According to his Wiki page, his parents were both short (apparently both 5'5.5), but a great-grandfather was apparently huge, having gigantism. So perhaps that explains why he's so tall.

His huge stature and physical presence makes him seem taller than he is. Next to Haye who I think is 6 ft 2 or maybe a slight bit less, he seems 7 or 8 inches bigger than him maximum based off where Haye reaches on his head, taking into account Valuev’s massive head. It is a typical boxing move to add 2 or 3 inches to your height.
6 ft 10 is my guess. Probably 6 ft 10.5 peak.

There is a picture Of Nicolai with legit as legit can be 6,7 (probably 6,7 and change) Vitali In St. Petersberg which illustrates a nice 4 inch difference. He also has a huge head. Legit 6,11 maybe taller to be honest as he is always slouching. I think 6,11.5 is more fair, Rob?

The barefoot picture with the curtain behind it looks like my living room and imagining the height of the door and the kitchen door at the side and him standing in it. I believe the patio doors beyond the curtain is about 6'10" to the top of the frame. If you hide his wife though he looks like your typical 6'3"-6'4" rugby player thug type! Build has a lot to do with him looking shorter.

Click Here I saw Holyfield up close in 1997 just before his rematch with Tyson. He looked a solid 6'1". Valuev has at least an 11 inch head, if not more, meaning that he'd probably need at least a head size, or close to it, on Holyfield to get to 7'0". There's probably a 1-2 degree camera tilt in that pic in favor of Holyfield, but it's still nowhere near enough when corrected to get this guy close to 7 feet.

Several Russian/ex-USSR boxers are badly overlisted, like Chagaev and Ibragimov. Valuev somehow looked only 6'7" or 6'8" with Holyfield (although maybe when they're in the ring it will be different), so maybe he's more 6'10"ish? Also, if he was 7 foot I can't see how he would be less than 380-400lbs but he doesn't weigh anywhere near that much?

Billed heights are accurate in boxing, in most cases. The only discrepancy that you'll find is height barefoot, or in shoes. A giant like Valuev may be overbilled slightly because part of his promotional appeal is saying that he is 7'0", which sounds more impressive than 6'10", or 6'11". UFC, and WWE, of course, overbil their fighters. Take Tim Sylvia, for example, billed at 6'8" while in reality is 6'6". If you think Wladimir Klitschko is only 6'4.5", and Lewis is around 6'3" then you'd be very wrong, as their billed heights are accurate which is the standard for all professional boxers.

A good rule of thumb for finding a boxer's true height is to subtract two inches from their billed height. So yes, that would make Valuev roughly between 6'10" and 6'11". I only know such things because I'm an amateur myself, and they billed me as 6'0" when I'm really only 5'9.75, 5'10.5 in the morning.

Valeuv's height isn't too hard to determine, just because he is a HW and so will be matched up with other big men. From photo's with him against 6'5" Bergeron, 6'6" McCline (may be shorter in reality though), and a ton of other 6'3" range boxers, I would put him at 6'11". His head is enormous... he may be an acromegalic giant, i'm not sure. He had about 6" on Bergeron and McCline as well. I would love to see how Vitali Klitschko matches up with Valuev. I believe Valuev would have 3" on him, maybe 2.5", and Vitali wouldn't dwarf an opponent for once.

Nikolai Valuev was meassured as 211 CM by german TV in the evening! The difference between morning and evening and evening is about 2 CM. So Valuev is 211-213 CM , so you can say his height is 212 CM! He never looked 217 CM to me.

I would say 6'11" is about right for Valuev. In the press conference pictures between him and Jameel McCline, who is a legit 6'6", he seemed about 5 inches taller. McCline came up to about Valuev's eye level, or maybe slightly lower. used to think his height was exaggerated a lot, and I thought he was about 6'9", but with shoes on Valuev must be just around that 7ft mark. Oh well when Klitschko fights him it won't really matter anymore, heheh.

He was billed at 7'4" and I belived he was until I saw last christmas a match against Paolo Vidoz who is italian like me and at the beginning of the match on the screen appeared the comparative profile of both the boxers and I remember Vidoz was billed at 191 cm (6'3") while Nicolai at 211 cm (6'11").
