Letterman was seemingly shorter than an aging Richard Harris and over an inch under an aging Sean Connery. So how could Letterman have peaked at 6’1” or above? I would have thought 6’0.5” range peak.

I may be one of the few that actually believe his 6´2 claim. He always seemed to edge out jum carrey, arnold and bill murray. There is 0 chanse that he was under 6´1 1/2 peak. I think 6´2 peak lets say 2 mm under.

Dave was a FULL 6'2"-6'2.5" at his peak. Even Robert Plant who was 6'1" in 1993 stood next to Dave and Robert was in high heels and was still shorter than Dave: Click Here

No way he's 6'1.5. I remember his episode with 6'1.5 Ivan Lendl back in '86-'87 and Lendl looked a solid inch taller than him. My guess is 6'.75, maybe 6'1.25 at peak height.

6’1.5 is reasonable for his prime. He looked a bit under 6’2 next to some like Rampage said. Wish I could find the pic of him that I saw with Brett Favre. Favre was legit 6’2” In his prime and still looks around it now

@Vincent: I remember he told Ryan Reynolds that he looked taller than he Claimed. Likely he lost height and wasn’t aware. But 6’1.5 is the highest I could see. I could see 6’1 for Arnold in his prime

Your link was to a Megadeth appearance on Letterman. I guess you meant Dave Mustaine who's listed 6' generally but 5'11" on this site. Dave looks tallest when closest to camera. Standing close to Mustaine but always on the move, I don't know if I would give Letterman more than 2.5" advantage.

I think 6'1.5" is good for Letterman, no lower, perhaps a touch higher. In a 1987 interview with Trump about 6'2" himself at that time, Dave appeared very close in height, dropping no more than .5" IMO. Letterman also appeared to be dropping about 2" in 1990 to 40/41 yo Foreman who I have at 6'3.5" peak.

David Letterman looked almost a full 6'2" in his peak in the 80's and early 90's on his show, so.I think he could've been like 6'1.75" possibly. He looked like a tall man back in those days and lost a good inch since then. He is barely over 6 foot today, next to Obama. He is like 6'0" today probably.

When Huey Lewis made an appearance with David Letterman on his show Letterman looked at least 2'' taller than 6'Huey Lewis. I would say that Letterman is at least 6'2''tall. 6'0 3/4 is a very inaccurate depiction of his height.

I always thought it was funny on "late show" that when an actor of the taller variety..IE a Kevin Costner, Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, etc...would come out on stage, Dave would wait comfortably behind his desk for them to come over and he'd shake their hands from there. BUT when an actor of the shorter variety would approach the stage...IE a tom cruise, mel Gibson, sly Stallone, etc.., Dave would rush out and meet them half way and shake hands, actually pausing for what appeared to be a photo shoot..lol as for his prime height, ill go with 6'1.5"..6'2.5" in shoes, which he actually claimed on an episode a supermodel was guest and shared her height...elle McPherson I think it was?

There is no way Letterman is over 6 feet tall. Letterman is no more than 5'9 today. In the Documentary years of Living Dangerously he is in India filming about the dangers of Coal and the lack of electricity. In one part of the segment he is talking to a tailor who had his custom fitted for India Attire. The tailor stood a good 3 inches taller than Letterman and the tailor looked about 5'10. Letterman has a waste size of 37' and a chest size of 41'. There is no way he is 6 feet tall. There was a scene in the documentary where he and the tailor are on a roof talking about India's use of Diesel Generators due to the power outages. For an American man letterman is really not that tall and not that big. He looks extremely skinny next to the Indian Tailor and shorter. For Lettermen to be 6 feet tall his waste size

In the 80s he was talking to a guest on his show and he mentioned that he was 6'2 and a half. Looks like he probably lost some of that hight now at almost 70.
In the 80s he was talking to a guest on his show and he mentioned that he was 6'2 and a half. Looks like he probably lost some of that hight now at almost 70.

Joaquin Phoenix was on the show recently and they were both standing next to each other at some point during the interview and there was certainly not 5.5 inches difference in height between them. I think either Joaquin needs an upgrade or Letterman needs a downgrade.

I saw Huey Lewis as a guest on David Letterman. Huey Lewis is a legitimate 6'tall. When Letterman was standing next to Lewis he looked about 2'' tall than he is. So I would suffice to say that Dave is approximately 6'2''tall.

@Danimal: I looked at two videos of Letterman in '95 when Montana appear on his show. If Montana is/was 6'2" then Letterman did look the same height as Montana. It's strange because in the above photo, he doesn't look like a 6'2" man at all.

That's not true. Letterman claims to be 6'2.5, not 6'2. He's said it numerous times. I think the 6'1.5 claim is right and I kind of always thought he was about 6'2...probably a hair under even back then.

I would peg Dave at 6'1.5 with the shoes he wears on the Late show never looked 6'2 when I seen him in person a couple of times , he is a fairly tall guy though most people can see that, but at times when he is dressed in street clothes he seems shorter than when he has the suit on , but 6'1.5 seems right on for him.

Just saw him on tv a minute ago and he was towering over Vince Neil and Mick Mars and he was as tall as Nikki Sixx if not a hair taller. So definitely every bit og 6 ft 2 in

I have seen David after the show in the mid 90s , once he came out to sign autographs and do a skit in Ruperts. He had on his collage type jacket and converse sneakers and he was no 6'2 ,I was 5'10.5 back then and truthfully he did not seem too much taller than my self back then, he does indeed seem taller on the show and in his suit, on the street he does look much shorter , he was slouching a bit to sign the autos but even when he straightened up he was not as tall as I expected. He seemed not even 6'1. but he was wearing flat converse sneakers ,mabey if he leans back and straightens up he can be 6'1 6'2 with small lifts. 6'.5 with converse shoes ,and 6' bare foot

Having seen Letterman last week with Eli Manning, I'd say these days Dave is a solid 6'. Eli, who is around 6'5" or so, towered over Letterman by a good 5-6", and Dave looks to be about 2" taller than Colin Farell (5'10") was on Friday's show.

i watch letterman alot , i saw whn Bill Clinton was a guest and he seemed a bit taller than him and look 2 inches taller than 50cent , and trust me letterman doesnt wear lifts , he took his shoes off in one episode , and they were normal

Dave has always claimed to be 6"2". Most people get shorter with age. I guess you can thank "Good O' Gravity" for that. Jim Carey has alway claimed to be 6"2" aswell. I would say they are 6"1" to 6"1" 1/2 NOT 6"2"

My mother went from 5'2 3/4" to 5'1" by 50? My step father went from 6'1 3/4" to 6'0" by 50 as well. To say that a 60 year old man does not lose any height is just plain ignorant. Do some research and realize that we ALL lose height. It's usually about .5" every decade after 40. Some say as early as 30. Women lose more height than men due to osteoperosis.
