Scottish actor best remembered for roles in films such as Whisky Galore!, Father Came Two, Doctor in the House, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Guns of Navarone, Scott of the Antarctic, Storm Over the Nile, The Iron Petticoat and The Story of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men. In a 1951 newspaper he was described as "six-foot-two".

Possibly another for the 6ft2 and change club, Rob?
So that's Justice, Connery, Nigel Green, Nicol Williamson and Michael Gothard who've all appeared to edge out Michael Caine....
Potentially could add Stewart Granger to that list as well

He could give a solid 6ft 2 impression, more than a weak one.

Taller than a young Michael Caine here

Strengthens the argument for Caine being just under 6ft2 while this guy arguably could've been a fraction over?
Editor Rob
Yeah he looks like he'd be 6ft 2.5 there.

I thought he was at least six foot four. My memory is that he was an inch taller than Gregory Peck in Captain Horatio Hornblower. He played Little John in Disney's version of Robin Hood (with Richard Todd), and he
looked plenty big in that.
Editor Rob
you could argue he edged out Michael Caine, he may well have been a more solid 6ft 2 than a guy like Caine.

I thought Justice looked more 6'0.5-6'1 range beside Dirk!
Arch Stanton said on 16/Dec/16
@Rob, watched Doctor in Distress and Dirk pulls off looking MUCH taller than 5'8.5 beside him. In many scenes Justice looked 4 inches taller tops. Dirk had to have worn lifts a lot, the tallest 5'8.5 I've ever seen, usually looked closer to 5 ft 10.
Editor Rob
Dirk could pull off looking above 5ft 8.5 at times.

He was an all-round big man...tall and burly. Reminded me of Brendan Gleeson in some movies. Similar height, build and facial resemblance

Rob can you add John Vernon? In Topaz he could look a strong 6'2" actually, I think about the height as Justice. 6'1.5-6'2" is arguable as it is for Marvin.

Yeah, I think I've requested John Vernon in the past...the guy would have been in the 6'1.5"-6'2" range, cool character actor w/ a great voice. Similar height to Lee Marvin in Point Blank.

You might remember the scene in Dirty Harry when Eastwood says something like "if you saw a man chasing a woman through a dark alley with a hard on and a butcher knife you'd shoot the bas***d too and Vernon says something like "I think he has a point"!

Rob can you add John Vernon? I thought you had a page. Off the top of my head Dirty Harry, Hitchcock's Topaz and Brannigan spring to mind.

Quite easy to confuse him with John Vernon, very similar features.

Rob can you squeeze in Storm Over the Nile and The Iron Petticoat? I was going to request him a while back, I think I last saw him with John Mills in Above Us The Wave. He was great character actor. Whiskey Galore! is one of my favourite British films.
