Wow Gravis. Most people shrink when they get older but your mom has grown two inches. That has to be a first Gravis.

Andre was at least 7'0", he wasn't that much shorter than Wilt in both of their primes. He was either 7'0" or slightly under 7'1" at his peak. Not 6'10"-6'11" or 7'4"-7'5" like some people say.
Gretz said on 5/Dec/18
Gravis I have no doubt that you are 6'7"(maybe Rob should set up a page for you!)and your mother is a beautiful woman.I.M.O mike Graham is closer to 5'6.5" it`s hard to tell with shorter guys but Andre could easily have 18 inches on him he may even be bent slightly to avoid the pipe at his head level. He is never going to be taller than he is there got to be circa 1976-78,in fact on the W.W.E channel graham claims Andre drank 156 16oz. cans in one sitting! And on a personal note in 1985 when I was in 12th grade i Was measured in gym class in socks at 5'11.5" and at the docs office under one of those machines.Fast forward to 2001 I injure my back dead lifting and measure 5'10" so these wrestlers taking bumps night after night really do lose height. So don`t get injured lifting Gravis you might drop to a mere 6'5.5"!

@Gretz For what it's worth, I measured my parents again earlier today and told them to stand as straight as humanly possible, to really go for it... My mom measured in at 5'6" and my dad at 5'9.5". Granted, they weren't walking around all day at a shopping mall, so that helps w/ avoiding height loss. Also, I'm pretty sure my mom had on a 1.5" heel in that pic I posted.

So, in shoes, I'm at least 6'8", and my mom was maybe 5'7.5" in shoes, whereas Andre and Graham are in wrestling boots w/ maybe a 0.25" sole.

Here's 5'3" Debbie Harry (5'6" in heels) next to Andre for comparison:

And of course, Big Show w/ 5'4.5" Kelly Kelly (around 5'8.5" in HUGE heels):

Gravis my huge friend,i think I wrote my intentions wrong.I don`t think you ever photo shopped a pic of Andre,I was talking about JT and I apologize to you I had no right to say that(we have been posting here over 12 years, and while we have our differences I don`t think you cheat). In fact betwixt the 3 of us we are usually within an inch or so no matter who we our talking about,so i respect both of you guys opinion.but I still think Andre peaked 6'11.5"-7'0.75 so there LOL,Gravis keep those interesting pics of Andre coming great work!

@Gretz I give you my word, I would never Photoshop a pic of Andre or myself. Now, I'm only around 6'7" in the afternoon ... here I am (fairly recent pic, 275 lbs) w/ my mom (around 5'5.5", w/ footwear advantage, 200 lbs)... Click Here

Now, compare that w/ Andre (closer to camera) and a guy who's around 5'6" (JT says maybe 5'5"), Mike Graham: Click Here

Now, how tall do you think I look... and how tall do you think Andre looks...?

Andre The Giant's Height At Age 30: 7ft 1.25 barefoot, morning time.

Andre The Giant's Height At Age 45 (One Year Before His Death): 6ft 10.25 barefoot, morning time.

Andre's back surgery & growing age made him shorter, Andre was a lot taller in his prime.

It`s no secret for the past 12 or so years Andre is always 6'10" or 7'0" that is the main argument. As everyone knows I think he peaked at 7'0.5".but I am curious to the people who vwhatever think he didn`t fall in that range, what made you think he was knowing he was the billed 7'4" or I have heard as low as 6'6"(ridiculas in both instances)you do know this skews everone`s height to levels not possible.Hogan at 6'10"-6'1",or a 6 footer at 6'5+ or 5'8".the funny thing is to 90% of the wrestling public will say he is 7'4" or 7'5" just because they where told that. But anyone that posts a 7'2" or 6'9",i will just have to laugh at and say they know nothing about heights.Rob your site seems to be the only truth about actual heights, say they say Sly 6'0"(now with his elevator shoes he may be close to that) but at the pool he seems more like5'7.5 paticularly at his age early 70`s.

@JT I used to think that Mean Gene might be 5'9", but am now convinced that his peak was around 5'8".

Here's a recent height-loss pic of Gene (75 years old) w/ 69-year-old Jim Brunzell (billed as 5'10"):

The reason I think Mike Graham is around 5'6" is b/c he looks around the same height as 5'3" (5'6" in heels) Debbie Harry. If he was really only 5'5", that means other wrestlers like Bruno Sammartino are even shorter than I thought.

Regarding the Andre and Wilt pic, I think this is the best one. Both are standing straight. I think someone from this site posted the photoshop to give us an idea of Wilt's head: Click Here

Here's another good one with some photoshopped sizes of Wilt's Head (please zoom in):

IMO, they are NEARLY the same height in their respective footwear in this photo. Maybe Wilt has 1/4" on Andre tops, hard to tell. Andre's eyes, shoulders, etc are lower than Wilt's but Andre's head is absolutely enormous. The lower features gives the allusion Andre's much shorter when in reality he's not because his head is so large.

Now barefoot, that's another story. It really depends on how much height each guys shoes are giving them, and that's still debatable.

Now here's my guess, but again, it's very debatable.

First, here's something that may not be debatable. According to this site, Wilt was measure at 7'1.06" barefoot Click Here

I'm assuming the shoes he's wearing in the picture don't give him much height. This is the best pic I could find: Click Here my guess is .5" tops.

So let's say, Wilt 7'1.56" in his shoes in the photo and Andre at 7'1.25" in his shoes in the photo.

Now it depends on how much height Andre's shoes give him. If it's 3", he was 6'10.25" at the time of the photo. If 2.5", then 6'10.75". If 2", then 6'11.25", etc.

André looks closer to the camera to me from the feet. From looking at the arch, there is a slight tilt to the perspective as well.

The floor is level here unlike the altered tilted pic that Boss keeps posting. Click Here The feet look in similar positions although Andre could be leaning in a bit towards the camera and/or Wilt leaning away from the camera. Despite the probable 2 inch footwear advantage, Andre’s eyes are lower than Wilt’s and Andre’s forehead from the eyes up was probably not any longer than Wilt’s Andre is looking up to Wilt here too Click Here

Sotiris, Kobe’s height is not “100%” confirmed 6’4.75” but he is around that height. 6’4.75” was the height his wife reportedly measured him at but what if she measured him at night? And how exactly did she measure him?

Barkley is a sloucher and is taller than Kobe as well as Michael Jordan. Click Here You can’t have Mean Gene at 5’9” and Barkley at 6’4.75” unless you think Barkley has a 7.75” long head. Click Here Gene was around 5’8” and Barkley, who has a good size noggin, has an easy full head size on him. ~ 6’5” Hulk Hogan needed cowboy boots to have a full head size on Gene.

It was Jim Breaks who looked 5’3” with Dynamite Kid, not Mick McMichael.

Mike Graham was probably around 5’5”. Dan Spivey said he was 5’2” but he wasn’t that short. There used to a match on YouTube of ~ 5’10” Greg Valentine wrestling Graham and it looked like Valentine was wrestling a child.
Canson said on 27/Nov/18
@Boss: so I guess the 6’4 5/8 at the olympics was somehow “altered”? Dan Majerle says here the guy was “maybe 6’5” probably 6’4. Not a flat 6’4 but 6’4 range is what he meant. But Majerle has played with him as have Danny Ainge or Joe Klein etc. who’ve also said that about him. And Rob has said repeatedly that Mugshots add if the person is looking down at the camera. You shouldn’t accuse JT of something like that really because your statement about him downplaying his height or about others who perceive his height as 6’4.75 is equally as questionable

Boss said on 26/Nov/18
JT is a BigShow mark and thinks Paul was 2 or more inches taller than Andre which has been proven wrong here. Andre with a 1" footwear matches up to Wilt better than a peak Shaq who also has a footwear advantage on Wilt. Andre matches up with Arnold better than Shaq too.
Boss said on 26/Nov/18
Anyone on here who uses comparison photos by JT must not realize JT alters all his photos to fit his own arguments which has been proven here many times.

@JT I have to admit, I remember seeing that for the first time before you posted it here, and I was surprised at how tall Barkley looked. That said, Barkley was closer to the camera. I'd be willing to give Barkley 6'4.75", nothing more. Ppl don't always look as tall as they normally do. Bosh could have been on his feet all day and lost some height...

I remember you saying that Mick McMichael was 5'3" (5 inches shorter than The Dynamite Kid).

@Danimal
Piper suffered a bike accident on early 1991 . He did it hurt his legs , I don't know if he lost height by that occasion ,probably not . His hips surgery was in late 96 before his match against Hogan on Starrcade . In early 2000 he also had other surgery ( one was from biceps ) . He definetely looked shorter when he met Vince Russo on TNA in 2002 . Russo was like 6'2 and had Piper by a few inches . When Piper returned in 2003 to WWE , he looked like 4 cms shorter than McMahon . 7 years earlier Piper was as tall ( there is a chance that Mcmahon started to use lifts troughout Attitude Era with his character because he looked at times 6'2 being in his mid 50's ). In 2005 he looked shorter than a 40 yro Shawn Michaels. In 2006 he had the remotion of the tumor if I'm not wrong . In 2009 for example , he looked shorter than Ricky Steamboat ( in early 80's Piper had him by 3 inches ) . In his later years he looked 4''+ shorter than Dean Ambrose and only a good inch taller than Daniel Bryan . I believe he went from a legit 6'1 ( until 1996) to an almost 5'9 guy in by the time of his death .

184guy2,
I stand corrected...
After watching Piper’s debut in WCW @ Halloween Havoc in October 1996...Piper did still look a solid 6’0” there with Hogan & Paul Wight. However, I stand by that he only looked 5’10”-ish in the very esrly 2000’s! Say, like around 2001-2002....he simply only looks 5’10” to me in the things I pulled up & watched from 2000-2002.
2000 @ 5’10-1/2”
2002 @ 5’10”
2005: 5’9.5”
As Danimal pointed out, his spinal cancer tumor removal surgery cost him a lot of height in that time range. I think he even had some of his large intestines removed, if I’m not mistaken?
My final opinion on Piper:
Peak: 6’0.75”
1990: 6’0.5”
1995: 6’0”
2000: 5’10.5”
2005: 5’9.5”
RP said on 21/Nov/18
Sotiris, yeah... I have him in the 6’0-3/4” to 6’0-1//2” range at his peak... right @ 6’2” in his wrestling boots. His height loss was frightening !!!!
Pdoggy said on 21/Nov/18
Some people actually lose height for various reasons some through surgery some through age.
When did Shane Battier lose 2 inches in height?? 6'8 is his height not 6'6.

Does everyone's height have to be downgraded by 2 inches, just on the off chance there may be a picture trail back to Andre that actually proves to the downgraders that he was just over 7'.

Some do exaggerate height but not everyone. Truly large people do have custom shoes made or wear cushioned insoles because of the pounding there joints take.

Yes Andre's boots gave him a boost in height, not debating that point.

When you spend your life being 7' tall and weighing over 350+ pounds like Shaq or Andre you need support. Their feet take a beating.

Sotiris, what do you have a peak (1978-1990) Roddy Pipper at?
I have him @ 6’0-3/4”...by 1995 he looked a weak 5’11”....2000 he looked 5’10”-ish....

And when he died he was down to around 5'8" at best. He has huge amounts of his spine removed due to a cancerous tumor. His first height loss was in the WCW when he had a double hip replacement. He went from being at least 6'1" (he had 2-3" on Bruno Sammartino and Paul Orndorff in the mid-80's and was around the same height as Vince McMahon (pre Vince's height loss) until the early 1990's). He had his hip replacement in the mid 1990's and instantly looked shorter, but it wasn't drastic, still looking close to 6'0, but it wasn't until the early 2000's (after the WCW was bought over) that he had part of his spine removed, where you could literally see his stomach protruding under his shirt (as though he had a beer belly), because his upper torso was inches shorter than it had previously been, due to several discs in his spine being removed, where the tumor was. At that time, he claimed that he used to stand 6'1.5" (billed 6'2") and was down to 5'9". He progressively lost even more height throughout the last years of his life, standing around the same height as Mean Gene at the end, a man he used to DWARF in the WWF and even in the WCW. I can provide pics if you don't believe me.
Gretz said on 18/Nov/18
RP i am going to say I agree even before I read it from you that Piper was 6'0.75" at his peak.Even Keith David is listed as 6'1" they co-star in a movie called they live that came out in 1988 so that would be his peak height and they are just about the same height(i don`t see why they would exaggerate an actors height and i`m sure they where measured by a tailor). And the in ring pic with Andre and Piper he`s got piper by 12 inches easy this pic seems to me circa 1978,and I am not trying to say Andre is 7'1" here but man he looks very tall here so 7'0.25" is not out of the question. That`s why i`m trying to say you can`t just use 1 pic there are two many variables.
the two pics with Piper and Hogan,he looks 4 inches in one and 5 inches in the other taller than Piper. And as I said before I think Andre was a 7 footer from around 1969 to 1978,1978 being the last known pic with Backlund close to a cinder block wall they both seem to be their true heights 6'1" and 7'0" respectively. The funny thing is I used to work at a high rise in center city Philadelphia and worked in building maintenance for 14 years, and I measured many cinder block walls in the fire towers and none of them came up to the same height as I thought they would. However in this case it seems to ring true all i can say is by 1990-91 the pic with Bam bam he seems to be about 6'9.5" his body had deteriorated significantly by this point although he was 555lbs. by the time of his death,he must have been in agony for a long time and the alcohol numbed it to some degree.

Gravis you certainly didn`t have to remind me that Al was certainly barefoot in that pic with Andre(no way he dwarfs a 6'0" man by that much, and thanks for all the pics with the old bruins a dynasty in their own right)if not for the Habs they would have 4 cups instead of two.And in 1973-74 when my flyers beat the bruins for the cup(thanks mostly to Parent)Sims had an incredible +63 at the age of 20 mostly because he was often paired with the best d-man of all time Bobby Orr,when Orr was paired with Dallas Smith Orr was a +124 a record yet to be beat Smith riding on his coat tails was +94.the pics with the Bruins are all great, but I hesitate to put an accurate height on Andre in them lets just say I.M.O he could well be 7 foot there.Add them with the cake pics from around that time and I would say Andre at his peak was 6'11.5-7'0.5"It`s a shame we can`t see Andre`s foot ware in the pic with Sims as it looks to be about 11:20 a.m so he was probably near the tallest he would get throughout the day.

In the 12-13 years i have been posting here(Rob what was Andre`s top listing when you first started this page?I recall the first time visiting he was way up at 7'1.5",then got short as 6'11".Then it was 6'11.5" maybe back in 2008 we had a vote to add an extra half inch to make him 7'0" the overwhelming consensus is that Andre was 7'0" at his peak.
Now i would like to talk about their first meeting in Hamburg Pa.,(even though they wrestled in the south back in 1978 when Hogan was known as Sterling Golden and they arm wrestled to set up a feud)Back then and in 1980 andre looked a good 6 inches taller than hogan.Even back stage after hogan won the belt Andre is pouring champagne on his head and with the level camera angle Andre still looks 6 inches taller than Hogan.Andre also had that small foot ware advantage although by 1984 i think Andre was no taller than 6'11.5".Even by ww3 these college students made a post that by using pixles they estimated andre to be 5 inches at least taller than Hogan, and by then i think andre was 6'10.75" even back stage someone came up with that measurment but don`t know how he did it.

@RP Yeah, I liked seeing DiBiase there; pretty cool pic that JT tracked down. DiBiase could easily pass for 6'2.5" (but I've always seen him as 6'2", given that he was billed as 6'3"). Also, we don't know what footwear Studd had on... but he does look more 6'6" in that pic.

We've all seen the pic of Studd w/ Rick Barry (listed 6'7", but that was a shoe measurement, or rounded up)... Click Here

Now, compare that w/ these nice JT pics of Barry w/ 6'4" DDP... Click Here ,

I now see that height-loss Rick Barry is now around 6'4" next to 6'4.5" Charles Barkley (2015):

I can't buy a full 7 feet peak myself. Not barefoot at least. The full photos JT posted of Andre with Arnold and Piper where footwear is seen are surprising. The scale seems to show Arnold between the 6'2" and 6'3" marks in shoes with Andre "only" 6'10", which doesn't seem off in that pic since Arnold reaches Andre's nose or a little higher. Similarly, Piper looks 9" shorter at the absolute most and really a bit over 8" since he's clearly above Andre's mouth and a bit below his nose. I buy the 6'1" and 6'1.5" peak listings for Piper and Arnold, respectively. Some of the height difference is valid, but I think you can still get an idea of what a 7 footer looks like. Look at the photo JT posted of presumably 6'2" Brock Lesnar with cowboy boots and a big hat with the very top of his hat struggling to reach Shaq's mouth! And Hulk Hogan wasn't so far we couldn't compare and Andre was what? Maybe 5" taller? Same thing with 6'5" Chuck Wepner a decade earlier. 6'11"-6'11.5" range peak wouldn't be that surprising, but can anyone tell me if there's definitive evidence he lost a noticeable amount of height by the mid to late 80's?

A couple of things about the original pics of Wilt Arnold and Andre is that Andre actually looks the same height if not a little bit taller and the camera is closer to Wilt you can tell by where they're looking Andres kind of looking across on an angle and Wilt is looking straight across so the camera angle favors Wilt.

The 7ft 1 (and a bit) measurement is certainly an interesting tidbit, because why would this be made up or a lie...it seems to fit in with a rough 'in shoe' measurement.
-------------------

Editor Rob, why is the 7ft1 (and a bit) measurement more interesting than the 6’9 ¾” measurement claimed by Meltzer?

Neither measurement is backed up by the slightest bit of proof. Boss can keep claiming it’s the most detailed account of a measurement, but the fact is that Jody Hamilton hardly gave any details.

He basically just said that Andre was measured by some guy at a tv-show and he was measured over 7ft1. Oh and the guy gave a favourable review in the newspaper the next day.

Wow some details there! He doesn’t give the name of the tv-host, the name of the tv-show that Andre was supposedly measured at and also doesn’t mention the name of the newspaper the review was posted in. Every info one needs to track down proof of that measurement has been (purposely?) left out by Jody Hamilton. And I’ve tried to find some supporting evidence to Hamilton’s claim. But the more evidence you find, the more unlikely his story sounds.

When exactly did the measurement took place? On Kayfabememories he claimed the measurement took place in 1968, but in his book he mentioned that Rod Fenton send Andre on a publicity tour. Fenton sold NWA All-Star Wrestling in late 1967 and wasn’t an active promoter anymore in Vancouver from 1968 onwards. The active promotes in 1968 were Sander Kovac & Gene Kiniski.

He also claimed their tv-show was aired all over Canada, but again that didn’t happen until Fenton left. TV-syndication for NWA All-Star Wrestling happened somewhere in 1968.

Here’s were Jody Hamilton’s claim doesn’t fit: are we supposed to believe that Andre was measured at 7’1+, yet was still being billed below 7ft until he went to Japan in 1970. Sorry but the idea of a 7ft1 giant being listed inches below his actual height is kinda hard to swallow.

We have a video of Andre in 1968 (the same year Andre was supposedly measured) where they claimed he was 2m11 (6’11”). That’s 2 inches less than what he was supposedly measured at. Even in shoes he wouldn’t have measured 7’1” if he was only 6’11” at the time. And that measurement wasn't a morning measurement as it took place prior to a tv-taping of their wrestling show.

Secondly there’s absolutely zero proof that Andre appeared in Canada in the 60’s. If Hamilton’s claim is true than the biography’s on Andre need to be rewritten as every biography claims his first appearance in Canada was in 1971. And it was in the Montreal territory, not the Vancouver territory. As far as I know, no one besides Jody Hamilton ever claimed Andre appeared in Canada prior to 1971. A bit odd that such an important piece of wrestling history (Andre appearing in North America for the first time) seems to have been completely forgotten by anyone except Jody Hamilton. Even more odd is that Frank Valois & Edouard Carpentier are being credited with bringing Andre over to North America, when according to Jody Hamilton he already appeared in the territory three years prior to that.

Say what you want about Meltzer’s claim, at least his claim matches up with Andre’s career timeline (even though some here have claimed it doesn't), as Andre was wrestling in France when he was 24 years old. Plus a 6ft10 wrestler being billed at 7ft+ is much more believable in the world of pro-wrestling than a 7ft1 wrestler being billed at 6ft10.

JT I thought Terri Todd was around 6'2". That's not exactly short. Also Todd has been up close to a whole lot of tall athletes including Paul Wight and Wilt. Why would he not be a decent judge of Andres height? I would think he would be at least as good as Chet Coppock.
Pdoggy said on 2/Nov/18
@JT Thanks... but:

Editor Rob help me out.

@JT What is it going to take for you to realize that Andre's peak height was just over 7'. Terry Todd was no slouch and around people of size all the time. He is most certainly qualified to gauge height. So many examples of Andre pictured with people in the 6'10 range and he has them all beat. Doorway pics. Not to mention the "ORIGINAL WILT PICS" that have not been tilted. Under 7' is simply impossible. Lastly Andre was measured on Canadian TV which has also probably been squashed by Vince also because he was only 7'1. I agree he was embellished by boots and Afro but that was for 7'4" and up Kayfabe.

Like everyone you are most certainly entitled to your opinion. But something seems to sway you away from the truth with Andre. Not sure what it is.

At 1:31 the interviewer asks him how tall Andre was and Todd's response was 'right at 7ft'.

I highly doubt Terry Todd knew Andre's legit height. He probably just guessed his height as almost everybody did.
Andre's legit height is wrestling's best kept secret and probably a secret that we'll never find a real answer to. Even today wrestler's will not break kayfabe and tell reporters how tall Andre legitimately was. Probably because the majority of wrestlers don't know Andre's legit height either.

Andre 6'9" peak height. His boots and afro added a few more inches. It was his sheer mass and bulk which made him standout. Back in the 60s and 70s there weren't many huge guys in wrestling. Guys 6'4" and over were few and far between so Andre was truly one of a kind in that era. In today's era with guys like Big Show, Kane, Khali, Strowman, etc he would just be another big guy.

Andre was and always will be The Giant. His massive overall size and features would always make him stand out no matter who he was next to or what era he was in. Wilt Chamberlin who is a giant in his own right looks like a toothpick beside Andre. His head was one of the largest heads in human history. Cassidy was listed as 6’9” in college but looked 6’7”ish in Beverly Hillbillies and I Dream of Jeanie.

YouTube had a recent interview with Terry Todd that’s since been pulled where Todd said Andre was 7 feet. Andre’s at least 7-8 inches taller than Todd though. With that large a height gap, Todd’s estimate is basically reduced to a guess unless he’s got photos standing side by side with Andre and Andre’s not in cowboy boots. Chet Coppock and Chuck Wepner are 3-4 inches taller than Todd and would be in a better position to estimate Andre’s height than Todd, although there would still be some speculation on their part too.

Just too many pics where Andre is standing in front of a doorway in a doorway that is definitely a traditional doorway and Andres head the top of Andres head is above the 2 in trim that is around the six-foot-nine doorway.
Again normal doors in the U.S. are 80 to 81 inches. The doorway must be taller to accommodate the door. Andre's head is above the trim. So there goes any chance of a peak Andre under 7'.

The pic from Andre's house in France was certainly not a traditional doorway however so many others were.
62B said on 25/Oct/18
@ Sotiris. The Andre by the door pictures are interesting. Not optimal because Andre isn't standing with the best posture or square with the door in any of the pictures. That being said, the last picture it looks like Andre could be 7'1" in his boots and to me is the best of the three. The first picture looks to have the most severe angle and the second picture Andre is dropping his shoulder a pretty good amount. 7'1" in boots probably means a little under 7' barefoot. Again its a picture with lots of variables that would have to be taken into consideration. Just look at the locker room pictures JT posted a few days ago. They are a pretty good example of how a few inches and different angles can add or subtract a few inches.

terry todd, July 12, 2010:

JT,

I just became aware of your post and thought I’d respond. I agree that the Big Show of ten years ago would be very close to Mark in shoulder breadth. I saw him many times during that period and he was truly broad–and also very strong in his shoulders even though he didn’t push it in the gym even then. Regarding his hand size relative to Andre’s, having been around both quite often I have to disagree as I believe Andre’s hands were significantly wider than Big Show’s–just as
Andre’s feet were much larger in both length and width than Show’s.

I agree with your general points about Howard, although he’s so much wider than almost all of the other NBA big men that his measurement would be interesting to see–although not up in the Henry, Williams, and Show category. As for Andre’s height, he was a good 7′ early in his career, and maybe a bit more, but age, a terrible back, and gravity brought him “down” a peg or two. I saw him on several occasions when he weighed over 500 pounds, but I also saw him in Georgia shortly after he cam down from Canada and I suspect he was within 15 pounds of 400, one way or the other. This was about 40 years ago; I went backstage to meet him, interview him, and take a few photos with him. I still recall how “inhuman” he looked and how amazingly agile he was. For example, at one point in the match he ran across the ring, jumped over the top rope, caught the top rope in one hand for contril as he went over, and landed on the floor just outside the ring.

JT, May 29, 2010:

Dr. Todd,

If you have the opportunity, your getting some shoulder, wrist and hand measurements of Paul Wight (wrestler Big Show) could be revealing. He’s probably close to Mark Henry’s width.
Wight back in 1999-2000 was arguably wider than he is now. His hands are also about as wide as Andre the Giant’s were but not as long. Like Wight and Andre, Dalip Singh (wrestler Great Khali) has a huge frame and hands as well due to acromegaly/gigantism and is the tallest of the three.

A shoulder measurement of Dwight Howard sounds interesting but would probably be disappointing. With television screens now in the 16:9 format, everyone looks wider than they really are. If you switch the screen to the old 4:3 format, Howard still looks wide but not quite as impressive. His square (rather than sloped) shoulders and narrow waist also add to the illusion of width. At a legit 6’10”, he’s still a remarkable athlete.

I really enjoyed your SI article about Andre the Giant. As Andre has since passed away, can you share some insight on his real height and overall size? After factoring in the afro and cowboy boots that he almost always wore outside the ring, my best guess is that he was actually closer to 6’10” and probably around 425-450 lbs. when you interviewed him. Wight is roughly 7’0” (he was listed as 7’1” as a center for Wichita State) and generally looks at least 2 inches taller when standing next to the same people that Andre did (or when standing next to persons of the same height that Andre did). Thanks!

…Any chance you can post your Q@A with Terry Todd?

I emailed him from an old work account I don’t have access to any more and can’t screen cap. I posted his comments on this site. I can't recall if he estimated Andre’s actual height but did believe Andre’s hands were larger than Big Shows. Someone posted a link here years ago where Todd admitted that Andre was actually under 7’0” even though he stuck with 7'4" for the Sports Illustrated article.

Andre tried the big boots when he was young Click Here Even back in the early 1970s, he started looking pretty uncoordinated and cumbersome in the ring so that may be why he stopped using them. As Roel’s comarison photo shows, he probably gained around an inch with modest tip toes (e.g., in the pics with Fuller, Keirn, Rick Martel, David Von Erich...) and over two inches in full tip toe mode with the two promoters, Missing Link (Dewey Robertson).....

Coppock estimated Andre about 3inches taller than himself.

Again, I've seen several height estimations for Andre by a wide range of people (wrestlers not included). Seeing as there are so many different estimations, I personally don't hold much value for a personal estimation.

The lowest height estimation I've seen for Andre was 6'8". A sports photographer estimated him at that height when he was in the Boston Bruins locker room back in 1974.

Andre's brothers both independently said Andre was 2m18. That's apparently also the height that was listed on Andre's passport.

JT. Regardless of the height difference, you know that even if Andre's cowboy boot heels are a little bigger, the toe is normal where this Igor's shoes are about the same from heel to toe giving him a more overall height boost. 62B,if you think Andre was 6'11"-7'0" at peak then we are very close here.In fact I might have to revise his estimate, and ironically it is because of Dave Meltzer?Because he just estimated in an article I read that he thought Ernie Ladd was 6'9.5".If it is correct I can only say hogan was 6'6"+ and you can add a half inch to anyone who is 6'8" or more. And put Andre at 7'0.5" even in 1975.it`s hard in there matches to get a good comparison but there is no way Andre does not have 3 inches on Ladd.I don`t have time now but i will get into this later,i had even stated in the last pics of Ladd that he looked a little taller than 6'9 to me.so maybe there is something to it thought I still don`t trust Meltzer.

So let me get this straight we will accept and use pictures where the camera angle is so blatantly off but we will not use pictures where the camera angle is at a perfect distance setup in the middle both people are standing straight are within a few inches of each other those pics need to be thrown out and we need to use the pictures that are posted probably manipulated with people who are a foot and a half shorter I'm just not getting it.

Why post pics that have people not standing straight camera angle is from the floor I just don't understand what is gained by posting pictures of people slouching leaning way closer to the camera I don't understand what is gained by that.

We accept Chet Coppock's word but not Terry Todd?? Coppock was exactly the same height as Hogan. Anyone care to downgrade Dick Graham?? He is standing over 6'5 with Andre and he is in the middle of Andre's nose. The security guard is at Andre's eyebrow with a slight foot ware advantage putting him closer to 6'9. So how is the security guard 6'5??

WHEN ANDRE IS PICTURED WITH PEOPLE 6'8 TO 6'10 HE ALWAYS HAS INCHES ON THEM.

People need to realize Big Show was shorter than Andre. From Paul's own mouth he claims Andre was taller. Because this is what all the downgrading is about making sure that people believe that Andre was shorter than Big Show .Andre's page is the most commented and he passed away 25 years ago. People can't get enough Andre. He was beloved revered respected he was the man. Pretty nice find with those pictures JT. Really shows what camera angles and distances can do. With what is known of Andre's personality he probably did the raising of his foot as a joke with shorter people. Otherwise he did not need to do it to gain height. It would make more sense to do it with Fuller, Elmer, Baba, the 6'8" officer etc.....he didn't explain that. The point of the raised foot was that he did it to save face with Fulller. He didn't. 62B,i have seen every pic where Andre is supposed to be tip towing, shadow and foot position seem to make it look that way in some .In one his foot is against the cinder block wall and his heel looks a little higher because of it,but i don`t think it changes his height as the another foot is solidly on the ground.i have an idea let`s have JT enhance the pic to prove andre is tip toing .25 inches, there is no space between his heel and the floor And these guys are what 5'10" to 6'0".you don`t do this with guys that are a foot shorter than you(would you tip toe to gain height against your 10 year old nephew?)he certainly isn`t doing it in the wilt pics,if at any time I would think it would be there.and try to tip toe a .25 of an inch it`s hard for me to maintain that posture for more than a 1/4 second.Imagine 500 lbs. Andre trying to do it he would stumble to the floor. Now maybe he could maintain that if he tip towed 2.5 3 inches, fora short time before he stumbled.and check the pic with Andre and Wahoo(a controversial poster named Jason, probably the most infamous poster ever swore Andre was tip toeing because he looked every bit of 7'0" in this pic.Check it i posted it 10 years ago he is doing nothing of the sort again ask Danimal we talked about this subject 10 years ago.Take your desperate out of date argument and go home.

In the pic with Ron Fuller its less obvious if he's slightly lifting his heels. But I have to agree with JT that there's something fishy with that pic. Ron Fuller's head is simply too small.

Quite RoelC, there's the WM2 ring announcer (Chuck) who estimated André at 6'9 since they were so close in height, and in the same ring.

@ RoelC. The biggest problem I have with a peak Andre being 6'10" to 6'10.5" is that he was at least that tall when I saw him in 1988. I know time of day and the fact that he was most likely in his orthopedic shoes factor in when I saw him, but I initially thought he was 7' when he stood straight up. If he truly peaked at 6'10" or so then he couldn't have lost any height by 1988. JT, I have to agree with Pdoggy about the tip toe thing. I think maybe you are being fooled by shadows in that picture. Andre doesn't appear to be intentionally trying to make himself appear taller, his toes aren't bent at all and he is leaning down a little resting his arm on Keirns shoulder.
---------------------
No offense 62B, but I don't think a personal encounter with Andre is any solid evidence of his height.
Especially considering the heights that are given for Andre from various people outside the world of pro-wrestling range from 6'8" to well over 7ft tall. It goes to show you how tough it was to accurately estimate Andre's height.

Your encounter with Andre happened 30 years ago. Back then it wasn't as well known that Andre wasn't 7'4" as it is today. Were you really that height conscious back then as you are today? I know I'm not. Through this site I learned a great deal about how to estimate people's heights. Before that, I never really paid attention to postures, footwear, camera angles, etc.

Also you're much shorter than Andre, so I'd be surprised if you could accurately estimate Andre's height in person down to an inch.

If this mattress is 75 inches long... how tall is Andre on this bed? Click Here
________________________________________________________________________________--

A lot of variables. One Andres appears to have his arms against the wall propping up his head a little so his head could really be past the top of the mattress a little. Two, how far off the edge of the bed are his feet hanging? I did a search for wrestling boot height and found a company advertising their boot as 16" tall, so I think Andre's feet could be hanging over by 10".Three is that a true 75" twin mattress? Or is it a twin XL that would be 80". It looks like it would be the 75" from the picture, but maybe Andre is just making it look small. Personally if its a 75" mattress 7' looks possible for Andre.
Pdoggy said on 14/Oct/18
Yes Gravas in that pic you just posted on 1o/13 his right foot is off the ground. That looks nothing like the other pics that were noted. You can see his boot is higher. I don't know what is gained by it, but I do see it in that pic. However not in the Fuller pic.

Again Andre pictured with a relaxed posture someone who is 6 foot 8 to 6 foot 9 in Footwear comes out right around his eyebrows proves once again Andre is at least 7 ft or more.

Thankfully it's not a picture with him with somebody who is 5 foot 6 or 5 foot 7 he's much closer in height to Andre. Much easier to gauge a few inches rather a foot and a half.

Andre is not tip toeing in any of these pics,i can see no space between his heel and the floor.the levels that people go to shrink him is remarkable. In the pic with martel and his partner his heel is mearly closer to the wall.Give me a break he can tiptoe what a 1/4 of an inch you can either tiptoe like 2+ inches or you can`t,and this is with short people why i would think if he would try this it would be in the wilt pics.So get a life guys it`s just not true.the consensus is he was 7'0'Rob has him listed at the 7 foot mark.I remember JaSON years ago said Andre looked 7'0" next to Wahoo Mcdaniel but said he was tip toeing, they both had cowboy boots on and if you check the pic he`s not.Can you really do a 1/4 inch tip at 475+ I think not,but you guys that think Andre was 6'10" peak have been losing for a long time so anything you come up with is a desperate thing.

In February 1966 footage Andre claims 2 meters 10 which basically is 6ft 10.66 inches it is definitely possible that he grew a couple more inches after that because he had just turned 20 very feasible he actually does look smaller there because he's so much younger, thinner and it's obvious he is still timid and shy.

@ RoelC, the Hurricanes had him listed at 6'8" between 1968 and 1970. Just don't know if that is a shoe listing or barefoot. I'm sure he was at least 6'7". In that picture with Andre its hard to tell what footwear advantage he may have, probably a 1/2" or more. I think with that particular picture its hard to put Andre under 6'10.5". If Fuller was 6'8" Then I think Andre would come out to around 6'11.5" possibly even 7'.
----------
Yeah I knew he was listed 6'8" in college basketball. He was in his early 20's back then, so that's about the max height he could've been (as college basketball tends to exaggerate the height of its players more often than not).

Seriously he doesn't look that tall to me. With the camera tilt corrected Fuller comes up to Andre's eyebrows. That would put him in the same height range as Big John Studd. And Studd looked no more than 6'6" based on how he measured up against 6'7" Rick Barry and 6'5" Bill Fralic.

Fuller could be taller if Andre is indeed standing on his tippy toes or if Andre is indeed leaning forward. But that doesn't do anything for Andre's height. People who see a 6'8-6'9" Ron Fuller in that pic are ignoring the pics of Andre next to guys like Hogan, Studd, Wepner, Dick Graham, Don Leo Jonathan, Giant Baba, etc.

Here's Fuller next to ~6'5" David von Erich.

Doesn't seem to be much difference between the two.

Pdoggy said on 9/Oct/18
@Jt

What are you talking about??

There is no bend in his shoe at all. With a size 20+ shoe Andre would be far taller if he was actually up on his toes.

Honestly does it matter that much to you that you will flat out make things up?? I know Vince had him stand on boxes but when we can see everything and you still want to just fabricate a solution to why he is looking over 7'.

What is gained from that?? 7'4" myth debunked long ago but really how many more people over 6'8" does he need to be pictured with to make it stick?? His Legacy is set in stone, nothing will change that.

Camera tilt in favor of Fuller, which I corrected here Click Here Looking at Andre’s right heel, he may be on his tippy toes. Fuller’s head is still too small for them to be standing side by side. Don't look now but here come the downgrades on Ron Fuller again.

The reason I believe Ron Fuller is at 6'9 is how he lines up to Andre compared to how Baba does, uncle elmer does, Tyler Mane does etc.

There are many people who Andre has been pictured with who are all in that 6'8 to 6'10 range. Andre comes out at 7' or better in all of them. The issue with the posters who believe Andre is under 7' is that they still want him to look like a traditional 7 footer does next to a 6' tall person. Who cares what he looks like next to a 6 footer. When we have so many pics with people in that higher range.

The pic with Ron Fuller is more proof of the size of Andre's head. I posted about this weeks back. Their chin level starts at the same spot but the TOP of Andre's head is 4 inches higher than Ron's. Even their shoulder level is similar. Andre's incredible mass made him look bigger but took away from his actual height.

I guarantee that if there was a pic posted of Andre and Too Tall Jones people would start downgrading Jones as well. Because Andre was taller than 6'9 by far. I think I've heard that somewhere....

Gretz. My post had nothing to do with Andre (not even sure why you referenced him). I posted that photo because Sotiris Gravas has continually referenced Shaq as being 6'11 range since he started posting here and last couple of days stated that he thought Zdeno Chara was 6'9...just want to show what a 6'9 and 6'11 person :) looked like standing side by side!

Not sure which Shaq and Wilt photo you refer too. If it's the one I am thinking of then top of Shaqs head is taller, but it's not good for comparison purposes given the position photo was taken from.

Re: slaughter, he was billed 6'3 in WWF in 91.

Re: Windham Jr. He was same height as Dustin Runnels in early 90s in same footwear and runnels was shorter than the Conan o'Brien on his show circa 1995-96 so I doubt he was taller than 6'4 peak. If Windham was 6'5 then Sid Eudy was 6'8 peak or very close to it

Vegas we can`t even see the foot ware they have on in the Shack pic,and yes he does look tall next to Chara there. No one is saying Chara is as tall as Wilt. But if you insert Shack in the pic with Andre and Wilt they are all going to look around the same height,so your attempt to shrink Andre fails again(and yes i know Andre has a foot ware advantage in the wilt pic but wilt has a big wig on too).So you have proved Shack is taller than Chara great work.An old Wilt in dress shoes looks taller than a prime height rookie Shack with thick soul size sneakers on probably 19.So Shack ain`t all of that either.

Gravis,i have always thought windham was a legit 6'5" and his father Mulligan 6'6".And if you think he was 6'11" at his peak we are not far off my friend.I think in the early 70`s out of bed he could be 7'0.50" to 7'0.75".But I only think he was this height for a decade or so(I have watched his career since 1974 when he always wore a brown leather vest to the ring). Now by the time he showed up to actually wrestle i`m pretty sure he was 7'0" even but even in 1976 like when he fought Wepner who was listed from 6'5" to 6'6.5.although I suspect he was at the time 6'5.5" even his manager said he was 6'6" and Andre made him look like a pygmy. This match did not look to be scripted and Andre took a hard shot got mad and simply picked up a 250LB man and threw him over the top rope. The last time i can say I felt Andre was at THE 7'0" MARK was in a pic with bob Backlund in 1978,they were both dead on 7'0" and 6'1" against a cinder block wall and they were almost against it.however as a building maintenance guy i personally measured many cinder block walls in the fire towers, and they always come out at a certain height so take it with a grain of salt.I think he was at one point 7 foot,I posted many years ago the 1969 promo pics he sure looks 7'0" there.Really what I would like to see the report when Andre was arrested in I think iowa i`m sure they must have measured him this was like 1989-90 so im sure was was in the 6'10" range by that point.

Sotiris,
Ron’s true height was said to be 6’7” by people in the know. His 6’8” & 6’9” listings were just random wrestling Billings. And if people close to him say his real height was 6’7” ?? Then, we can’t rule out even 6’6.75” to 6’6.5” as an accurate true barefoot measurement. I’ve heard that Robert was really 6’4”? But, you’re right...he looks more 6’3” & change in those pics. I guess we can’t rule out that at some point in his life he did measure 6’4”? I’ll comptomise & call Him 6’3.5” & Ron 6’7” (max) Ron’s cowboy boots would’ve gave him something like a 0.875” to 1” footwear advantage over Andre’s wrestling boots. So?...I think we can safely say that peak Andre was 4.75” to 5” taller than Ron Fuller.

Man I can`t find who posted the pic earlier who showed Don Leo Johnathan 6'6" inch with 2.5 inch heels on.But it is close to the the pic with Andre and the 6'8" security gaurd,he looks 7'0" in both those pics. And D.L.J may have been a small fraction over this mark.I am not trying to say Andre was over 7'1' by any means just that he was 7'0" and a tad at his peak.

@RP I remember Bruno going off script with Hogan as well back in the late 70's he said exactly that. Leave it to Bruno to keep it real.

Also, the same people who think Andre was 7'4", probably also think that Hogan was at least 6'8" and The Rock at least 6'5".
Gretz said on 29/Sep/18
tree don`t get fooled you are into heights the general population dosen`t know or care about Andres height. They see Hogan billed at 6'8" at WM3.And they see Andre a lot taller not 8 inches taller and they don`t even think about it.Therefore Andre is 7'4" to them,90+% of people are going to think that even 20 years from now!

What's funny about so many posters on this site is that we are to believe what they say about people's height but not what the actual people say about their own height.for example one might say they are 6 foot 5 and we need to believe it but if the celebrity says they're 6 5 and they're a liar. Ernie Ladd doesn't say he is a shade under 6 10 he says 6 9. Furthermore why would the article say a shade under 6 10 why wouldn't they just say 6 10 if they were going to be exaggerating his height anyway.

Sotiris,
Kowalksi,
Was 6’6” in his prime according to an old interview with Bruno Sammartino way back in the mid 1990’s. Bruno was reflecting on the history of wrestling & it’s great champions & it’s giants & big men at that moment of the interview. Bruno was always pretty honest about heights & sizes. In that same interview he referred to himself as a little over 5’10” & any where from 245 to 265 lbs during his prime....he said Hulk Hogan was about 6’6” in ring gear and was once well over 300 lbs with 22” inch arms, but Wayne’s were Bigger and that Hogan was now a lot smaller, like I said this interview was right after a graduated HS (1994-1995) time frame...maybe even 1996? I’m going to research & try & find it later today. Also, in saying Wayne he was referring to Superstar Billy Graham. Bruno also was doing the mic work on Hulk Hogan’s 1st match in the WWF back around 1978 or 1979. And he went off script and said Hogan was 6’5” or 6’6” & I think he said 305 or 310 lbs? When at the time the WWF & Vince SR we’re billing him @ 6’8” & 320-325 lbs. he talked a lot about Andre too. Said he never really knew Andre’s true height because Hs never saw him actually measured...only weighed ...said the heaviest Andre ever was when they would tag team & wrestle was 450-455 lbs...but, Andre would often be as low as 400-420 & was quick as a cat at that weight. He said Andre hit 500 lbs in the early 1980’s. He later mentioned again that Andre was “right at” 7’0” ...but, he never knew exactly how tall he was. He also referred to The Undetaker as a 6 foot 7 & 300 pound man...once again...this was the mid 1990’s. Oh, and on Gorilla Monsoon...Bruno said he was 6’4”...6’5” & 400 lbs.

big Tuzac i always thought was 6'7",the thing is we start talking about so many other peoples height I do it too.I think we sometimes lose sight of the fact we are trying to figure out how tall andre is,and then we get into different years and Andre`s height was variable to me depending on the time or decade whatever getting a true peak height on him is not easy, and that is not even counting the foot ware issue or weather his head is tilted down and the angle of the pics.He towers over a peak hogan in 1984 when he is pouring champagne over his head, and he has his thin souled boots on so give hogan a litle extra boost there.

What kind of hopes this planet has when there are so many sheeps.
tree said on 27/Sep/18
98 precent?I dont think there are so many more and more people know he was far from it.
I can't imagine how dumb u have to be to belave he was 7ft4,and those people after seeing him with Wilt still think he was that, well i can't even find words for them.
Some say he lost height or he did not reach full height bla bla bla then when in the earth he was 7ft4??
Answers:I don't know but he had to be cuz WWF sad so..and he was measured at WM3.
And when u say if he was really 7tf4 they would bill him 7ft7,some still think he was that, this guys need a bullet i dont care.

When he claimed at 24 just over 7ft they still insist like he was growing but he had surgeries and did lost it,like Andre is the incredibly shrinking man but growing in the same time, give me a break..many many very stupid people live on this earth lol.

I have a question why are some posters aloud to post pics that have been altered?? For example recently a poster put a pic on here claiming 6'1" however when they did their line graph measurement they came out to be 6'3" even though they stated 6'1" in their post. Possibly an error or they thought we would only look at the 7' tall person as opposed to the 6'3" wink wink person.

Rob if you don't know maybe others here could chime in.

@62b what do you think??

I think I know the picture you are referring too. I don't think a person could possibly have all the information they need or the technology to correct camera angles and distances so that people in a picture look the exact heights they are. So these altered photos are really no better than the originals in my opinion. A lot of the pictures being shown lately are just plain awful for judging heights.
Pdoggy said on 27/Sep/18
Plenty of Andre/ Wilt photos but we must post pics that aren't slanted one way or the other or Tilted that just does nothing to prove height for anyone. So if that makes you feel better by posting pics that are tilted in your favor go ahead and post it. However no one is fooled by it or shouldn't be on this site.

i have a possible game changer for everyone, consider this.I have been posting here since early 2006.In that period of time I have never seen Andre in a pic with someone taller than him except Wilt, and that only happened because he had a foot ware advantage and thought he could look Wilt in the eye while he was buzzed. He had strict orders from Vince Sr. not to have his pic taken with anyone taller than him,and guys very tall like Ernie Ladd, uncle Elmer,John Studd, tyler Mane,Giant Baba, giant Haystacks, all just off the top of my head.Even Don leo Johnathan billed at 6'9 but probably shorter then you Gravis at 6'6".Even Stan Frazier got a billing of an incredible 7'9" at one point He could not have been taller than 6'9.5" at his peak. But just saying none of these guys where as tall as Andre so thats pretty impressive in fact minute Bol when he played for the sixers wanted to meet him sometime in the early 80`s And Andre would not come out he knew he would have been dwarfed by the 7'6.75" Bol and like i said HE was forbbiden to be seen with someone taller than himself, but you have to be pretty tall for that situation to ever hardly come up.

Gravas I am glad your not going to beat me up(LOL).And it`s funny you say that about hockey.I used to practice every day just street hockey when i was like 4 to 15.And I would always get drafted to be the goalie by the older kids I had all the equipment but the cup yes I can still feel the pain!Anyway thanks for sharing those pics with me!And i still think Andre peaked at 7'0" even if it was only for about a decade. But it just goes to show even though we disagree you seem like a hell of a good guy!
Pdoggy said on 26/Sep/18
Okay people with all we know now Baba, Too Tall Jones, Mane, Ron Fuller,Ernie Ladd, Uncle Elmer all in that 6 8 to 6:10 range and Andre has them all beat by 3 to 5 inches whether he is in his prime or not.

Man I`m sorry JT i actually think you are a very good person, but that photo with Andre next to Shack is quite laughable you have him about 4 inches smaller than Shack. When in 1984 there pics of him as tall as Wilt(yes Andre has a foot ware advantage but Wilt still has that big wig on)I seen a pic of Shack with Wilt in i think his rookie year 1993?And Wilt with dress shoes on edges out Shack in height who has a thick pair of sneakers on so you are telling me if all three where to pose together in the same Foot ware Andre is going to magically be 4 inches shorter I know you will never revise your estimate of Andre being 6'10".But for three years or so you where showing pics of Andre at 6'11".I have been posting here for over 12 ears brother, only you and Danimal have been here longer.Vegas somehow changed your mind, but you are a smart man and I know you can photo shop Andre to what ever height you want.I bet you could bring him 6 inches to Wadlow.Hey if you think Andre was 6'10" thats fine I happen to think he peaked at 7'0",you must be aware that the public at large think he was 7'4".And I bet thats like 98% of the public. That`s why i`m glad Rob has this site easily the most accurate gage of heights on the net and Jt i have enjoyed our debates over the years, that`s what it`s all about. And like i said i like you and it`nothing personal, glad to debate with a knowledgable person like yourself.

I wanted to say Wilt shoes gave only 2cm Click Here Click Here
Arnold shoe also gave around two Click Here

So if Andre had those 6cm boot he looked 6ft11-6ft11.5 there

To be fair Andres boots look to give only 6cm next to the 4cm cuban heeled boots
But in that photo with thin shoes enxt to Arnold,he looks max 6ft11,even if Arnold shoes are a bit thiscker.
And if his boots were 6cm with Wilt whos shoes gve only 4 then Andre could be MAX 6ft11.5,he looked the same height or half inch shorter than Wilt, and had a head on Arnold, also there is a chance Andre is a little bit closer to the cam.
with Muhamad Ali he looked max 6ft10.5 there he was only 31 Click Here

Ring shoes and shoes actually used by Giant Baba. The unit of length is cm.

MY estimates about Baba’s height are about 202 cm in the 1990's.
Because Baba told that his height was 202 cm at that time at the TV show.

I assume that Baba's heyday was 204 - 205 cm.

Dynamite Kid is billed at 5ft8,its wierd if he is really 5ft9

Some of these downgraded heights are idiotic. Bret Hart at 5'10?! lol. For the record, I'm from western Canada and stand 5'10. I stood one on one, talking to Owen Hart one evening for over an hour, and he was clearly a shade taller than me 5'10.5 to 5'11. Bret in turn in clearly a couple of inches over Owen. Note as well that Davey Boy Smith is NOT 5'9! lol. I stood beside him as well - not talking to him, and he was most definitely taller than I am. Dynamite Kid too - while shorter than me, was not much shorter. I'd put him at 5'9. Again, I can promise all of you that Owen Hart was just over 5'10. I'd love to say I was the same height but I wasn't.

Gretz, remember that Andre most likely had around 3 inch heels with Wilt and Arnold. These are his boots from October 1983 Click Here or the same month that the photos with Wilt and Arnold were taken. This is only 2 months later Click Here

There’s no speculation about Andre’s footwear here with Arnold Click Here from that same time period and he’s not looking so tall assuming Arnold is around 6’1”. Click Here Click Here It’s a similar angle to Andre in Piper’s Pit from early 1985 Click Here with Arnold looking roughly Piper’s height, maybe a little taller.

Wilt’s wig looks like it adds significant height but that’s only because it extends so far down his forehead, making his head look smaller than it really is. Click Here

62B, there is no good shot of Studd and Fred Dryer from that Hunter episode where we can gauge who’s taller. BTW Dryer looked shorter than a 6’6” listed guy on the LA Rams (Mike Fanning) and looked no more than 6’5” with John Matuszak. I stood next to Matuszak in a record store in LA back in the mid-1980s and he seemed around 6’7”. Dryer did look more than 6'5" though next to Jesse Ventura from a Hunter episode where Ventura (~6’2”ish) was wearing around 3 inch heels and Dryer dress shoes. Click Here

So, let’s address Baba & the 209cm monument. If it’s a legit 209cm, would mean we can peg Baba’s legit height down to 6’8” barefoot. 209cm = 6’10-1/4” & Baba appears to be 6’9” in shoes assuming the monument is a legit 6’10.25” ?? This would make Baba approximately 6’8” barefoot. Now, knowing that...we can start comparing pics from the past of many wrestlers ...Andre, Hogan, Studd, Mulligan ...etc and pretty much peg their heights. Only thing is, we’ll never know if these men used footwear tricks back in the day? Which many of them have been accused of.

Years of heavy lifting & contact sports have left my old ass with achy joints. So, Cardio gets neglected often, LOL! But...the iron is in my DNA...I’ll be lifting when I stroke out in my golden years for sure. My wife has been on my ass to start running with her again. It’s on the to do list. Stay strong & healthy, Friend!

Rob i have been watching videos of Andre and Arnold and Andre just comes out too tall next to him.I know a friend of his measured him at 6'1.5" back in 1969,this has to be enhanced as Wilt and Andre in the pics where they are the same height(I know Andre has a foot ware advantage)but man they look very tall next to Arnold,Wilt has moccasins on so he gets what a quarter inch but you have to include the wig it may give him close to another inch.I may have to revise my estimate of Andre in 1984 to still being 7'0" unless Arnold only reached 6'0" even, they just totally dwarf him.And as an Olympia winner a scant 4 years ago they dwarf him in mass as well.I would love to here opinions on this.

I don't think he was good friends with the guy who measured him!
