I have only just found out that Windsor died a week ago, on the 17th. Not only was he noted for 'It Ain't Half Hot 'Mum', he appeared in 'Terrahawks' and certain Carry On capers, 'Carry On Behind' to name but one. 5ft9.

Here's an average-height fellow who was made to look quite a giant next to the tiny, 4ft10 Don Estelle as they sang 'Whispering Grass' together back in 1975, if I remember rightly! Didn't fool me though as the beautifully-voiced Don Estelle looked every inch the shortie that he was, bless him!

Wow! I always imagined Windor Davies and Brian Blessed to be taller! I guess it was their presence and booming voices that made them seem larger than life! :-D

I can't see him being anything over 5'9''. Just because it was mentioned at one point in one episode of It Ain't Half Hot Mum that he's 5'10'' it doesn't neccessarily mean he is. It was also said in one episode of that series that one of the other actors (Christopher Mitchell) was 6'1'' but he seems much taller than that. I'd say Davies was 5'9'' and Mitchell was 6'4'' at the time.

I think he was 5'10" when he did "Never The Twain" as he usually looked just a pair of inches shorter than 6' Donald Sinden

UPDATE... Windsor Davies is actually 5'10". This comes from an official DVD of It Ain't Half Hot Mum.

We always thought he was over 6'. His posture must be amazing! And he could be Motorhead's Lemmy's dad! : )
