I can’t see him as tall as Martin Kemp’s Steve Owen yet. Joe was definitely a late developer.

5ft11.75.

It’s THAT episode on Classic EastEnders today, the one in which Matthew Rose terrorises Steve, hitting him over the head with a bottle and tying him up, demanding money - some £10K.

Yes, I’m sure it was this bit of acting that alerted the film makers into offering him his future menacing parts.

Joe's Matthew starts out in EastEnders as quite an innocent young lad, but changes into someone definitely NOT to be messed with.

Ooh! That means Martin Kemp will fairly soon be making his debut, but first we will 'meet' Tamzin Outhwaite, who has a relationship with Ian first.

I look forward to Martin starting in Enders, and to the drama he adds to their already hectic lifestyles.

Joe gets 5ft11.5. No way was he fully grown at the start of his career as Matthew Rose.

Joe has recently joined the cast of the classic version of 'EastEnders', as the character Matthew Rose, and he doesn't half look young! No way will he have been fully grown at the time considering he ends up little short of 6ft.

5ft11.75.

Yesterday afternoon I saw Joe in an episode of 'Touching Evil', playing an unsavoury character yet again! He predictably played younger as he didn't look fully grown. The show was from around 1998 and his role was as an easily-influenced schoolboy whose 'friends' gave him acid and encouraged him to do unspeakable acts while under the influence.

I couldn't believe that it was only '12' rated, but maybe it's a good thing to warn youngsters away from cultism, because that was what it amounted to. The subject was definitely not glamorised.

Last night I saw Joe in an episode of 'Silent Witness' dating way back to 1997 when he was almost definitely 18, his birthday being on the 16th December, hence very late in the year, and easy for me to remember as it's my elder brother's birthday as well!

Joe played a social misfit, but one with a conscience, unlike his friend. They kill an old woman, taking a so-called prank too far. Joe sheds tears when confessing to Sam, played by the 5ft4 Amanda Burton, whereas the other boy mockingly re-enacts the event and is spotted by Sam, who gets into trouble for jumping to conclusions.

I actually think, in fact I'm over 90% sure, that Joe had more growing to do at that age. He could pass for 16 and I feel sure that's the age he played. Although considerably taller than Amanda Burton, there's no way he looked little short of 6ft. I saw him in 'I Spit On Your Grave 2' and remember thinking that he'd really grown tall since his 'EastEnders' days.

So I am judging his height on his later film work and shall go for a quarter-inch below 6ft. I thought it interesting to see him playing that part in 'Silent Witness', and well worth mentioning that this is one guy who grew after he was 18... I believe!

He's very close to 6ft. I was thinking the same thing as well while watching Doc Martin.

@ Yes Rob! He was growing in his late teens, to be sure!
The difference between his 'EastEnders' height and the size of him in the second Spit on Grave movie was drastic and noticeable. OK, I was marvelling at how much he'd grown up anyway, but his height was perhaps more stark staring obvious than the average amount grown by a boy during that amount of time!

at least now there is a more reasonable height, I think if anybody looked at Doc Martin and seen Ian McNeice listed higher than joe absolom they'd be scratching their heads through to their brains!

Joe started life as quite an innocent young dude on EastEnders, but then he turned, got his own back on Martin Kemp's character and was so good at it that the film makers took note and gave him parts in horror films, one of which was 'I Spit on your Grave II', in which he was truly detestable!
He was also in a 90's teen Ouija board film, and I'm sure there have been others!
It was when I saw the 2nd 'I Spit...' movie that I decided that yes, Joe is positively tall, so just under 6ft comes as no surprise whatsoever to me!
He can have 5ft11.75!

Joe did grow about age 17-19 range, he can look about 5 inches taller than Ian McNiece on Doc Martin I thought.
