Rob, can Finney get 5’10”?
If you revisit him in his 60s films, he really could pull off near 5’11” at times, like Alan Arkin.
Editor Rob
Not looked at him for a while.

Rob, could Finney please join the Bond Actors tag as Kincade?

R.I.P Albert Finney. At least he lived a long time.
I cannot go any lower than 5’10” for Finney in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, Annie and Tom Jones, in fact he can look 5’11” in these films. I suspect 5’11” was a footwear measurement and that Finney was 5’10” barefoot. In my opinion, the only early film of Finney’s where he looked more 5’9” was Murder On the Orient Express where he was stooping to correctly fit Poirot’s character.

Albert Finney was born 84 years ago today. He started his acting career in 1956, contributing to the movie world especially, but he also accepted TV roles.
5ft9.5 peak height.

Think how much better Lawrence of Arabia would have been if Finney had agreed to play Lawrence, rather than the hammy Peter O'Toole. Also, Finney looked a lot more like Lawrence, who was short and thick-set.

I have only just found out that Albert Finney died this year on the 7th February. He would have turned 83 today. 😿
RIP Albert xxx

He was bang on the same height as Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich, but she was likely wearing heels.
another evidence roberts isn't 5'8.

I saw Finney on stage in London in 1979. He seemed an average-sized man, so this listing seems accurate. Just out of interest, Rob, have there been any cases where you have had to revise an estimate by more than an inch? If so, how were you fooled?
Editor Rob
there could be a bunch like that, maybe added at around what they claim, then having more time to look they can generally appear smaller, sometimes even a bit taller!

I've seen Saturday Night and Sunday Morning...for some reason it don't get to me emotionally, wasn't a big fan. I don't know if I'm too detached from that period. I had the same feeling when I saw Look Back in Anger...For some reason, I've never dug young Finney and Richard Burton as much as, say, Peter O'Toole or Michael Caine. Finney, IMO, was more interesting in middle age on, in the little-known Under the Volcano he was pretty awesome.

Rossington looks dead short here. Finney definitely had 5-6 inches on him.

Rob have you seen Saturday Night and Sunday Morning? It's a great film about the working class and was voted 14th best British film of all time. It's worth mentioning here too I reckon, it's one of his most recognizable roles. Finney looks really tall in comparison to Norman Rossington in it. On the base Rossington's listed at 5'7.5"! Not a chance!!! Finney looks half a head taller, surely he was nothing over 5 ft 5?
Editor Rob
never seen the movie

He does look 5'10 in Saturday Night and Sunday morning. Reminds me so much of Ewan Mcgregor as a young man and they look a similar height and build too!
James said on 11/Dec/13
Finney was listed as 5'11" but that might be an exaggeration.
Arch Stanton said on 15/Sep/13
Rob can you add Tom Jones to the films here, it won the Academy Award. Spitting image when young of Ewan Mcgregor and they look the exact same height on screen too. I'd guess 177.

5'10" is right.
Here he's about an inch shorter than 5'11" George Innes:

He always looked much taller than ex-wife Anouk Aimée, who gets listed at 5'8.5, but never looked it :

I had my photo taken with him when he was filming in NJ for "Annie", he was such a gentleman, he was wonderful. I'm 5'8" and had a small wedge sandal on and he was a bit taller (he has very long legs). I would say he's 5'11".

i keep missing finney when he is in town.he looks 5-9 in photos.im a fan.

His ex-wife, Anouk Aimee, was 5' 8" 1/2 in the seventies when they were married. He appears 2 inches taller in most pictures of them together. He was almost certainly 5' ll" in his prime. Now, who knows. He does appears to have lost an inch or two in height.

A biography says Albert Finney was 5'11 when he made "Murder on the Orient Express" in 1974. He may be 5'9 now that he's nearly seventy, but I'm sure he was 5'11 when he was younger.
