frank2 , there is my friend that met sly 3 time and he say that sly is 5'6 / max 5'7" my friend is 5'10.5 tall and he say that sly was 4 inch shorter than him.

Yes, based on what I saw. But in all fairness, he could be 5'8" and was just not standing up as straight as he usually does when we see him wearing huge monster lifts. But no question, he's far from being the 5'10" he claims to be.
And with Arnold, he towered over me when I've stood right next to him. Even with Stallone's monster shoes, he was never as tall a Arnold. I think Arnold was 6'2" in his prime. Today? I don't know. I haven't seen him in years. Not since he went into politics with disastrous results. I wish he'd go back to acting.

5'8 barefoot for Sly makes sense because that puts him at 6' in his customs, add the military stance and he appears 6'1 and in my opinion that's the tallest he's ever looked in any credible photo. 5'8 is also consistent with the golf photos where he looked only a little bit taller than 5'8 Nicholson and Sly's ankles were a little high in those golf shoes which gave him the advantage over Jack (not too mention Sly's military stance). Finally, we can put an end to this 5'10 and 5'11 nonsense. Thank you Frank! Good to see someone who's actually met Sly!

First off thanks for the welcome. Rob emailed me today to let me know about Glenn. I had a good laugh! Sly is probably 5'8", but certainly no more than that. I'm 5'11" so when I saw him without shoes I had at least four inches on him. I could just about look over the top of his head. But with those cowboy boots on, he was near my height. I think seeing the big difference in height really threw me. His boots had two inch heels, maybe two and a half and the rest must have been made up with lifts inside.
As for Richard Burton, I met him and he was only an inch shorter than me. Now he might have been wearing lifts that day, but I don't seem to remember that he was wearing anything obvious. With truly short actors like Kirk Douglas, their lifts usually stood out like a sore thumb. Charles Bronson was about 5'7". I noticed with him that he must have suffered from one leg being shorter than the other since I saw a larger heel on one shoe.

height. Arnold's peak height is listed almost 4 inches more than

To be fair Brad, Jenny is 5' 9 1/4" in the morning. She's tall. That's why she beats Glenn by over 2" in that pic. Glenn is only 5' 6.69" in the afternoon. The 5' 7" he managed to get, was after lying down in a car. Rob should have measured Glenn in the morning as well.

I've noticed from the screenshots of the Expendables that Sly wears different shoes when he is filmed alone and when he is pictured with a costar ;)

I wonder if Stallone is a 5ft10-10.5 waking height and this 5f9 is his minimum height. Makes more sense than a 5f7. The big shoes and lifts are to up his height to more than just average. I may with differ with Rising over Stallones actual height but he presents his case well. He was demonstrating that Stallone CAN look tall should he chose to and that pics show that he can look way above his stated height here.

When they go face to face - that is not movie magic. No boxes.

But my whole point was that he can look 6'1" in elevators. This was directed mostly at the poster who said he couldn't look it. A camera advantage isn't clear to me so I'd imagine it'd be very slight, especially since they both look in proportion. Letterman at 6'1.5" barefoot would be atleast 6'2.5", maybe 6'2.75" in dress shoes. the world knows that you are sly's biggest height supporter and all and while even i will concede that there is a remote (keyword) possibility of him being a weak 5'10, let's not go completely overboard here and go to 5'11 territory now.
seems like you always go back to that infamous sandal clip with weathers from rocky III. well, as i said a few months ago, it's extremely tough to gauge sly's height from that clip due to:
1. sly's lumpy sandals
2. sly's puffed 80's hairstyle
3. weather's stance - u can't just assume that weathers is losing so and so much height from leaning. he could lose anywhere from 2-3 inches, which may not seem much but can play an important role when measuring up with sly. but as i said, it's all based an assumptions, which can't carry much weight in comparing heights.
furthermore, he's probably getting less height from his nikes than sly is from his sandals anyways. There is overwhelming evidence that show that sly can't touch 5'11 so let's keep the discussion within a more logical 5'8.5-5'10 range.

brad, if you say it's impossible for a 5-8.5 guy to look like sly did in slippers next to weathers then you might want to rethink your estimate. ;) movie magic? that makes no sense. if they wanted to make sly taller there then they wouldn't have shown his feet and they would have stood him on a box or put him in elevator shoes. you don't put a guy in slippers when it's not necessary when you want them to look taller.
are you suggesting that sly wore lifts in golf shoes when he had a broken foot next to james caan? once again sly was a bit taller than jenny in comparison to glenn and glenn admitted to being near his morning height in the sly photo while he was at his lowest(5-6.5, 5-6.75) with jenny.

I'd say sly is about 5'9.25-5'9.75(176-177cm), seems about right. Might even be a full 5'10(178cm). There is no way he's under 5'9(175cm).

But there are times when she does look pretty close to Sly's height. I believe Stone to be about 5'8", she is listed as this also. Anything higher would be her morning height(my opinion).

Didn't I see those yellow ones as a house in a Laurel & Hardy film? Those are sick. They had 3.5's jammed in those monsters. I bet those ropes were not regulation so Sly could appear taller. Good pics 'portland". Both sets of shoes shown in the pics could easily allow for a 3" lift, especially the boots in the 2nd pic. The heel alone looks to be 4-5cm alone plus an internal wedge of same or similar size boost.5'8.5" on the nose.

Boxing boots can easily be fitted with massive wedge. I've saw ski boots in the 70's with foam injection. Look at those things he was wearing with Ali at that awards ceremony in '77. The heel alone was huge. Burt Reynolds wore custom sneakers in the 70's in his films. He had a pair in "Hooper" that were comical.
Boxing boots can easily be fitted with massive wedge. I've saw ski boots in the 70's with foam injection. Look at those things he was wearing with Ali at that awards ceremony in '77. The heel alone was huge. Burt Reynolds wore custom sneakers in the 70's in his films. He had a pair in "Hooper" that were comical.

So it's clear enough that Sly stood 5'10.75" in the morning, 5'10.5" during midday and 5'10" in the evening. He has 2 inches on Glenn in one of his photo and Glenn's 5'7" at his very lowest, so I think that Sly could deserve 5'9.5"-5'10".

I always believed his true height to be between 5'8" and 5'8.5", although there are times when he can look considerably taller in the odd shots where he has no footwear, he can look quite short. I have read alot of articles stating that he is 5'7" although I think that is taking it to the extremes.

Sly was average height with huge heels and now with huge monster shoes. brad pitt is 5-10 and with lifts hes a tall guy. Sly has never been tall, not even with his special shoes.

Obviously you've never seen NYC italian men, that's the style, check out The Lords Of Flatbush....they still wear that outfit in '09. There is no middle ground for italian men, it is Versace or Boochagaloop.

In the 1st one Ray is obviously hunched, and Stallone is leaning but stretching as tall as he can. The 2nd pic has Sly closer to the camera. The 3rd is the same old story. I think all 3 (in total 4) Stallone/Leonard pics tell the same story. My certainty regarding Sugar Ray's height, convinces me that Sly is as I have been told by 2 friends that have met him around 1980, before his lift days, that he was between 5-8 and 5-9. Since he is 62 yrs. old now and not 32, it is also more than likely he has lost some height. On average one loses roughly 1mm every 10 yrs. past the age of 40.
I stand by my height estimation. Sly is most likely close to 5-8 today, give or take .5"

regarding sly's height claim, i don't agree that if he were 5-10+, he'd surely claim 6 ft because of his elevators. even some known lift wearers are surprisingly honest, you never know what goes on in someones head. we all agree that sly could at the very least pass for a legit 5-11 with footwear, but he never claimed it, so i don't think some of these guys care about the actual figure. i think they care about looking tall. burt reynolds could easily pass for being over 6 ft, but he admitted to being under 6 ft back in the 70's. brad pitt can also easily pass for 6 ft, but i believe he claims to be 5-11. both are height concious guys as well. i don't believe sly even wore lifts back in 1978 when he claimed 5-10.75. he didn't seem that height concious, he even wore converse throughout a lot of rocky and slouched in the movie at times.

Really stood out partly cos the rest of the German team was usually in the 6'2 range, and partly cos he was the best player in the World in the early 90s. Klinsman yes I remember him being quoted 5'11. I'm actually really shocked to see Matthaus and Klinsman in the same picture at a social setting given their infamous public feuding during USA 94. Either way Sly seems no taller than Matthaus in comparison, although from the pictures I'm not sure the ground would be even in some of them.

I agree that Sly is the shortest. Damon & Pitt may be of very similar height, with Clooney only a little taller.

One thing to consider, if Sly were his claimed height barefoot that would make him over 6ft, probably 6ft 1 in his munsters. Why would he not claim at least 6ft?
5ft 10.5 is the best he claims,which tells me it could be his "munstered" height and he's 5ft 8 barefoot. Personally I think he's around 5ft 9 barefoot and knows people would find 6ft hard to swallow.

Heck, even with normal shoes he would be just about 6 ft. Yet in his huge lifts he barely hits 6 ft, sometimes under, rarely a little over. Isn't that enough proof he's 5'9?

He has numerous pics of him with many stars including: Stallone, Pitt, Clooney & Damon. The problem ... we don't know how tall the owner is. My guess is 5-10.

miko, just ignore hulk hogan from that picture with mcmahon and sly, he's clearly in the backround. he does look well short of 6-1 with mctavish, probably 6-0 max there, if that, but i personally find it a stretch to put him as short as 6-0 with mcmahon. on the same night he looked 3.5 inches max shorter than hulk hogan who would be near or around 6-5 in shoes. it seems that all we've proven so far is that sly is the biggest height enigma there is. there are some nights when he seems 6-0 max in huge lifts and others where he seems 6-2 in them. for someone's height to vary that much i can understand where the limb lengthening thoeries come in. that's also why i believe he's a guy who shrinks as much as 1.25" in a day. it'd make sense considering his height is all over the place.
