Arnold in an early lineup barefoot with a bunch of other bodybuilders from the golden era. Next to him is 6'0" Dave Draper, in the middle is 6'0" Ric Drasin, and the far side is 6'0" Ken Waller. Just measure from the top of the their heads to the top of the border. Arnold was easily 6'1.5"-6'1.75" at that time of his life. Remember, they are all barefoot.

To be honest I think we've done fairly well on the subject of Arnold overall, on this page. Most of us agree on 6 to 6'1 peak, and around about 5'11 now (either just under or just over). As far as we can be certain, we've pretty much got him pinned down.

From what I remember, Arnold wasn’t happy about the Vince Basille measurement, as he was insistent that he was 6’2. When the measurement came out lower he asked to be measured again, stretched and strained and stood up as straight as possible – and the measurement was exactly the same – 6’1.5. I think if Vince’s stadiometer was incorrect then Arnold would have been more than happy with the result. The fact that he wasn’t, and demanded to be measured again, is worth keeping in mind.

If he WAS an approx 6-2 peak barefoot guy he would of looked 6-3 to 6-4 in the Terminator films wearing biker books which give you a height boost from 1" to 2" inches. {my boots give me well over an inch increase}. So its not rocket science to say he was never ever looking 6-3 6-4" in any films!!!!!!! Ever!!! So the truth is he was 6-0.5" peak and looked {6-2" in boots} in Terminator etc. Sorry fanboys Today looks 5-11" max

I meant elevating heels is easy to hide them when you get measured. If you elevate your heels and stretchig your neck he could add 1 inch to hit 6'1.5 from Vince Basille, but the truth he would measure 6'0.5 on an apprpiate medical height test (184 cm)

Was the guy who measured Arnold lying about it? I don't think he was...but it's not impossible for the stadiometer to have been off slightly. That might support the argument of 6ft 1 max for him.

To be honest I met him briefly and I did not play any attention to his footwear, so I can't say who had the footwear advantage. I can also say that I am about 181.cm in the morning and 179.5cm at night(give or take a few mm) and on the picture he seems to be slightly shorter.
I think that at this point Arnold is 180.5cm in the morning and 178.5 at night. And at his peak he was probably around 184-185cm.
On the other hand, I met some strongmen and I have pictures with some such as Zydrunas and Brian Shaw and they are definitely huge and I would say that they are as tall as they claim to be, or even taller (I thought that Zydrunas was taller than 191cm)

In this photo from 1983 Arnold is holding his citizenship certificate. It is difficult to read but I think the certificate states his height as 6ft2 and his weight as 215 pounds. I guess he did not get measured for his citizenship certificate and they just asked Mr. Schwarzenegger.

Franco Colombu was probably 5'4 peak. So just take a look of all the barefoot photos of Arnold and Franco..
As I see it he is probably more like a 6'1 kind of guy. This explaines more the height loss, losing 4-5 cm is more reasonable then 6 cm.

Not really, shrinking around 2 cm per day is kind of average. Your genetics and your daily activities, things like weightlifting, running, a physical job, etc it will also affect how much you shrink during the day, as far as I know.

How he achieved a 187 cm measurement in 1969 can be explained easily. Human height can flactuate during the day by 1 to 1,5 cm.
Arnie probably hang himself upside down for an hour or two before getting his height measured which would increase his height temporarily plus he probably took a big breath to fill his lungs so he can maximize his height and made sure to gain any extra mm by taking the best posture possible and lifting his heels as much as possible.
Not suprising consider his is obsessed with his height.
He could easily get to 187 from 183,5 doing all that.
Now pretending to be 187 when you are 183,5 cm isnt really hard. Arnie always wore lifts and boots with high-heels so he would tower everyone.
The fact that he was so mascular & massive also added to the illusion of his towering stature.
I wouldnt be suprised if he also wore the thickest socks possible. Those celebrities are obsessed with their image.
Arnie looks to be the same height or sligthly shorter than Jeff Bridges who is 184-185 cm.
You can also find many photos of Arnie standing next to Kristanna Loken who is 180 cm and they appear to be the same height. Loken wears high heels but so does Arnie with his boots. And in some photos Loken looks taller.

I don't how You guys measure yourself. Last time i checked (about 2 monthsago) I was 177,5cm in the morning and 177,3cm twelve hours later. The lowest measure for me was 176,5cm. I don't know how You can shrink over 1 centimeter during the day, it's impossible.

I started taking glucosamine with chondroitin as well. I have noticed that I don’t lose as much height during my days as before and my morning height is also a bit higher.

Saw a picture of Arnie with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar. Thought Arnie looked about four to five inches shorter. Varadkar is 6'3 at most IMO. Searched the internet for any reference to Varadkar's height but could only see a journalist describe him as 6'4...which is mostly likely an overstated guess. A friend of mine was recently in a group photo standing beside Varadkar. Both were standing tall and both were about same height. My friend is a bit shorter than me, probably 190cm. it's possible Arnie is now below 5'11, maybe 5'10.5
Saw a picture of Arnie with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar. Thought Arnie looked about four to five inches shorter. Varadkar is 6'3 at most IMO. Searched the internet for any reference to Varadkar's height but could only see a journalist describe him as 6'4...which is mostly likely an overstated guess. A friend of mine was recently in a group photo standing beside Varadkar. Both were standing tall and both were about same height. My friend is a bit shorter than me, probably 190cm. it's possible Arnie is now below 5'11, maybe 5'10.5

Maybe Smith's list is good, but I'm afraid that he and Carrey may already need a peak height and current height... As for Carrey, I think he could be weak 6'2 "(6'1.75") when he was younger. I'd roughly agree with Sly Gemini below. A peak height of 6ft 1+ is conceivable.
Remember, this guys party piece in the 70s & 80s was bodybuilding. I noticed from personal experience last year that working out & running can temporarily prevent you from being peak height. I'd done strength programmes and running for most of my adult life and and when I infrequently measured myself I was always 1m83-1m84. I'm sure you measuring your height a couple of times was not done out of pure boredom. You wouldn't be on this site if height to you was that casual of a thing.

The point I'm making is that Arnie may have had height measurements that showed his true height, especially when he was younger; but the heavy training may have kept him walking around 2-3cm shorter most of the time.

Full agree. Commando is one of may favorite movies and Arnie looked 5'11.5 range. He was 37 during the movie. I really can't see Arnie being over 6/6ft.25 in his prime. He was a strong 6 footer. With his lifts an hair style looked over 6'1. Today is 5'10.5/75 with his shoes and lifts sometimes can look over 5'11. The shrunk some talking about is exaggerate he lost maybe a full inch or 1'25. bottom line, In my view, as I said many times, the guy was about 186 cm (noon height), which is a very good height for a man. I cannot say for sure, I've never meet the guy, but after all the pics and movies that I've seen I can express this opinion about the guy.
About the measurements of Vince Basille, I haven't been there to see but always a small error can occur or like Rob said, additional to this small human error, maybe Arnold did a burst of gut. Overall, Arnold always has seemed above average guy. Even these days, as he's around 180cm, he's not a short guy.

Yeah I've watched Commando one of my fav movies. Arnie was about 5'11.75 at that time maybe 6' 6'0.25 his prime. slimeball, The words say that you don't lose height until 50-55, not 40-45. Of course unless you suffer injuries and surgeries. Also I think the height loss is overplayed dramatically on this site. I don't think you can really lose any height until 70 if you don't suffer of any bone affection, injuries or surgeries. It has to do with bad posture after 55 if none of those are included.
For example my grandpa is 75 year old and hasn't lost 1 cm in height since he was 20 year old.
my grandma is 81 and she suffers from a bone affection and she lost in only 6 years over 7 cm of height despite measuring 152 cm for his entire adulthood until she was 75.

Besides... this wasn't Arnold's peak. He was 43 back then and he could have already lost some height. The mystical "6'1.5 measurement" was in 1969, 21 years earlier. If Arnold's peak was 6'1, he could went down to 5'11.75 in 21 years. Seems legit to me.

Arnold wears big motorcycle boots (+1.5" according to arnoldheight.com article), specific haircut (another +0.5") and in the most of the scenes he is next to the young Eddie Furlong or Linda Hamilton (both short). In T2 he looks for a strong 6'2 guy (188 cm easily), but barefoot - I can buy that he was actually 182 cm.
Besides... this wasn't Arnold's peak. He was 43 back then and he could have already lost some height. The mystical "6'1.5 measurement" was in 1969, 21 years earlier. If Arnold's peak was 6'1, he could went down to 5'11.75 in 21 years. Seems legit to me.

Don't know where it came from but let's not start accepting it as a fact until we see any evidence to go along with it. If you don't believe me just search his bodybuilding years next to Frank Zane, he looks 2 inches taller 2'5 on him, Lou Ferrigno ( tower Arnold almost 3 inches at least. He was 191 cm in his peak). Legit 6'2 guys towered him. I can't buy more than 6'0.75 in his best day.

If Arnold was 182-182,5 cm in Terminator (5'11.5-.75) how can anyone can believe he was 187 cm? Over 185 cm is so hard to believe. Just listen a lot of testimonies, pics, etc. His current height is perfect but his peak was at least 1,5 shorter, mayority can't even notice 1-2 cm (1 inch) and real heights. You should learn what's a real 187 cm man barefoot.

Yesterday I re-watch "Raw Deal" (1986). In a lot of shots Arnold is standing next to Robert Davi (6'2 or according to Rob 6'1.75) and he is slightly, max. 0.25" shorter than Davi. 6'1 flat peak isn't impossible as he was giving that height at 19. 6'1 peak is possible if his 6'1.5 , 6'1.75 measurements were early/morning or dodgy , even that would make him 6'0.75 - 6'1 at the very minimum and that 6'0.75 might have been a tad too low. So yes 6'0 peak is stupid talk.

I think he is over a flat 5'10". Probably 5'10.25"-5'10.5" range today.

Yeah he gave his height as 1,85m in germany when he started. 6´1" would be a fair listing as I think he would dip below like 2-3/8 peak evening.
Today he looks less than 5´11", I wouldn´t go higher than 5´10.75" eveningheight.

just saw stay hungry again and i am really sure that arnold wasnt 187cm peak, he could be 186 though but atleast 185cm if bridges was 187cm. even considering shoes im sure bridges would edge out peak arnie

Absolutely agree he was pushing 6' I don't see never more than 183 cm in his peak and seen thousands of photos and compare him with legut 6'2 guys. 6'1 is more than 185'4 cm. He was not even 184 cm, maybe at morning. Arnold was the best example of a 6 footer strong 6 footer if you want
