I ran into him by chance in Edinburgh near the castle about 10 years ago. I'm 5'10-11ish and when I ealked by he had about an inch on me so could believe at that time almost 6ft.

I believe he openly wore lifts to give him a bigger appearance in Of Mice and Men. Sinise also used camera tricks as well. He did a good job but hasn’t directed other features to my knowledge.

I met john Malkovitch in 1989 whilst he was in Marrocco filming the Sheltering sky and he is 5'5" at most I am 5'7" in my bare feet which is not that tall and the guy was just above shoulder height to me. Although he did have espedrilles on, but I was struck by how tiny he actually was in real life...

I wasn't sure about steves listing on here, but I'm pretty sure he was listed at 5'8" in the general online listings around the time of tv's "the office" and the release of the film, "40 year old virgin", in the mid 2000s. I think the elevator boots were only for that one role, much like Ray Liotta in Narc, who hasn't seemed to wear lifts otherwise. But I watched Red the other night and it's clear as day Malkovich looked shorter than Willis, same thing at the promo appearances and premieres for the films.

My husband just meet him a few weeks ago in Seattle airport. My husband is 5'11" and said he was a couple inches shorter than him. We were checking to see if we could get an actual height on the internet, and found this site. My husband says he is 5'10" probably.

My workmate at IBM spotted him this year on San Sebastian's Zinemaldi (basque country) whilst signing autographs. He described him both as short an fat. My mate is on the 6'3" neighborhood. Editor Rob yeah I hadn't changed this and had seen red over a year ago, john did look a bit smaller than willis. Whether he is a 179 guy now or might still measure 5ft 11 (if he just has a bit worse posture) I'm unsure on.

He's a big boned old chap, and that makes him look shorter, stumpier. In fact, I thought he was about 5' 8" for a long time. In the film EtcApres (Afterwards) he makes French actor Romain Duris look very slightly built. The Frenchman is touching 5' 10", but it isn't the slight (1" or so) height difference, it's the heft of Malkovich that you notice. And I don't mean flab, he looked pretty trim.
He's a big boned old chap, and that makes him look shorter, stumpier. In fact, I thought he was about 5' 8" for a long time. In the film EtcApres (Afterwards) he makes French actor Romain Duris look very slightly built. The Frenchman is touching 5' 10", but it isn't the slight (1" or so) height difference, it's the heft of Malkovich that you notice. And I don't mean flab, he looked pretty trim.

If John is 6', then that would boost him into "Lennie territory". :-) John Steinbeck was 6'2", so he wouldn't have considered a 6' man "huge". Though there is NO specific description of Lennie OR George's height; Lennie is described as being a "very big & tall man".

He is 6ft max. Look at the pics of the Klimt premiere (getty images). Malkovich beside Veronica Ferres. She's 2 inches taller than John. Ferres says that she's 5'10.

A total surprise that John Malkovich should be 6'1". I have seen him with Gerard Depardieu, Jeremy Irons and many others. Mr.X has compared him with Sam Waterston and he is absolutely correct. A very happy day Mr. Malkovich would reach 6'. Mr.X is correct. He has never been taller than around 6'

In the movie the Killing Fields Sam Waterston's passport says Sam's 6 ft 1, and in that movie Sam looks about an inch taller than Malkovich.

The night that I was lucky enough to be introduced to Mr. Malkovich, I wore regular dress shoes, with a heel measured at about 0.75 to 1-inch. And, your calculations are entirely off. Read my comments again, carefully. More importantly, you were not there in person. So, why share comments about Mr. Malkovich's height, when you have no knowledge or " in-person " experience with him???

John Malkovich is 6'1. There is no way that he is anything less than that. Just watch Con Air. He is a fraction taller than Nic Cage And about and inch shorter than Nic Chinlund. There is a particular scene where he is standing opposite Chinlund, he looks an inch shorter. I definitely agree with the height listed above.
