tall", so I'm saying maybe Tim Robbins doesn't want to reveal a height over that, and said 6-foot-4 "and a half", intentionally stressing a height just under the threshold. I once saw this really tall basketball player at my school who must have been close to 7 feet and when someone asked him how tall he was, he answered "6 foot 4".
Mr. X said on 26/Jun/05
I understand what you're talking about EJ. I have the Shawshank Redemption at home and Robbins looks a bit taller than usual in that movie. The movie was made by the same director who made 6 ft 5 Michael Clarke Duncan look like a 7 ft + in Green Mile, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility.
EJ said on 10/May/05
Does anyone know if he was wearing elevator shoes in the Shawshank Redemption? He really does look strangely tall in that movie, but I don't know why he would need them. In fact, they would probably try to minimize the height difference between co-stars, not maximize it. Just wondering, if anyone knows.

He was in Australia recently with his wife Susan Sarandon while she was shooting a movie and he was standing next to Eddie McGuire (a AFL club president), who is about 5'11" - 6'0" and Tim Robbins towered over him, Tim's son wasn't too far behind either. So there is every chance he could be 6'6"
Mr. X said on 31/Mar/05
6 ft 4.5 in seems about right. He made many appearances on the Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, and seems about half an inch shorter than 6 ft 5 in Kilborn.
EJ said on 31/Mar/05
I think he might be taller. I was watching the Shawshank Redemption today and he looks (for some reason) A LOT taller than Morgan Freeman (6'2.5"), definitely more than two inches. I think Robbins might be downplaying his height, he really could be 6'6".
